Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC – News) today announced that a CSC-led consortium, ISIC21, has been selected on an exclusive basis by the German Defense Ministry to enter the due diligence phase for a German Army information technology (IT) outsourcing contract. CSC’s German subsidiary CSC Ploenzke, a German IT services provider, will lead the bid. The project, also known as “Herkules”, is one of the core projects of the privatisation and cost-cutting process the Bundeswehr, Germany’s armed forces, has been undergoing since 1999.
The Bundeswehr Herkules project, intended to upgrade the German Army’s IT and communications systems, has an estimated value of $6.1bn (€6.5bn) over 10 years.Contract award will be subject to successful completion of the due diligence phase and subsequent contract negotiations.
The CSC-led ISIC21 consortium, which was selected from a field of seven bidders, was created specifically to standardize and integrate IT solutions for the Bundeswehr while realizing significant cost savings.
In addition to CSC, the ISIC21 consortium includes the European aerospace company EADS and the telecommunications firm MobilCom AG. Deutsche Bank serves as financial advisor to the consortium.
