Northrop Grumman Corp., San Diego, Calif., is being awarded a $307,000,000 fixed-price-incentive-firm contract modification to provide for low rate initial production Lot 2 as follows: for the Air Force, four Global Hawk air vehicles, three integrated sensor suites, two electro-optical infrared sensors, one launch recovery element and one mission control element; for the Navy, two Global Hawk air vehicles, two integrated sensor suites, one mission control element and two launch recovery elements. At this time, $205,330,000 of the funds has been obligated. Further funds will be obligated as individual delivery orders are issued. This work will be complete by August 2005; solicitation began September 2002. ThalesRaytheonSystems, LLC has received a $38m contract modification award, which increases the quantity of AN/TPQ-37(V)3 Weapon Locating Radars sold to India in a Foreign Military Sale contract. It also includes training, technical support and spare parts through the first quarter of 2008. This contract modification brings the overall contract value to $142.4m.
24 Jan 03. United Defense Industries, Inc. (NYSE:UDI – News) was selected by DARPA and the Army to partner with General Dynamics Land Systems to design the Army’s next generation of manned ground vehicles. The FCS LSI (Boeing/SAIC) have formed the manned ground vehicle design team allowing the two companies with the most experience in ground combat vehicles to immediately begin design work on the manned ground vehicles in order to support the aggressive timeline for FCS. The two companies will now focus on assessing the requirements of the
eight manned ground vehicle variants, developing preliminary designs for each vehicle, and identifying the components and subsystems that will be common to all.
5 Feb 03. Westland Helicopters Limited, has been awarded a £20m manufacture and support contract by the UK Ministry of Defence to deliver a new eye-safe Dual Laser Unit (DLU) for the Apache AH Mk1. The laser is designed as an enhancement to the existing Apache Collective Training System (CTS), the contract for which was confirmed in July 2000. This award represents another chapter in Westland’s commitment towards delivering a coherent training solution for Apache AH Mk1, as part of its strategy to provide a total systems capability for the UK Armed Forces.
27 Jan 03. ThalesRaytheonSystems LLC, has been awarded a $45m firm-fixed price contract to upgrade TPQ-36A Air Surveillance Radars for the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF). The RNoAF’s TPQ-36A is the predecessor system to the AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel Air Defense Radar, a highly mobile ground-based air defense unit currently fielded within the US Army and four other nations.

Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE:NOC – News) Systems Development and Technology (SD&T) Division has been awarded a contract by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to design, build and conduct a proof-of-concept airborne demonstration of a synthetic aperture ladar sensor that generates high-resolution two- and three-dimensional imagery.
4 Feb 03. General Dynamics Decision Systems, has been awarded a $59.9m cost-plus-fixed-fee contract to enhance the current version of the U.S. Army’s Land Warrior system. The system, including key soldier elements, consists of personal electronics, communications, global navigation and other integrated equipment. Land Warrior also enhances interoperability with the battlefield command and communications systems found on Stryker Brigade Combat Team vehicles and on the Army’s Future Combat System (FCS), which is key to the Army’s transformation. The total value of the Land Warrior program with all
options exercised has an estimated potential value of $791 million.
