07 Sep 18. DoD/DSCA Notifies Congress of Possible FMS to The Netherlands. The U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified the Congress that The Netherlands has requested Recapitalization (RECAP) of four (4) Netherlands Patriot Fire Units. RECAP includes Radar Sets (RS), Radar Digital Processors (RDP), Engagement Control Stations (ECS), Information and Coordination Central (ICC), Modem Man Stations (MMS), Launching Stations, and Post Deployment Build (PDB)-8 upgrades along with parts, tools, technical and engineering assistance, support services, testing, and other related elements of logistics and program support, which will produce fire units at the Configuration 3+ capability. The total estimated program cost is $105m. U.S. Government personnel will conduct the RECAP at Letterkenny Army Depot. The purchaser typically requests offsets. 05 Sep 18. Chemring announced that its US based subsidiary, Chemring Sensors and Electronic Systems (CSES), has been notified that it has been down selected as one of the suppliers on the first stream of the Next Generation Chemical Detector (NGCD1). NGCD1, now known as the Aerosol & Vapour Chemical Agent Detector (AVCAD), is the long-term Program of Record for the US Department of Defense to detect traditional and advanced threat vapours, and liquid and solid aerosols. The resultant contract award, which is expected to be received in the coming months, is expected to take the form of an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract and will be for the Engineering and Manufacturing Development of the program, together with options for varying quantities of hardware under Low Rate Initial Production and Full Rate Production phases of the program.

05 Sep 18. Liteye Gets $18m USAF Contract for Counter UAS systems. Liteye Systems has received an $18m follow on contract for delivery of numerous containerized anti-unmanned aircraft systems, or C-AUDS for short, from the US Air Force. These systems will all deliver in the next 120 days. This is the 5th contract for C-UAS systems and services Liteye has received since the fall of 2016. The US version of the AUDS system first deployed with the US Army in late 2016 and has fast become the go to defense system in combat. With many systems already in the field providing real world experience, against very real threats, Liteye is developing more advanced capabilities that can be layered into their solutions. 04 Sep 18. Raytheon has awarded additional purchase orders to US-based aerospace and defence company CPI Aerostructures for the next-generation jammer mid-band (NGJ-MB) external jamming pod capability. The $5m contracts are related to the engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) phase of the AN/ALQ-249 NGJ-MB programme. In July 2016, Raytheon awarded CPI Aerostructures a $4m contract for the development of pod structural housings.Another $2.7m contract was awarded in September 2016 for the production of air management system (AMS) door and duct assemblies for installation within the pod housing. The new additional orders, which have taken the total value for the EMD phase to more than $19m, involve work related to the earlier contracts, including additional systems integration efforts that are slated to be carried out during the company’s build-up of the pod assembly. 06 Sep 18. Rolls-Royce to Power Boeing MQ-25 Aircraft for US Navy. Rolls-Royce engines have been selected by Boeing to power the US Navy’s new MQ-25 Stingray aircraft, which will provide unmanned, carrier-based air-to-air refuelling. The US Navy has awarded the MQ-25A engineering and manufacturing contract to Boeing to provide four aircraft. The MQ-25 is designed to provide the US Navy with a much-needed refuelling capability and extend the range of combat aircraft from carriers. Each MQ-25 aircraft will be powered by a single Rolls-Royce AE 3007N engine, manufactured in Indianapolis, US. The AE 3007N, the latest variant of the Rolls-Royce AE family of engines, will provide more than 10,000 lbs of thrust and additional electrical power to the aircraft. 07 Sep 18. The United States Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has officially awarded global communications company, Viasat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT), an eight-year, firm-fixed price contract to provide U.S. Government Senior Leader and VIP aircraft with in-flight broadband and connectivity services. The base year award value is $55.6m. The period of performance for the base year award is Sept. 1, 2018, through Aug. 31, 2019. The base year and seven 12-month option periods have a total cumulative value of $559.8m.

31 Aug 18. EpiSci to develop emulated LTE analysis environment for US Army SBIR. The US Army has awarded a new contract to InterDigital partner EpiSys Science (EpiSci) for the development of an emulated long-term evolution (LTE) analysis environment. Awarded under the US Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programme, the contract will involve the designing of a high-fidelity LTE/5G protocol modelling module for the Extended Mobile Ad hoc Network Emulator (EMANE) platform. The LTE/5G module is capable of deploying a full LTE architecture on self-contained commodity personal computer hardware, with assistance from mobile technology company InterDigital’s LTE expert team. Australian company Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has been chosen as the supplier of remote weapon stations for the Australian Army’s new Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles (CRV) as part of the $5.5bn LAND 400 Phase 2 program. Minister for Defence Christopher Pyne announced the deal at the EOS stand at Land Forces 2018 in Adelaide, and said the contract would increase Australian industry involvement in the project. The company’s RWS solutions ensure full weapon readiness while the crew operate the system protected within the vehicle. 05 Sep 18. Rheinmetall sells Australia over a thousand more trucks – order worth €430m. Duesseldorf/Adelaide. Rheinmetall has won another major order in Australia. The Duesseldorf, Germany-based tech enterprise has been selected to supply the Australian Defence Force with more than a thousand additional military trucks and modules. Just signed, the contract is worth €430m. The Commonwealth of Australia has thus acted on a procurement decision already announced in July 2018. Delivery is scheduled to commence in 2019 and be complete in 2024. The latest purchase forms part of Australia’s Land 121 Phase 5B project. Rheinmetall has already proved its mettle in earlier phase of the project, 3B, under which it is currently supplying Australia with 2,500 medium- and heavyweight military trucks worth a total of €1.2bn. The trucks ship out from the Group’s plant in Brisbane, where final integration and acceptance testing takes place before delivery to the Commonwealth.
05 Sep 18. Saab has received an order for deliveries of the new Carl-Gustaf® M4 multi-role weapon system to the Australian Army. This is Saab´s sixth customer for the Carl-Gustaf M4 system since its launch in late 2014. Deliveries will take place during 2020. The new version retains all the effectiveness and versatility of the proven Carl-Gustaf system while introducing a range of major enhancements. These include a lighter weight design (weighing less than 7 kg), a round counter, improved safety and intelligent features, such as compatibility with future intelligent sighting systems and programmable ammunition, which collectively offer significant operational improvements for the soldier. The weapon is fully backward compatible with all ammunition types.

06 Sep 18. Navratna Defence company Bharat Electronics (BEL) has secured a Rs92bn ($1.28bn) order to deliver seven long-range surface-to-air missile (LRSAM) systems for use by the Indian Navy. The state-owned aerospace and defence company has received the contract awards from two India-based shipbuilding companies, Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE). The latest award brings the total of BEL’s orders to more than Rs500bn ($6.97bn) for the first time since its inception. Once delivered, the surface-to-air missiles, also known as Barak 8, will be installed on board seven Indian Navy Project 17A frigates that are contracted to be built by the two shipbuilding companies. 06 Sep 18. Navantia Signs a Contract with Saudi Arabia for the Construction of 5 Corvettes. On 12th. July, the Government of Saudi Arabia has signed the contract for the construction of five corvettes, an operation that reaches an amount of 1.8bn Euros, the biggest one in the history of the public Spanish shipyards with a foreign client. This contract strengthens the immediate future of Navantia and will benefit all the shipyards of the company. The signing of this contract with Arabia is going to be of benefit to the whole Navantia workers, to the local industry with which he collaborates and, especially, to the whole Bay of Cadiz, which explains that it should have received supports from all the areas of the Administration. Saab Australia has selected Safran Electronics & Defense Australasia to provide the electro optic sensor as part of the situational awareness system for the 12 Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) SEA1180 Project. This Electro Optic Sensor is the Vigy Engage system in its latest version. Developed and produced by Safran Electronics & Defense, Vigy Engage is a light, panoramic, multi-sensor shipboard electro optic system. It includes a cooled infrared imager, video channels and a laser rangefinder. (CSS), a joint venture between Cyient Ltd. and BlueBird Aero Systems, Israel, has announced that it has received its first supply order from a unit of the Indian Army for SpyLite mini UAV systems for high altitude aerial surveillance. CSS offered, and successfully demonstrated, its flagship mini UAV system, SpyLite, which was the only one that met end-user requirements to conduct real-time surveillance and target acquisition at very high altitude and in extreme weather conditions. The SpyLite was also the only UAV system to complete and pass the trial. SpyLite is an advanced, combat-proven, electric, mini unmanned aerial system.
