EUROPE

LAND

12 Oct 17. Raytheon UK has been selected by General Dynamics Land Systems-UK to provide isolated Power Switch Nodes, or iPSNs, for the British Army’s AJAX armoured fighting vehicles. Based on existing, proven Raytheon power switching and direct current to direct current converter capabilities, an iPSN delivers power and protects non Def-Stan 61-5-compliant equipment. It’s augmented with the company’s proprietary solid-state smart fusing technology. Similar to traditional power switch nodes, the new variants will switch in and out electrical loads and include a battle override feature.

09 Oct 17. Saab has been sub-contracted by Lockheed Martin UK to assemble 16 of the UK’s new AJAX virtual Crew Turret Trainers. The Crew Turret Trainer is a virtual simulator designed to train the vehicle crew in the use of the turret (armaments, radios, sights etc). This opportunity represents Saab’s first significant virtual simulation contract in the UK, but not its first involvement with the AJAX programme, as Saab is also on contract to design and deliver the live simulators for both the AJAX and Warrior CSP Armoured Vehicle platforms.

11 Oct 17. Saab has signed a contract with NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) in Luxembourg for upgrading three SINDRE I air surveillance radars in Norway. Deliveries will take place between 2017 and 2020, with work undertaken by Saab Technologies Norway, in Halden, Norway and Saab Defense and Security USA, in Syracuse, New York, USA. Saab’s upgrade will include replacing obsolete hardware as well as upgrading software. Saab Technologies Norway is a supplier of ground based radar systems with domestic and international customers. Saab Defense and Security USA supplies ground and naval radar systems, subsystems and upgrades to domestic and international customers.

SEA

10 Oct 17. Thales has secured a seven year contract to provide through-life support for communications systems of the Royal Navy’s fleet.
The £100m contract provides an intelligent, unified approach to supporting the Thales communications systems, including those fitted to the Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carriers coming into service.
The seven year contract provides Thales with the responsibility to maintain, support and manages through-life the Royal Navy’s communications systems across the majority of the Fleet’s platforms, from the state-of-the-art systems aboard the new QEC aircraft carriers and the Type 45 Destroyers through to older systems such as those on Landing Platform Dock and many other platforms across the Fleet. The systems fitted to the QEC aircraft carriers, and supported under this contract, enable the ship’s company to talk to each other within the vessel, its aircraft, the rest of the Navy and associated taskgroups, allies, civilian vessels and air traffic securely anywhere in the world.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) received $337m in orders to supply Apache Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M TADS/PNVS) systems and services to the United States, United Kingdom and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The awards are part of an initial task order under a new indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) contract signed with the U.S. Army. The ID/IQ, with at least $2bn in potential orders and a five-year period of performance, serves as the contracting vehicle to provide M TADS/PNVS systems and services to U.S. and international customers.
