05 Jul 17. Elbit Systems Ltd. (NASDAQ:ESLT and TASE: ESLT) (“Elbit Systems”) announced today that one of its subsidiaries in Europe was awarded a contract from a European country, for the supply of thousands of advanced Electro-Optic (“EO”) systems for individual infantry soldiers, in a total amount of an approximately $35m. The contract will be performed over a two-year period.
06 Jul 17. Intracom Defense Electronics has signed a $1.36m contract with Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles to supply WiSPR intercommunications systems for the Boxer infantry fighting vehicle, the company announced on 3 July. WiSPR system deliveries are expected to be completed in 2018. Boxer is an advanced multi-role armoured vehicle, designed for increased crew protection, modularity and mobility. The WiSPR systems will be fitted to the vehicles for the international market.
WiSPR is a digital software-defined intercommunication system, providing communications for military vehicles under extreme conditions, with enhanced hearing safety. With a versatile system architecture it is adaptable to a variety of operational requirements. (Source: Shephard)
04 Jul 17. The Dutch DMO (Defence Materiel Organisation), responsible for the bilateral Fennek program, has ordered the modification of 30 KMW Fennek reconnaissance vehicles to JFST (Joint Fire Support Team) status for the German Army on behalf of German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment (BAAINBw). The contract includes retrofitting to the latest configuration state in the versions Forward Artillery Observer and Forward Air Controller, as well as replacing obsolete component assemblies and the corresponding software adjustments. The total order value amounts to approx. EUR 88m. The Fennek scout cars will be retrofitted to the Fennek JFST 1A3+ variant between 2018 and 2022 and then transferred back to the German Armed Forces.
06 Jul 17. On behalf of the German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR) has concluded a contract with ARTEC GmbH for the modernisation of 246 Boxer vehicles of various types for the Bundeswehr. The total value of the contract is around €94m. The vehicles will be modernised between 2018 and 2023 by the parent companies of the ARTEC joint venture. Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) will carry out the modernisation work on 208 of the total 246 Boxer vehicles. This will include a new satellite-based communication system, improved command and control equipment, and an additional operator station for the RCVS (remote controlled weapon station) will be installed. In addition, the vehicles will receive a new stowage concept based on operational experience and will be prepared for the integration of a driver vision system.

As part of a joint investment programme, UK MOD and QinetiQ have agreed to invest £16.8m in two new BAE Systems tracking radars, to be installed on St Kilda, and upgrade two existing radars at MOD Hebrides. As part of QinetiQ’s strategy to modernise UK test and evaluation, the tracking radars will provide data and safety monitoring at the range for experimentation, evaluation, demonstration and rehearsal of military capability. The new radars are part of the £95m Air Range Modernisation programme agreed in December 2016 with the UK MOD. The modernisation of MOD Aberporth and MOD Hebrides will help reduce the overall operating costs of the ranges ensuring they remain competitive and have the capabilities required to support UK defence, defence exports and attract international customers, building on the success of the At Sea Demonstration 2015 and Unmanned Warrior 2016.
