10 Dec 16. Rheinmetall wins €135m Bundeswehr order for survivability upgrades of Fuchs/Fox armoured transport vehicles. The Düsseldorf-based tech enterprise Rheinmetall AG has won a major follow-on order from the German Bundeswehr. Under the contract, Rheinmetall will modernize ninety of the Bundeswehr’s long-serving Fuchs/Fox armoured transport vehicles, significantly enhancing their overall performance level. The order is worth around €135m (including value added tax). Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) in Koblenz awarded Rheinmetall the contract following a decision by the budget committee of the German Parliament to make the necessary funds available. Delivery of the vehicles is slated to start in 2017 and end in 2020. In recent years Rheinmetall has already upgraded 177 Bundeswehr Fuchs/Fox vehicles to the latest 1A8 standard. Compared with previous versions, the 1A8 offers substantially greater resistance to landmines and improvised explosive devices, coupled with improved protection against ballistic threats.

DRS Technologies, a Leonardo company, announced today that it has received a five-year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract from the U.S. Army to produce a next-generation hand-held precision laser targeting system, enabling forward observers to call for precision-guided munitions onto targets. The firm-fixed-price contract is worth up to $339.3m. The Joint Effects Targeting System (JETS) is designed for users to engage targets with precision munitions and provide digital connectivity to requesting call-for-fire. JETS improves upon and adds enhanced technologies for the U.S. military, significantly reducing weight and improving precision accuracy making the system a battlefield multiplier.

BAE Systems Electronics, Intelligence & Support/Electronic Solutions, Nashua, New Hampshire, is being awarded $19,667,739 for modification P00004 to a previously awarded firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract (N00019-16-C-0020) for the procurement of 253 full-rate production Lot VII integrated defensive electronic countermeasures AN/ALE-55 fiber optic towed decoys for the F/A-18E/F aircraft, including logistics and engineering technical support. Work will be performed at Nashua, New Hampshire (30 percent); Chelmsford Essex, United Kingdom (22 percent); Rochester, New York (9 percent); Fremont, California (6 percent); San Diego, California (5 percent); Landenburg, Pennsylvania (2 percent); Toledo, Ohio (1 percent); and various other locations in the continental U.S. (25 percent). Work is expected to be completed December 2018. Fiscal 2017 procurement ammunition (Navy and Marine Corps) funds in the amount of $19,667,739 will be obligated at time of award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.
09 Dec 16. Textron has been selected by Lockheed Martin to provide a simulation system for the F-35’s electronic warfare equipment. Textron will provide its Advanced Architecture Phase Amplitude and Time Simulator (A2PATS) for the F-35 Norwegian, Italian Reprogramming Lab (NIRL) located at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. 14 Dec 16. DoD/DSCA Notifies Congress of Proposed FMS to Kuwait for Recapitalization of 218 M1A2 Tanks and Related Equipment

The U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified the Congress that the Government of Kuwait has requested a possible sale in support of its recapitalization of 218 M1A2 tanks, to include two hundred and forty (240) .50 Cal M2A1 machine guns; four hundred and eighty (480) 7.62mm M240 machine guns; two hundred and forty (240) AN/VRC-92E SINCGARS radios; and one thousand and eight five (1,085) AN/PVS-7B Night Vision Goggles.
