25 Aug 16. Madrid approves aircraft support contracts. The Spanish government has approved payments totalling EUR97m (USD109.4m) to cover upgrades and general maintenance on various types of auxiliary aircraft and helicopters operated by the Spanish Air Force. Of this, EUR33m will be assigned up to 2020 for the Airbus A310 aircraft used by 45 Group, which are designated as troop transports for international missions and non-combatant evacuation operations (NEOs). Other tasks allotted to the group include transporting government officials and medical evacuations. A second contract, budgeted at EUR35m and also running for four years, will be for work on the air force’s Dassault Falcon and Cessna Citation V aircraft. (Source: IHS Jane’s)

22 Aug 16. Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a contract from OHB System AG to supply the space inertial reference system for Germany’s SARah satellite-based radar reconnaissance system.
Northrop Grumman will supply its Scalable Space Inertial Reference Unit-L (Scalable SIRU™-L) for sensor pointing/stabilization and attitude control on the SARah satellite-based radar reconnaissance system. This contract marks the first international application of the new Scalable SIRU™-L configuration. Derived from the proven Scalable SIRU™, the Scalable SIRU™-L offers the same hardware and associated reliability of the standard model. The Scalable SIRU™-L is a highly affordable option due to its innovative calibration process that leads to a shorter delivery schedule and lower cost.

Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB) today announced that its subsidiaries TeraLogics, DTECH Labs (DTECH) and GATR Technologies (GATR), which operate within the Cubic Mission Solutions (CMS) business division, received initial purchase orders to provide the Unified Combatant Commands (UCC) with Tactical Two-way Sensor Data Transport (T2SDT) baseband kits. Cubic’s integrated T2SDT solution will upgrade existing Digital Video Broadcasting-Return Channel via Satellite (DVB-RCS) terminal capabilities. T2SDT terminals are high-data rate, ruggedized Full Motion Video (FMV) terminals that support the backhaul, storage, reception, transrating/transcoding and overall management of real-time FMV. T2SDT terminals provide a small footprint, easy-to-deploy solution that supports multiple high-definition videos; saves satellite bandwidth for each video by using latest video encoding standards; significantly reduces size, weight and power; and allows each terminal to manage and quickly understand the ingested real-time video. Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training, Manassas, Virginia, is being awarded a $126,292,178 cost-plus-incentive-fee modification to a previously awarded contract (N00024-09-C-6247) to exercise an option for engineering services and support of the Integrated Submarine Imaging Systems (ISIS) program. Services will include design, development, testing, reverse engineering, technology insertion/refreshment, engineering services, field engineering services, and system support. The ISIS provides mission critical, all-weather, visual and electronic search, digital image management, indication, warning, and platform architecture interface capabilities for SSN 688 (Los Angeles class); SSN 21 (Seawolf class); SSGN (Ohio class); SSBN (Ohio class); and SSN 774 (Virginia class) submarines, with potential for other submarines. ISIS rolls-up existing components and near term capabilities, and provides a robust architecture for efficiently inserting future capabilities as they become available for the Technical Insertion, Advanced Processing Builds, Submarine Warfare Federated System process.
