08 Aug 16. Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) for deliveries of Carl-Gustaf ammunition to the Swedish Army. The order value amounts to approximately SEK122m and final delivery will take place during 2017. Since 1948, the Carl-Gustaf multi-purpose weapon system has been supporting dismounted infantry around the world in dealing with a full range of battlefield challenges, and for decades, the system has been in service within the Swedish Army.
10 Aug 16. Saab Receives Order For Vehicle Electronics For Leopard 2 Tank. Saab has received an order from the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann Gmbh regarding development of new vehicle electronics for the Leopard 2 tank. The order value is approximately SEK130m. Deliveries will be made during the period 2018–2022. Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH is a primary supplier of the Leopard 2 tank to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and the Swedish Army, where the tank is designated as Stridsvagn 122. The order encompasses design and development of vehicle electronics, delivery of vehicle electronics units and cables, as well as training and documentation. The order also enables the tank to be integrated with the Swedish Battalion Combat Management System.

11 Aug 16. U.S. approves sale of bombs to NATO under pilot project. The U.S. State Department has approved the potential sale of precision guided munitions and equipment worth $231m to NATO’s support and procurement agency, under a pilot program where the organization acts as a lead buyer for member countries, the Pentagon said on Thursday.
The U.S. government last year announced a two-year project aimed at making it easier for NATO and member countries to share costs and buy weapons as a group as they struggle to stretch scarce defense budgets. The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, which implements foreign arms sales, said the weapons would be transferred to eight countries including Spain, Portugal and Denmark. (Source: Reuters)

Raytheon Co., Tucson, Arizona, is being awarded a $287,958,605 firm-fixed-price modification under previously awarded contract N00024-15-C-5406 to exercise options for MK 15 Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) upgrades and conversions, system overhauls, and associated hardware. CIWS is a fast-reaction terminal defense against low- and high-flying, high-speed maneuvering anti-ship missile threats that have penetrated all other defenses. The CIWS is an integral element of the Fleet Defense In-Depth concept and the Ship Self-Defense Program. Operating either autonomously or integrated with a combat system, it is an automatic terminal defense weapon system designed to detect, track, engage, and destroy anti-ship missile threats penetrating outer defense envelopes. CIWS consists of 2 variants: Phalanx, which utilizes a six-barrel Gatlin gun; and SeaRAM, which replaces the gun with an 11-round Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) guide. Phalanx CIWS is currently installed on Navy and Coast Guard ships, and is also in use in foreign navies. This contract combines purchases for the Navy (36.75 percent); and for the governments of Turkey (44.09 percent), and Australia (19.16 percent), under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.
