MEL Aviation – the Suffolk-based engineering solution provider, has been awarded a new contract from the Ministry of Defence, Air Support, Air Commodities Project Team based at MoD-Bristol UK. It follows the award of a contract to provide in-service support for internal communications, to the Royal Navy. The contract win, a result of competitive tender, will see MEL Aviation provide service and repair to Armament Ground Support Equipment (AGSE). The contract will include the provision of design organisation support, spares, repairs, Post Design Services (PDS) and testing and certification. Equipment in scope will include Beam Lifting Apparatus, Universal Hoists and High Lift Palletisers which will ensure that maintenance personnel will have the right tools available at the right time and in the right place to maintain aircraft anywhere in the world.

BAE Systems has received a $245m (£183m) contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide the gun system, known as the Maritime Indirect Fires System (MIFS), for the Type 26 Global Combat Ship. This award follows the MOD’s announcement of BAE Systems as the preferred bidder last year after a competitive process. Under the contract, the Company will manufacture three MIFS Integrated Gunnery Systems (IGS) and one trainer system for the UK Royal Navy. The MIFS IGS includes the 5-inch, 62-caliber Mk 45 Mod 4 Naval Gun System, along with an automated ammunition handling system, gun fire control system, and qualified ammunition. The contract includes an option for five additional systems for the remainder of the UK Royal Navy’s Type 26 fleet.

The Netherlands Ministry of Defence has today notified Parliament of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Luxembourg to proceed with the acquisition of a pooled fleet of Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (A330 MRTT) aircraft, and the signing of a contract paving the way for the delivery of two aircraft with options for up to six more when, as expected, other nations join the grouping. The contract also covers two years of initial support.

Fareham-based Barnbrook Systems Ltd is supplying its cutting-edge fuel switch to international aerospace, defence and security giant Leonardo-Finmeccanica for its class-leading AgustaWestland AW101 helicopter. The intelligent sensing technology monitors air pressure in fuel systems to minimise discharges through air vents – maximising efficiency, enhancing safety, delivering cost savings and heightening aircraft performance.
29 Jul 16. Cohort PLC subsidiary Marlborough Communications Ltd has won a contract for airborne communications support with the UK Ministry of Defence. Marlborough Communications, a provider of communications and surveillance technology, will provide support for specialist airborne communications equipment and could cover additional technology development. The contract will last from two to six years with a minimum value of GBP900,000, depending on the options chosen by the Ministry of Defence, and a maximum value of GBP7.7m. Saab has received an ammunition order from the US Department of Defense (DoD) for the Carl-Gustaf man-portable weapon system, known in the US as M3 MAAWS (Multi-role, Anti-armor Anti-personnel Weapon System). The order value is USD 5.4m (MSEK 46). The order comes under the terms of Saab’s framework contract announced with DoD in August 2014 for the 84-mm recoilless rifle system.
