20 Aug 15. UK MoD awards Falcon communication system contract to BAE. The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded a contract to BAE Systems to support and train military personnel in using the Falcon secure communications system. Under the £6.4m contract, the company will work with Babcock to provide the training infrastructure, management, support, trainers, and training development staff for continued training development and delivery of the Falcon system for the next four and a half years.
Featuring options to expand and extend through this period, the contract follows the successful completion of an initial conversion training programme by the British Army and the Royal Air Force (RAF) personnel.
Led by a team based at BAE’s site in Christchurch, UK, the team will continue to operate out of two established training facilities at Blandford, Dorset and RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire. (Source: army-technology.com)

19 Aug 15. Kongsberg secures orders to deliver its upgraded HOSS. Kongsberg Maritime has received multiple contracts to deliver its upgraded helicopter observation surveillance system (HOSS). Kongsberg’s solution is designed to provide real time video that monitors helicopter deck operations in extreme low-light conditions aboard Naval Surface Ships. The system is also capable of meeting US MIL standards.
Initially developed three decades ago, the first produced units are still in service with naval forces, the company stated. Kongsberg Maritime completed the system upgrade earlier this year and the delivery of the first unit is expected to be in the third quarter of the year.
In July, the Swedish Navy selected Kongsberg Maritime sonar systems to install on its Tapper-class fast patrol boats. The delivery under this order includes SA9510S mine avoidance and navigation sonar, as well as its EM 2040 Dual RX multibeam echo sounder.

AeroVironment, Inc. has received a contract from the United States Army totaling $3.4 m for RQ-11B Raven® unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to supply the Spanish Ministry of Defense via the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. It is designed for rapid deployment and high mobility for military applications requiring low-altitude intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. 18 Aug 15. U.S. Special Operations Command has awarded the SOCOM-Wide Mission Support (SWMS) contract to Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN). The multiple award is an indefinite delivery-indefinite quantity vehicle with a $900m ceiling. Under this Group A contract, Raytheon Blackbird Technologies will provide professional, program management and technical services to special operations forces (SOF) around the world. The Group A SWMS contract vehicle is designed for large companies to work as prime contractors. It has a five-year ordering period.

19 Aug 15. Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) has been awarded two five-year multi-award IDIQ contracts with a combined ceiling value of $70m to support the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center’s littoral, expeditionary and maritime mine defense programs. The contracts were awarded during the fourth quarter of Harris’ fiscal 2015. Harris will compete for delivery orders to provide hardware, materials and supplies that support critical fleet readiness and the expansion of science and technology programs advancing the state of maritime mine defense capabilities.
