23 Jul 15. General Dynamics UK has been awarded a £390m contract by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to provide in-service support for the SCOUT Specialist Vehicle (SV) fleet until 2024. In addition, the company is opening a new Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) Assembly, Integration and Testing (AIT) facility in South Wales. The contract is an extension of the in-service support that General Dynamics UK was contracted to provide for the SCOUT SV fleet until 2020, and it includes the provision of spares and repairs for all 589 platforms. The extended in-service support contract offers a cost-effective support solution that builds upon the SCOUT SV manufacturing phase, taking advantage of the production pricing of parts. With this facility investment, General Dynamics UK will undertake the assembly, integration and testing of 489 SCOUT Specialist Vehicle (SV) platforms. A further 100 platforms will undergo assembly, integration and testing at General Dynamics European Land Systems’ facility in Seville, Spain. The vehicles are on schedule to be delivered to the British Army from 2017 through 2024.

22 Jul 15. Millions of military equipment parts used by the UK Armed Forces will continue to be managed by Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT)’s logistics technology after the Ministry of Defence awarded a new £18m contract. The new contract extends the MOD’s use of Lockheed Martin’s Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions (JAMES) for a further six years. JAMES enables users across the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force to quickly identify the status, availability, condition, ownership, location and quantity of equipment, big or small. It can even be used to track how many miles a vehicle has been driven or how many shots a weapon has fired. Users can access information on items from screws and bolts through to weapons and vehicles. That means there can be real-time exchanges of reliable, up-to-the-minute information that support quick and quality decision-making, improving operational effectiveness. Lockheed Martin’s JAMES solution was first selected by the MOD in 2004 and since then, the system’s software has been upgraded to manage an increasingly complex portfolio. It now handles over 10 million transactions every month carried out by over 27,000 users.

21 Jul 15. ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq: VSAT) has been awarded a £3.8m contract by General Dynamics UK to equip 589 SCOUT Specialist Vehicles (SV) with an on-board encrypted data storage system. ViaSat’s bespoke on-board encrypted data storage system is based on its CAPS-accredited data encryption: the only hardware-based encryption technology that is certified to protect top-secret data at rest by CESG, the accreditation arm of the UK government.
