07 May 15. Thales has been awarded contract for its new TopShield-400® Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna system (CRPA) for the future French Tanker. Thales will provide Airbus Defence & Space with its new GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna system TopShield-400 ® to equip the 12 MRTTs (multi-role transport tanker) ordered by the French Procurement Agency (DGA). TopShield-400 ® is a multi-application anti-jamming solution for aircrafts, including helicopters that can be operated with all GNSS receivers. Its miniature antenna arrays and low volume electronics ensure easy integration onto all platforms while providing the highest level of immunity to jamming.

06 May 15. Harris has received a contract for follow-on production contract for its portion of production the KOR-24A Small Tactical Terminal (STT). Developed in collaboration with ViaSat, the STT is a two-channel radio designed to provide real-time situational awareness, location data, and command and control to the soldiers at the tactical edge of the battlefield. The additional $10m contract brings the overall contract value for Harris to more than $25m since 2010. The terminal has been designed to meet the needs of users who have size, weight, and power constraints, but need the information available on Link 16 networks and tactical very high-frequency / ultra-high-frequency (VHF/UHF) radios, such as the Soldier Radio Waveform and the Harris Adaptive Networking Wideband Waveform. Ruggedised to meet demanding environmental requirements, STT provides two simultaneous radio channels in a smaller chassis than previous terminals, making Link 16 communications available to space-constrained, mobile-ground and light-aircraft platforms, unmanned aerial vehicles, and small boats. Designed for use with multiple computers in a range of applications, the NSA-certified terminal can be used to bridge the gap in users’ awareness between the air picture provided by Tactical Digital Information Link J / Link 16 and the ground picture provided by other VHF/UHF data link formats. The STT is currently available to select nations with the approval from the US Government. (Source: army-technology.com)
07 May 15. Lincad, a leader in the design and manufacture of specialist batteries, chargers and power management systems, has been awarded the contract to design the battery for a new hand-held radio application being developed by Thales. It was as recently as November 2014 that Lincad was approached to undertake this time-critical project, which required the rapid generation of design and test data, and regular development gateways to minimise project risk. Lincad’s flexible working methods enabled the company to commence the preliminary project tasks immediately. As well as undertaking the necessary cell approval, electronic design and regulatory work involved in any new battery development, Lincad has partnered with a third party mechanical design house, associated with the radio project from inception, to act in an advisory role on the physic
