Serco has been awarded a further 12 month extension to its existing Contemporary Operating Environment Force (COEFOR) contract with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide training and support to the British Army prior to deployment on operations around the world. The new extension will start in December 2014 and is valued at £8m.
The original two-year contract, started in April 2012 and this option for a fourth year, awarded by the British Army’s Headquarters, will see Serco continue to deliver the service to the British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force until December 2015. Under the COEFOR contract, Serco delivers critical pre-deployment training to prepare UK military forces for worldwide deployed operations. All troops deployed to Afghanistan over the past two years have benefitted from this world-class realistic training. The support includes recreating realistic training scenarios, providing language and cultural understanding skills and simulated casualty training. Serco delivers the programme in partnership with a number of small and medium sized enterprises to supply some of the specialised training services such as cultural and language skills, demonstration personnel and casualty simulation.

14 Oct 14. Babcock wins naval equipment support contracts. Babcock has been awarded two contracts by the UK MoD Maritime Equipment Transformation (MET) team to supply and support equipment for the Royal Navy. The seven year contracts include supply of meters & gauges, and atmosphere monitoring equipment. Under each of these ‘Spares Inclusive Upkeep’ contracts, Babcock will provide and repair complete new units and assemblies, spares, and spares inclusive maintenance and will, where required, provide technical assistance (including post-design services) to MET to assist resolution of obsolescence issues and allow technical update, upgrade and/or modification. New assets and spares will be delivered within an agreed lead time and maintenance provided within an agreed turnaround time. Under the Meters & Gauges contract, Babcock’s role relates to equipment such as pressure transducers, thermometers, fluid level and pressure gauges, and instrumentation for a range of warship and submarine classes. Under the Atmosphere Monitoring Equipment contract, equipment such as sensors, gas monitors and test kits will be supplied to a range of naval platforms.

16 Oct 14. Saab receives order for Gripen E support and maintenance systems. Defence and security company Saab has received an order for Gripen E role equipment, along with support and maintenance equipment. The value of the order amounts to approx. SEK 5.8 billion. The order is part of Saab’s existing agreement with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) covering activity for the Gripen E from 2013 to 2026. Delivery will begin in 2016.
14 Oct 14. L-3 WESCAM received an order from Bond Helicopters Europe for seven MX™-10 electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) imaging systems in support of the U.K.’s National Police Air Service (NPAS) EC135T2 helicopter upgrade program. Deliveries to the U.K. will be phased, starting with the first unit in December 2014 and the seventh by December 2016. Installation of the turrets will be completed by Bond Helicopters, while maintenance and incountry support of the MX-10 systems will be performed by L-3 WESCAM Service Centers in the U.K. The selection of the MX-10 on NPAS’ EC135T2 helicopters followed extensive helicopter flight testing and successful trials of the turret on NPAS fixed-wing aircraft. Currently, L-3 WESCAM has over 200 EO/IR and targeting systems operating in the U.K.
