DRS Technologies, Inc. has been awarded three new contracts with a combined valued of approximately $13.2m to provide digital signal processors, rugged computers and assemblies for several ground and airborne surveillance applications. Work for these awards will be performed by the company’s DRS Tactical Systems unit in Palm Bay, Florida, and DRS Tactical Systems (West) unit in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
30 Mar 04. FLIR Systems, Inc. has received an order for its ThermoVision® Sentry(TM) infrared camera systems from Northrop Grumman Corporation valued at approximately $7.2m. Most of the systems will be used for perimeter security around US airbases worldwide under the US Air Force Tactical Automated Security System (TASS) program, for which Northrop Grumman is the prime contractor. FLIR’s ThermoVision® Sentry(TM) is an uncooled, dual field of view infrared camera system with a built in high accuracy pan/tilt mechanism that is designed specifically for perimeter security and surveillance applications in critical environments. Deliveries will begin immediately.
23 Mar 04. EDO Corporation has been awarded a $2m, multi-year contract by Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC – News) to design and develop landing-aid antennas for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. The contract covers the program’s system development and demonstration (SDD) and low rate initial production (LRIP) phases. Northrop Grumman is a principal member of the Lockheed Martin-led F-35 JSF team.
26 Mar 04. The first EuroMIDS production MIDS LVT (Multifunctional Information Distribution System Low Volume Terminal) will be delivered today, as a part of about 350 Terminals under a SPAWAR/IPO production contract on behalf of four European Nations.
The MIDS LVT is the achievement of a successful international cooperative development program between the United States, France, Italy, Spain and Germany, to design, develop, produce and deliver Link 16 terminals that are smaller, lighter, more reliable, less expensive and fully compatible to Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS) Class 2 terminals.
30 Mar 04. ITT Industries’ Aerospace/Communications Division has received a $4.8m Foreign Military Sales order for its SINCGARS Advanced Tactical Communication System (ATCS). The award was made under the VSE Corporation’s Rapid Response Contract with the U.S. Army’s Communications and Electronics Command. Under terms of the order ITT will produce radios and ancillary devices for the government of Croatia.
29th Mar 04. The Joint NBC Regiment has recently taken delivery of six mobile Biological Detection systems that provide the UK’s Armed Services with the most advanced Biological Warfare detection and reporting capabilities in the world.
The Integrated Biological Detection System (IBDS), as it is known, was developed and delivered by a consortia led by Insys. The key IT element of contract was the responsibility of EDS Defence. EDS Defence supplied the rugged computing hardware and intelligent application software that form the heart of IBDS. The software uses advanced signal processing techniques to process raw detector data, merge it with environmental and intelligence information and provide a detection result. The application builds on EDS’ involvement with signal processing research programmes undertaken by scientists at the Government’s Porton Down research facility.
31 Mar 04. BAE Systems recently received nearly $60m in follow-on contracts from the U.S. Air Force for weapon-system upgrades to the EC-130H Compass Call aircraft. Compass Call is a modified version of the Air Force’s C-130 Hercules aircraft, configured to perform tactical command, control and communications countermeasures.
