03 Sep 14. General Dynamics UK has been awarded a contract by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to deliver 589 SCOUT Specialist Vehicle (SV) platforms to the British Army to provide essential capability to the Armoured Cavalry within Army 2020. The platforms, consisting of six variants, will be delivered to the British Army between 2017 and 2024, alongside the provision of initial in-service support and training, and will serve at the heart of the Armoured Infantry Brigade structure. This contract directly safeguards or creates up to 1,300 jobs across the programme’s UK supply chain, with 300 of these at General Dynamics UK’s Oakdale site.

29 Aug 14. Saab provides the next generation vehicle simulators to Norway
Saab has been awarded a contract from the Norwegian Army for development and serial deliveries of the new generation GAMER vehicle simulators (a dual-simulator training system). The total order amounts to SEK 142m. The BT46 two-way simulator is a unique system, that can be adapted to meet a huge variation of needs. A two-way simulator has the ability to simulate the ballistics and time of flight of a projectile in real time, with a high level of precision and simultaneously give immediate and realistic feedback to the gunner and the target. Saab has supplied live training equipment for the Norwegian Combat Training Center in Rena since 2003 and this order will enhance their training capabilities for live training.

29 Aug 14. BAE Systems awards submarine system requirements contract to Hydro. Hydro Group has been awarded a contract by BAE Systems to deliver submarine system requirements for integration onto the UK Royal Navy’s Successor-class submarines, which will replace the ageing Vanguard-class fleet of nuclear submarines. Under the two year, £2m contract, the company will design, develop and install a range of connectorised-through-hull penetrators. Hydro Group sales director Graham Wilkie said: “This contract is a significant step for Hydro Group, and reinforces the company’s 25-year commitment to supporting submarine system requirements. 29 Aug 14. Navistar Defense, Lisle, Illinois, was awarded $9,763,940 firm-fixed-price contract for the upgrading of 487 home-stationed MRAP Maxx Pro dash vehicles to a final configuration, defined as the low rate initial production configuration 21. Fiscal 2013 and 2014 other procurement (Army) funds, and fiscal 2014 operations and maintenance (Army) funds in the amount of $6,684,728 were obligated at the time of the award. Work will be performed in Fort Bliss, Texas, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 30, 2016. Bids were solicited with one received. Army Contracting Command, Tank and Automotive, Warren, Michigan, is the contracting activity (W56HZV-14-C-0109).

01 Sep 14. QinetiQ’s Paramarine Ship and Submersible Design Software has been selected by Newport News Shipbuilding (NSS) as its primary naval architectural software. QinetiQ Paramarine Software will be used for all ships designed and built at its shipyard, including use on the US Navy’s latest class of aircraft carriers and to support submarine research and development. As the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, and one of two providers of U.S. Navy submarines, Newport News Shipbuilding is currently building the new FORD-class aircraft carriers and VIRGINIA-class fast-attack submarines, and performing refuelling and complex overhaul on NIMITZ-class aircraft carriers.
