07 Apr 14. BAE Systems has been awarded a £16.8m contract to produce 105mm illuminating artillery shells, L43A5, for the U.K. MoD. Upon completion of this contract, BAE Systems will have delivered more than 60,000 rounds of 105mm white and infrared illuminating artillery shells to the U.K. MoD. Series production starts immediately and the rounds will be delivered from 2014 through 2016. Final assembly will occur at BAE Systems facility in Karlskoga, Sweden. The L43A5 can be fired from the 105mm Light Gun, currently in service with the United Kingdom and many other armed forces around the world.
09 Apr 14. Frazer-Nash has been selected by the UK MoD’s Dstl to progress their concept for a new working platform for the medic of the future. The consultancy has identified potential concepts for a system called MedicMat with the aim of being used in medical evacuation to transport injured service personnel and civilians. The MedicMat will allow casualties to be evacuated in quick succession without concerns of cross-contamination from the previous casualty. It will also reduce the risks associated with infection from the general dust and dirt found in the harsh environments that UK forces operate in.

10 Apr 14. Gama Engineering wins new defence contract. Gama Engineering Ltd, the Fairoaks Airport, UK based EASA Part 21J and UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) Design Approved Organisation Status company, has been awarded a contract to supply the design solution and major parts for a Traffic Alerting System, GPS and 8.33kHz VHF Comms upgrade to a number of Airbus Helicopters’ Gazelle helicopters for the British Army. The upgrade will include GPS, Comms and Traffic Advisory equipment from Garmin and an electronic Primary Flight Display from Aspen Avionics. Gama Engineering has previously worked with both equipment manufacturers on a significant number of civilian Supplemental Type Certificate programmes, but this is the first such venture on a military platform.
08 Apr 14. Armor Designs Inc., has been awarded and commenced the contract with the U.S. Special Operations Command. The program is a joint research & development contract to design and optimize, a next generation nano-technology ceramic armor, utilizing the Company’s proprietary Volumetrically Controlled Manufacturing process. The Company will partner with MER Corporation, from Tucson, Arizona, USA, that specializes in advanced ceramic design and manufacturing. The contract term is 2 years and the contract overall value is $2m. The Company will provide $700,000.00 USD of the design, prototyping, and manufacturing requirements.
09 Apr 14. Exelis Inc., Fort Wayne, Ind. (W15P7T-14-D-0012); General Dynamics C4 Systems Inc., Scottsdale, Ariz. (W15P7T-14-D-0013); Harris Corp., Rochester, N.Y. (W15P7T-14-D-0014, W15P7T-14-D-0015); and Thales Defense & Security Inc., Clarksburg, Md.
