03 Jun 13. Croatian Army orders Protector remote weapon stations from Kongsberg. Kongsberg Group has been awarded a contract by Ðuro Ðakovic to supply its M151 12.7mm calibre Protector remote weapon stations (RWS) to the Croatian Army. Valued at $17.03m, the order forms part of a contract signed between Ðuro Ðakovic and the Croatia defence ministry for the acquisition and installation of Protector systems on the national army’s AMV 8×8 armoured combat vehicles. After signing the contract, Croatian defence minister Ante Kotromanovic said the continued cooperation with Ðuro Ðakovic on combat armoured vehicle project represents another step in the ministry’s efforts to build a small, but modern and mobile army. 05 Jun 13. Italian MoD orders additional FATS simulators from Meggitt. Meggitt Training Systems has been awarded a series of contracts for delivery of additional FATS virtual small arms training simulator (SAT) systems to the Italian MoD. Valued at a combined $17m, the contract involves the addition of around 55 SATs and 660 weapon training simulation systems (WTSS) to the Italian Army’s existing inventory of Meggitt training equipment. The package will also include the company’s new FATS M100 system architecture, which will support the army’s expanding capabilities due to compatibility with a broad spectrum of devices and software packages. 03 Jun 13. 3SDL to provide ISTAR training to BATUK. 3SDL has received a contract from the UK MoD for delivery of intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) training to the British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK). Awarded after successful completion of a short notice requirement for ISTAR support to British Army Foundation Training (FT) in Kenya during fiscal 2012/13, the contract involves supply of comprehensive ISTAR support to BATUK during the Askari Thunder exercises in Kenya, and Wessex Storm exercise in the UK over the one year, starting this month. Under the contract, the company will supply a full range of live ISTAR emulation, including DH3, H450, MQ-9 Reaper and close air support (CAS) aircraft, along with MX15HDi sensor, three DA42 multi-purpose platforms (MPPs), and remotely operated video enhanced receiver (ROVER) compatible datalinks with remote viewing terminal (RVTs). In addition, Joint Air Land Organisation accredited CAS qualified crews, and highly experienced ground liaison officers (GLOs) will be embedded in BATUK exercise control and deployed Battlegroup/Brigade Headquarters, to help ensure the ISTAR requirements of the target audience are fully addressed at all times. 06 Jun 13. GD to help fix Spanish Navy’s overweight issue of S-80 submarine. Navantia has selected General Dynamics Electric Boat to help fix the overweight issue of the first S-80 class submarine, Isaac Peral (S-81), for the Spanish Navy Spain’s Defence Ministry has confirmed. The move comes after engineers identified the vessel’s excess weight of up to 100t, which could compromise the boat’s capability to submerge and re-surface, during its final construction stage at Navantia’s shipyard in Cartagena, Spain. The Spanish Defense Ministry told Associated Press that Electric Boat would provide technical assistance and review to the Spanish Navy’s Isaac Peral submarine as part of three-year $14m contract. Meanwhile, an analyst said that that submarine’s air-independent propulsion (AIP) system reactor is also underperforming, in addition to its excess weight. The Spanish Defence Ministry is seeking various alternatives and is also studying the problem scope to determine its impact on time and costs. (Source: naval-technology.com)
