27 Mar 13. AgustaWestland AW189 Helicopter selected for UK Search and RescueAgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, announced that its AW189
Search & Rescue (SAR) helicopter will play a pivotal role in the provision of SAR services in the UK. Bristow Helicopters Ltd., which has been awarded the contract by the UK Department for Transport to provide SAR services to the UK for 10 years, has selected the AW189 SAR variant as one of the central platforms for its SAR programme. In addition to the aircraft, AgustaWestland will provide related training, maintenance and support services. A total of 11 AW189s will be operated by Bristow in the UK, with a phased-in starting period between 2015 and 2017. The programme for AgustaWestland is valued at over 275m euro. 28 Mar 13. GKN Aerospace to supply fuel tanks for RAF Puma helicopters. GKN Aerospace has received a contract from Eurocopter UK for the supply of upgraded fuel tanks as part of the UK Royal Air Force’s (RAF) Mk1 Puma helicopter fleet’s life extension programme (LEP). The new self-sealing fuel tanks manufactured and delivered as part of the undisclosed contract are designed to improve the helicopter’s survivability in the battlefield, through enhancing crew safety against weapons, including heavy machine guns, vehicles and aircraft armaments. Tanks are integrated with the company’s proven, ballistically tolerant technology, which is capable of providing protection against 7.62mm to 20mm rounds. (Source: airforce-technology.com)

25 Mar 13. Saab Receives 2nd Development Order for Gripen E from FMV. Saab has, within the framework of the agreement with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) that was made public on February 15 2013, received a development order amounting to SEK 10.7bn for operations during 2015-2023. The agreement with FMV on Gripen E, that was made public on February 15 2013, includes the development and modification of Gripen E for Sweden during the period 2013-2026 as well as a possible order for new production of Gripen E for Switzerland. FMV placed an order for the remaining development work for Gripen E corresponding to SEK 10.7bn. The order includes definition and development work as well as adaptation of test and trial equipment, simulators and rigs. The total value of possible orders under the agreement amounts to a total of SEK
47.2bn, of which SEK 13.2bn now has been received, and these will be booked when each order is received. Remaining orders within the agreement are expected in 2013-2014. (Source: ASD Network)

Simlat has secured a contract for delivery of an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) training and simulation centre to the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF), as part of its Mini UAS programme. The training systems delivered under the undisclosed contract are scheduled to
support the Orbiter-2 Mini UAV fleet acquired by the Finnish Army from

Curtiss-Wright Corporation announced the receipt of a contract from Northrop Grumman to provide open architecture mission computer and network switch subsystems for use in the U.S. Army’s new Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV) Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The initial value of the contract is $2.5m. The contract has a total potential value in excess of $250m over the lifetime of the production phase of the program, which is expected to begin in 2018.
