10 Sep 12. Sectra signed a contract with the Danish Defense Acquisition and Logistics Organization concerning deliveries of the new secure mobile phone Tiger 7401. Tiger 7401 is based on Sectra’s Tiger XS the de facto standard for secure mobile communications within the EU. The Tiger system is used for voice communication, SMS and data at the SECRET security level. It communicates on 2G and 3G as well as satellite communication and IP networks to ensure the highest possible availability for the user.

05 Sep 12. Sweden’s FMV selects BQM-167i as Vidsel target. The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has awarded US target specialist Composite Engineering Inc (CEi) – a subsidiary of Kratos Defense & Security Solutions – a USD11.9m contract for the supply of BQM-167i unmanned aerial targets and associated hardware for target presentations on the Vidsel Test Range. The deal is believed to mark the first sale of CEi’s BQM-167i airborne target vehicle to a European customer. (Source: Jane’s, IDR)

11 Sep 12. Northrop Grumman Corporation has been selected by the Eurofighter Consortium and prime contractor Alenia Aermacchi to provide inertial and satellite navigation systems for Tranche 3 of the Eurofighter Typhoon multirole combat aircraft. Northrop Grumman Italia will provide the Eurofighter Fibre-optical Gyro Inertial Navigation System and a global positioning system (GPS) receiver for the Eurofighter aircraft in all of the programme’s participating nations, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Spain. The new contract is valued at 30m euros and builds on Northrop Grumman’s extensive experience with the Eurofighter programme spanning more than 20 years as a supplier for all three tranches of the programme. Northrop Grumman Italia has delivered a total of more than 400 inertial navigation systems for Tranches 1 and 2 of the Eurofighter.

07 Sep 12. The Direction Générale de l’Armement has commissioned EADS Astrium and Thales Alenia Space to deliver separate studies on future military telecommunications satellites, the French procurement office said in a Sept. 7 statement. The reports will help set the scope of the Comsat NG program due to be launched next year, the DGA said. The new generation program, intended to replace the Syracuse 3 system, is expected to take into account potential European cooperation, particularly with Britain and Italy, the statement said. 12 Sep 12. ATK received a $16.8m engineering and manufacturing development contract modification from the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier for its XM25, Individual Semi-Automatic Airburst System. The contract funds the continuing design, integration, production and testing of fully functional systems to ensure the weapon’s final design meets performance requirements and is production-ready prior to fielding. The XM25 is a rifle that fires a 25mm airbursting round programmed by the weapon’s integrated target acquisition and fire control system to burst directly above a designated target. The system allows soldiers to quickly and accurately engage targets by producing an adjusted aimpoint based on range, environmental factors, and user inputs. (Source: Yahoo!/PRNewswire)

14 Sep 12. Chemring Detection Systems announced a $49m contract award to supply biological detection systems to the US Army and US Navy. The award was made by the Edgewood Contracting Division of the Aberdeen Providing Grounds Contracting Command for over 100 Joint Biological Point Detection Systems (JBPDS) and Initial Fielding Packages. The systems will be installed on Navy ships such as the USS Ross (DDG 71) and in the Stryker Nuclear Biological Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle (NBCRV). (Source: ASD Network)
