CONTRACT NEWS IN BRIEF 30 Jun 03.

30 Jun 03. The Raytheon Co., El Segundo, Calif., is being awarded a $6,942,173 (maximum) indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to provide for the research and development of the Miniature Navigator Demonstration. The miniaturized navigator will be capable of adaptively acquiring Global Positioning System (GPS) and/or maintaining GPS receiver track in severe jamming environments. The Air Force can issue delivery orders totalling up to the maximum amount indicated above, though actual requirements may necessitate less than this amount. At this time, $1,147,666 of the funds has been obligated. Further funds will be obligated as individual delivery orders are issued. This work will be complete December 2004. Solicitation began March 2003, and negotiations were completed June 2003. The Air Force Research Laboratory, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., is the contracting activity (F08630-03-D-0188).

30 Jun 03. BAE SYSTEMS has been selected by Boeing to provide the AN/ALQ-196 Low
Band Jammer for the U.S. Air Force’s Special Operations Command (AFSOC). The value of the contract could reach $80m over the next five years. BAE SYSTEMS Information & Electronic Warfare Systems (IEWS), will work with the prime contractor, Boeing, to integrate the ALQ-196 Low Band Jammer onboard AFSOC’s MC-130H, Talon II and AC-130U gunship aircraft.

02 Jul 03. Lockheed Martin has joined the DD(X) National Team with the signing of a $175m subcontract with Raytheon, the lead systems integrator. Lockheed Martin will leverage its naval systems experience and domain expertise in total ship systems engineering, command and control, Integrated Undersea Warfare (IUSW), weapons control, and phased array radar for the design of Engineering Development Models (EDMs) for DD(X).

02 Jul 03. Vinnell Corporation, a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman Corporation, has been awarded a $48m contract to train the nucleus of a new Iraqi Army. Vinnell and its subcontractors began working at various locations in Iraq July 1 under the one-year contract. The cost-plus-fixed-fee contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Contracting Agency Southern Region Contracting Center. Vinnell’s subcontractors are MPRI, Alexandria, Va.; SAIC, San Diego; Eagle Group International, Inc., Atlanta; Omega Training Group, Columbus, Ga.;
and Worldwide Language Resources, Inc., Rumford, Maine.
