23 Apr 07. QinetiQ-led consortium wins RAO ‘Enabling Secure Information Infrastructure’ research programme. A QinetiQ-led consortium has been awarded the Enabling Secure Information Infrastructure (ESII) programme by the UK MOD’s Research Acquisition Organisation (RAO). Won under competitive tender, the initial four tasks are worth in excess of £5m and form the first research packages let under a three-and a half year enabling contract.

The Swedish Material Defense Agency, selected the Quantum3D ExpeditionDI® to evaluate the performance of dismounted infantry simulators within the larger framework of a Mechanized Infantry Squad. The Mechanized Infantry works with tanks and armoured troop carriers, specifically the CV9040 Fighting Vehicle and the Leopard 2 MBT.

BMT Reliability Consultants Ltd, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has been awarded the second phase of a three-year contract to assist the Swedish Ministry of Defence (FMV) and Swedish Forces in transforming the processes and practices of logistics planning to support the country’s involvement in ‘Out of Area’ military operations.

30 Mar 07. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of a possible Foreign Military Sale to France of used E-2C aircraft as well as associated equipment and services. The total value, if all options are exercised, could be as high as $260m. The Government of France has requested a possible sale of one (1) used E-2C aircraft with HAWKEYE 2000 Airborne Early Warning (AEW) Suite, three (3) T-56-A-427 spare engines, spare and repair parts, support equipment, personnel training and training equipment, publications and technical data, system software development and installation, ground/flight testing of new systems and system modifications, U.S. Government and contractor engineering and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support. 23 Apr 07. InterSense, Inc., announced that its custom configured, IS-900 motion tracking system has been installed in BAE Systems’ Active Cockpit Rig (ACR) for the Typhoon fighter aircraft. Installed by UK-based Virtalis, one of InterSense’s key systems integrators, the hybrid inertial-acoustic IS-900 system is coupled with an area-of-interest eye-tracking system. The BAE Systems’ configuration enables real-time tracking of head position and orientation, while also monitoring the movement of the pilot’s eyes. The InterSense IS-900 system is configured to ensure all components are out of the pilot’s Field of Regard (FoR), decreasing the risk of negative training and compromised realism of the simulated visual scene. Along with the flexibility of the system installation, the IS-900 provides precise, accurate tracking with no noticeable jitter or latency, further ensuring a realistic training session.

20 Apr 07. AAI Corporation has received an order from the U.S. Army for production of 266 additional One System remote video terminals (OSRVTs). In addition to calling for an added number of OSRVT production units this year, the fully funded $14.1m contract provides the balance of funds for an initial 51 units ordered in 2006. Deliveries have begun and will continue through October 2007. As part of this order, AAI will provide 147 extended-range mobile directional antenna systems, spares, training, and contractor logistics support.The contract has options for an additional 779 OSRVT production units and 199 mobile directional antenna systems with a total potential contract value of more than $60m.
