18 Aug 25. Briggs Marine announced its role as Key Subcontractor to Serco following the recent award of the Royal Navy’s Maritime Services contracts. This significant milestone marks the continuation of a trusted partnership that has spanned over 17 years, delivering critical marine support services to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD). The contract will see Briggs deliver Range Safety and Aircrew Training (RSACT) services at a number of locations around the UK. 27 Aug 25. Boeing – UK – C-17 Globemaster III Aircraft Sustainment Support. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of the United Kingdom of C-17 Globemaster III Aircraft Sustainment Support for an estimated cost of $861m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.The Government of the United Kingdom has requested to buy equipment and services to support contractor logistics support sustainment for the United Kingdom’s C-17 (Globemaster III) aircraft fleet. The following non-MDE items will be included: engine components, parts, and accessories; major and minor modifications; computer program identification numbers; spare parts, consumables and accessories, and repair and return support; classified and unclassified software delivery and support; classified and unclassified publications and technical documentation; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $861m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a key NATO Ally that is an important force for political stability and economic progress in Europe. The proposed sale will improve the United Kingdom’s capability to meet current and future threats by ensuring the operational readiness of the Royal Air Force. Its C-17 aircraft fleet provides strategic airlift capabilities that directly support U.S. and coalition operations around the world. 29 Aug 25. Saab has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for a larger uncrewed underwater vehicle. The order value amounts to SEK 60m. The goal of the project, led by FMV, is to develop a concept for a larger uncrewed underwater vehicle, known as a Large Uncrewed Undersea Vehicle (LUUV). Saab is the prime contractor for the LUUV and will be responsible for the design, construction, and testing of the vehicle. Saab’s autonomous control system, Autonomous Ocean Core, which provides autonomous capabilities for vessels on and below the water surface, will be integrated into the vehicle’s systems. The first sea trials are planned for the summer of 2026.

27 Aug 25. Germany Approves Litening 5 Targeting Pods for Eurofighter Fleet. Procurement of 90 advanced pods underscores Germany’s long-standing partnership with Rafael. The German parliament has authorized the procurement of 90 Litening 5 targeting pods for its Eurofighter Typhoon fleet, enhancing the precision strike and reconnaissance capabilities of the Bundeswehr. The decision reflects Germany’s confidence in Rafael’s systems and continues a decades-long defense partnership. It also aligns with a broader NATO trend emphasizing multi-wavelength sensor integration and stand-off targeting effectiveness in contested airspaces. Litening 5 is a fifth-generation targeting system already operational with 28 air forces worldwide. With more than 2,000 units delivered and over 2.2 m operational flight hours—primarily during contingency operations—it has become one of the most widely used targeting pods in service today. Precision Capabilities and Mission Adaptability The pod’s sensor suite includes mid-wave and short-wave infrared, high-resolution color imaging, and dual-wavelength laser designation, with an optional synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for wide-area, all-weather imaging. This enables long-range detection, recognition, and identification of targets under varied atmospheric conditions. Litening 5 supports both air-to-ground and air-to-air missions, including ground moving target indication, multi-target tracking, and automatic target recognition. For air-to-air operations, it enhances target identification at range, supports detection of low-RCS threats, and provides missile cueing when integrated with the host platform. It also offers capabilities for detecting and engaging unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), supporting operational flexibility against diverse threats. Multi-Platform Integration and Operational Footprint Platform-agnostic in design, Litening 5 has been integrated on over 26 aircraft types, including F-15, F-16, Gripen, A-10, Mirage 2000, Embraer, and Eurofighter. It is compatible with laser-, GPS-, and image-guided munitions and includes real-time datalink capability across Ku, C, and L bands. 28 Aug 25. The government of Poland has selected L3Harris Technologies (NYSE: LHX) to provide its Viper Shield™ electronic warfare (EW) system for the country’s F-16 Viper upgrade program. Poland will purchase the AN/ALQ-254 Viper Shield system through the U.S. government to enhance the offensive and defensive capabilities of its current F-16 Block 52+ configuration. Viper Shield will equip Poland with the same advanced EW features available to other international allies operating the new F-16 Block 70 variant. L3Harris is offering Viper Shield in a variety of installation options, including the integration into the Block 70/72 aircraft and a retrofit version for previous F-16 blocks. BAE Systems (LON: BA) received a contract from Lockheed Martin in December 2024 for additional radio-frequency (RF) sensors that provide critical guidance capabilities for the stealthy Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM). 15 Aug 25. Navantia to equip Thailand’s Pattani class with Catiz combat system. Spanish shipbuilder Navantia has received a contract to upgrade the Royal Thai Navy’s two Pattani-class offshore patrol vessels (OPVs). As part of the upgrade, the two OPVs will be fitted with Navantia’s Catiz combat management system (CMS), the company said in a 22 August statement on the contract. Catiz is a multirole system that is based on the company’s Sistema de Combate de los Buques de la Armada (SCOMBA) CMS that has been developed for the Spanish Navy. In addition to the new CMS, Navantia will integrate systems from other manufacturers, although details on these were not provided in the statement. Navantia will also provide life-cycle support documentation and conduct training for Royal Thai Navy personnel in the operation and maintenance of the new systems. The Royal Thai Navy commissioned its Pattani-class OPVs, HTMS Pattani and HTMS Narathiwat, in December 2005 and April 2006 respectively. Both vessels were launched by China’s Hudong Shipyard at its facilities in Shanghai in September 2004 and March 2005 respectively. Each vessel displaces approximately 1,400 tonnes at full load and measures around 95.5 m in overall length. 28 Aug 25. Ukraine – Air Delivered Munitions. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Ukraine of Air Delivered Munitions and related equipment for an estimated cost of $825m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress. The Government of Ukraine has requested to buy up to three thousand three hundred fifty (3,350) Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) missiles and three thousand three hundred fifty (3,350) Embedded Global Positioning System (GPS)/Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) (EGI) with Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM), Y-Code, or M-Code. The following non-MDE items will be included: missile containers; stoker pylons; component parts and support equipment; spare parts, consumables and accessories, and repair and return support; weapons software and support equipment; mission planning system hardware; classified software delivery and support; classified and unclassified publications and technical documentation; personnel training and training equipment; transportation support; studies and surveys; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $825m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe. This proposed sale will improve Ukraine’s capability to meet current and future threats by further equipping it to conduct self-defense and regional security missions. Ukraine will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. Ukraine will use funding from Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway and Foreign Military Financing from the United States for this purchase. The ERAM is an example of working together with our NATO allies to develop a capable and scalable system capable of being delivered on a fast timeline. The principal contractors will be Zone 5 Technologies and CoAspire. At this time, the U.S. Government is not aware of any offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale. Any offset agreement will be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and the contractor. Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Ukraine. 25 Aug 25. Saab has today signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and received an order for four Gripen E/F fighter aircraft from FMV for the Kingdom of Thailand. The order value is approximately SEK 5.3bn and deliveries will take place 2025-2030. The contract between Saab and FMV includes three Gripen E and one Gripen F aircraft as well as associated equipment, support and training.
