Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) today announced that its UK-based Curtiss-Wright Nuclear business (formerly Ultra Energy) signed a strategic partnership with Rolls-Royce SMR to deliver critical safety systems for its Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. Under the contract, Curtiss-Wright will provide design, qualification, testing and supply of the non-programmable diverse Reactor Protection Systems for a global fleet of Rolls-Royce SMRs. Work under this agreement, including the design and implementation of Curtiss-Wright’s Reactor Protection Systems, will be performed by Curtiss-Wright Nuclear’s facility in Dorset, UK, supporting regional economic growth, as well as expanding the UK’s nuclear skills, opportunities and capabilities.

05 Aug 25. QinetiQ has signed a £25m contract to deliver an immersive training environment that will enable the Royal Navy to achieve warfighting readiness at pace. The five-year contract will see QinetiQ deliver virtual training that realistically simulates the missions that Navy personnel can expect to undertake and the threats they could face. The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has selected American autonomous drone leader Skydio, alongside its European partner COBBS BELUX BV, as part of a new agreement to supply and support small ISR drones across NATO member nations within the Uncrewed Aerial Systems Support Partnership. This framework agreement is for the procurement and life cycle support of nano category uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) under 2.5 kg, allowing NATO member nations and partners to acquire high-performance drones that support modern defense, security and tactical missions. With Skydio’s technology and COBBS’ regional expertise, NATO forces will have rapid access to cutting-edge aerial systems that can adapt to complex field operations. Skydio will deliver its flagship X10D drone, selected for its superior autonomy, sensor performance, and mission versatility. The company is partnered with COBBS BELUX BV, a Belgian firm, that will handle sales, distribution, training, and lifecycle service support for the Skydio platform across Europe. 06 Aug 25. The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has selected Australian dual-use technology company Castlepoint Systems to prevent data leaks with AI-powered data control. Castlepoint’s proprietary Explainable AI technology will provide real-time, automated control over complex datasets to reduce the risk of human-led errors when handling sensitive data. This strategic investment reflects the MoD’s commitment to strengthening its data protection posture. One such incident – the 2022 Afghan data breach – highlighted the consequences of human error, when a spreadsheet containing personal details of nearly 19,000 individuals was mistakenly sent outside secure channels, exposing the identities of those at risk of Taliban reprisals. AI-powered data labelling can prevent mistakes like this by automatically identifying and applying the correct security classifications to sensitive information. Castlepoint continuously monitors documents and emails within an organisation’s network, using advanced AI to understand the topics, people, and events they discuss. 05 Aug 25. In MilDefs first ever contract with NSPA the mission is to deliver ruggedized IT-equipment such as mobile computers for further use in NATO-operations. Deliveries will take place in 2025. NSPA is NATO’s lead organization for multinational acquisition, support and sustainment across all domains, delivering a broad spectrum of integrated capabilities for the Alliance, its member nations and partners. The Agency brings together NATO’s logistics support and procurement activities, providing efficient, effective and responsive solutions.
04 Aug 25. Bundeswehr requests delivery of over 1,000 logistic vehicles from Rheinmetall – order worth around €770m. The Bundeswehr has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply more than 1,000 logistic vehicles with a total value of around €770m gross. The order comprises 963 vehicles with swap-body systems, some with protected driver cabins, as well as swap-body flatbeds and tarpaulin-arch superstructures. In addition, 425 unprotected transport vehicles (UTV) were requested for delivery. The UTVs are available in 4×4 and 8×8 versions. The delivery of the approximately 1,400 requested vehicles will take place before the end of this year. The orders have been booked for the third quarter of 2025.

Roda computer, subsidiary of MilDef, has signed a contract on deliveries of rugged IT equipment to secunet, Germany’s leading cybersecurity company. The deliveries will take place in 2026. Roda, part of MilDef Group since the acquisition of Roda computers GmbH in March 2025, has now signed a pivotal contract extension for rugged laptops to secunet. secunet Security Networks AG specializes in highly secure IT security, particularly in the areas of public administration, defence, healthcare and sectors with elevated security and compliance requirements.

05 Aug 25. The Department of Defense announced a $10m award to Elk Creek Resources Corporation (“ECRC”) via Title III of the Defense Production Act (DPA). ECRC is a subsidiary of NioCorp Developments Ltd. (NioCorp). Located near Elk Creek, Nebraska, ECRC is developing the United States’ first polymetallic deposit targeting near-term production of Scandium (Sc), Niobium (Nb), Titanium (Ti), and other critical minerals. This investment supports the March 20, 2025, Executive Order 14241 Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production, the goal of which is to facilitate domestic mineral production.

The U.S. Government has selected Viasat to develop a next-generation Ethernet Data Encryptor (EDE), designed to secure TS/SCI-level data across cloud and transport networks. Viasat, Inc. is set to develop a next-generation Ethernet Data Encryptor (EDE) to protect classified data across U.S. Government cloud data centers and transport networks. The work falls under a sole-source, multi-million dollar Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) award. As part of this award, Viasat will design and develop a high-assurance (formerly Type 1), high-speed EDE that meets the most stringent security standards for safeguarding information up to the Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) level. The effort will be led by Viasat’s government encryption team under its Defense and Advanced Technologies segment, which will handle the development, certification, and sustainment of the new encryptor to address evolving government specifications, cloud communications demands, and emerging security threats. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Ukraine of Transportation and Consolidation Services and related equipment for an estimated cost of $99.5m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress. The Government of Ukraine has requested to buy transportation and consolidation services in support of security assistance programs and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $99.5m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the ability of Ukraine to provide for its own defense. The proposed sale will improve Ukraine’s capability to meet current and future threats by further equipping it to conduct self-defense and regional security missions through transportation and consolidation services. Ukraine will have no difficulty absorbing these services into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The principal contractor(s) will be determined from approved vendors. At this time, the U.S. Government is not aware of any offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale. Any offset agreement will be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and the contractor. 06 Aug 25. Electro Optic Systems Holdings Limited (“EOS”) (ASX: EOS) is pleased to announce that it has secured an order for a drone defence capability using a new 100kW high energy laser technology. EOS is already a global leader in counter-drone capability using traditional kinetic weapons to bring down drones. The new high energy laser builds on these core competencies and substantially extends them. The order is valued at €71.4m (approximately A$125m) and was placed by a European NATO Member State. It requires production and delivery of capability, as well as spare parts, training and documentation. The world-first export order will be fulfilled during 2025-2028 by EOS in Singapore.
07 Aug 25. Israel has placed a significant order for infantry weapons made by SIG Sauer, a notice published on the US government’s System for Award Management website has confirmed.It said US Army Contracting Command had awarded a USD95 m Foreign Military Sales contract on Israel’s behalf to SIG Sauer on 17 July that covered an unspecified number of MCX assault rifles chambered in .300 Blackout, MMG 338 machine guns, LMG 7.62s, suppressors, spare parts, and other related equipment. The MMG 338 was developed for a US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) competition seeking a belt-fed machine gun that weighs less than 11 kg, uses the .338 Norma Magnum cartridge, can be converted to fire less powerful NATO-standard 7.62×51 mm ammunition, and can be fitted with a suppressor. SIG simultaneously developed the similar LMG for the US Army’s requirement for an M249 Squad Automatic Weapon replacement that uses the new 6.8×51 mm cartridge. The LMG can also be converted to use 7.62×51 mm or 6.5×48 mm Creedmoor ammunition, although this is not a feature on the US Army’s M250 version. When SIG opened a new factory in Arkansas in October 2024 it displayed a poster that indicated Israel had placed an order for its MMG 338, LMG 762, and Pitbull remote-control weapon station earlier that year. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has been awarded a contract for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of the US Navy’s Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo and ammunition vessel USNS Alan Shepard. This represents the first successful bid following the Korean government’s “Make American Shipbuilding Great Again (MASGA)” proposal, aimed at enhancing Korea-US shipbuilding cooperation. The Government of Australia has requested to buy equipment and services to support maintenance of its MC-55A aircraft fleet, to include major and minor modifications; spare parts; consumables and accessories; repair and return support; U.S. government and contractor engineering; technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $404m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States. Australia is one of our most important allies in the Western Pacific. The strategic location of this political and economic power contributes significantly to ensuring peace and economic stability in the region. It is vital to the U.S. national interest to assist our ally in developing and maintaining a strong and ready self-defense capability. The proposed sale will improve Australia’s capability to maintain its fleet of MC-55A aircraft that enhances its ability to conduct effective air operations and supports U.S. operations in the region. 05 Aug 25. Japan nabs $10bn frigate deal. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles and Minister for Defence Industry Pat Conroy have formally revealed the long-anticipated winner of the $10 bn SEA 3000 general purpose frigate contract. Defence Connect can officially reveal that the Albanese government is accelerating the delivery of a larger and more lethal surface combatant fleet with the selection of the upgraded Japanese Mogami Class frigate as the preferred platform for the Royal Australian Navy’s future fleet of general purpose frigates. The decision comes following a competitive and comprehensive tender process, during which Defence assessed the Mogami Class as the most capable option to rapidly meet the strategic requirements of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The decision comes months ahead of schedule, signalling the government’s commitment to transforming the ADF into a more integrated, responsive and combat-ready force. The advanced Mogami Class frigate, in its upgraded configuration, offers a range of up to 10,000 nautical miles and is equipped with a 32-cell vertical launch system (VLS), advanced surface-to-air missiles, and potent anti-ship missile capabilities, making it a highly versatile asset for modern naval operations. 07 Aug 25. Canadian space technology company MDA Space has secured a C$39m ($28m) contract to provide uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) for the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) Halifax-class frigates. The initiative is part of the Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (ISTAR UAS) project aimed at bolstering the RCN’s capabilities in maritime threat detection.
