05 Jun 25. Babcock Secures £114m Contract to Support First Nuclear Submarine Defueling Operations in 20 years. Babcock International Group (Babcock), the defence company, has been awarded a three-year contract to prepare for the first nuclear defueling of a decommissioned Trafalgar Class submarine in over 20 years. The operations will take place at Babcock’s Devonport facility in Plymouth, marking a significant milestone in the UK’s Submarine Dismantling Project. This £114m contract from the Ministry of Defence will see Babcock working collaboratively with the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE) and leading industry partners to prepare for the defuel of four decommissioned submarines, with defuel activities recommencing from 2026. Defueling is a key enabler to submarine dismantling and must be undertaken before the full dismantling process commences. The work will take place in parallel with Babcock’s large-scale infrastructure development programme in Devonport, which will provide highly capable facilities in support of the operational submarine programme.

03 Jun 25. Bittium has received a purchase order from its European partner for supplying the procurement agency of a European country’s armed forces with a tactical communications solution. The modern and high-performance tactical communications solution supports commanding the troops and will be in test use by the special operations forces of the country’s armed forces. The communications solution to be supplied includes Tough SDR Vehicular radios, Tough SDR Handheld radios, software, and accessories. The value of the purchase order is approximately EUR2.2m and the products will be delivered during the year 2025. In addition to the Tough SDR radios and their accessories, Bittium will deliver tactical waveforms, including ESSOR High Data Rate Waveform, that are at the core of the high-level data performance, security, and reliability of the network, as well as Voice over IP solutions that enable resilient voice across the network.

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration selected the Lockheed Martin TPY-4 next-generation ground-based air surveillance radar to enhance the country’s long-range surveillance capability, becoming the third country to choose the fifth-generation radar platform. Lockheed Martin will deliver the first TPY-4 radar systems in 2027 to support the Swedish Air Force’s national defense requirements. The TPY-4 radar system is a highly advanced, phased-array radar that provides unparalleled air surveillance capabilities, including detection and tracking of airborne targets in real-time. This gives troops an advantage against any adversary and enables them to execute their mission safely. 02 Jun 25. Estonia – Javelin Missiles. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Estonia of Javelin Missiles and related equipment for an estimated cost of $296m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of Estonia has requested to buy eight hundred (800) FGM-148F Javelin missiles (including 8 fly-to-buy missiles) and an additional seventy-two (72) Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units (LwCLUs) that will be added to a previously implemented case whose value was under the congressional notification threshold. The original Foreign Military Sales (FMS) case, valued at $10.18m ($3.1m in MDE), included twelve (12) LwCLUs; LwCLU Basic Skills Trainers; Javelin missile simulation rounds; Battery Coolant Units; spare parts; tool kits and support equipment; equipment training; U.S. Government and contractor technical assistance and services; engineering services; and related elements of logistics and program support. This notification is for a combined eight hundred (800) FGM-148F Javelin missiles (including 8 fly-to-buy missiles) and eighty-four (84) LwCLUs. The following non-MDE items will also be included: LwCLU Basic Skills Trainers; Javelin missile simulation rounds; Battery Coolant Units; spare parts; tool kits and support equipment; equipment training; U.S. Government and contractor technical assistance and services; engineering services; and related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total program cost is $296m. 06 Jun 25. AgEagle Sells eBee TAC Public Safety Drones to Sweden. AgEagle Aerial Systems Inc. has announced orders for multiple eBee TAC Public Safety units to the Government of Sweden. The order was executed through its strategic partnership with Brigantes, the AgEagle defense distributor for the Nordic region. The eBee TAC Public Safety, designed for tactical mapping and situational awareness, equips users with cutting-edge drone technology to enhance public safety and defense operations. 06 Jun 25. Airbus has been awarded a contract from the German procurement agency Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) to equip 23 Luftwaffe A400Ms with DIRCM protection systems. DIRCM stands for ‘Directed Infrared Counter Measures’ and will protect the military transport aircraft from missiles with infrared seekers. Under the contract just signed, the company will also provide services including training, service bulletins and tools. Airbus teams will install the DIRCM protection system from Elbit Systems on a total of 23 aircraft during scheduled maintenance at Airbus in Manching, southern Germany, as well as in Getafe and Seville, Spain. These 23 aircraft are used for tactical operations, including medical evacuation missions in crisis areas. In contrast, the logistical variant of the A400M is deployed for standard operations such as long-range transport of troops, heavy armoured vehicles, helicopters or specialised civil engineering equipment.

04 Jun 25. The U.S. Navy has awarded BAE Systems $30m to refresh the AN/APX-123A(V) Common Transponder (CXP), which provides time-critical insights that help prevent friendly fire incidents. The refreshed CXP will support the U.S. Navy fleet and joint forces for air defense, weapon systems, air traffic control, and range instrumentation. The upgrade will serve as a replacement option for currently installed Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) transponders on existing and emerging platforms including unmanned aerial vehicles, ships, fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters. As a form, fit, and function replacement, its design will address obsolescence and processing capacity to support future needs. The open-system architecture design and high-density field programmable gate array technology ensures ongoing versatility and future utility through software upgrades, without the risk and cost associated with hardware modifications. The AN/APX-123A(V) CXP will be Mark XIIB IFF certified with Mode S and Mode 5 for secure and encrypted data exchange – meeting latest Department of Defense standards. It will also include additional receive channels for passive acquisition of Mode 5 Level 2 and Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast In, enhancing situational awareness for warfighters. It will provide high-performance, multi-function capabilities while supporting the latest crypto requirements. With more than 80 years of IFF experience, BAE Systems has delivered over 1,500 interrogators, 6,000 combined interrogator transponder systems, and 16,000 transponders. The AN/APX-123A(V) CXP technical refresh work will be performed at BAE Systems’ Greenlawn, New York and Austin, Texas facilities. Production hardware is expected to be qualified for flight and delivered to users in 2027.

NorthStar Maritime Dismantlement Services LLC, Vernon, Vermont, is awarded a $536,749,731 firm-fixed-price contract (N00024-25-C-4135) for the dismantling, recycling, and disposal of Ex-Enterprise (CVN 65). Under this contract CVN 65 will be dismantled in its entirety, and all resulting materials will be properly recycled or disposed of. 01 Jun 25. IEE Under Contract with L3Harris for Viper Shield™ Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) Displays. Advancing from development phase into production with 3ATI units. IEE, manufacturer of field-proven military displays, is moving into the production phase of a contract with L3Harris to deliver hundreds of 3ATI Electric Warfare (EW) Multi-Function Displays (MFDs) following the recent first-flight success of the Viper Shield digital electronic warfare system in the single-seat F-16 Block 70. As the cockpit display portion of a multi-LRU EW System (EWS), IEE’s 3ATI is a critical part of the Viper Shield system. The full-color 3ATI is a smart display that presents threat data as well as diagnostic functions for the EWS. It also functions as the aircrew controller of the EWS. Through six system control buttons, the unit provides controls to start built-in test, prioritize threats, change modes, and mute audio. It can also give selective menus to regulate and change mission characteristics of the EWS. It features a two-position brightness control button to regulate the screen brightness from NVIS through daylight readable luminance.

Vigilant Aerospace Systems, Inc., provider of multi-sensor detect-and-avoid and airspace management software FlightHorizon, has been selected by the U.S. Air Force as a new vendor on the $46 bn Enterprise-Wide Agile Acquisition Contract, or EWAAC IDIQ. The contract, designed to accelerate the development and delivery of innovative weapons systems, runs through 2031. The U.S. Air Force awarded 122 companies positions on the $46bn EWAAC as part of the fourth selection round to the procurement contract meant to support the rapid development of novel weapons capabilities. The acquisition vehicle’s requirements include research and development, test and evaluation, production and fielding, prototyping, weapon design, system modeling and modernization. The contract is focused on digital acquisition and sustainment practices, including digital engineering, agile processes and open systems architecture. FlightHorizon utilizes NASA-patented technology to provide detect-and-avoid (DAA) alerts for uncrewed aircraft and to provide aircraft tracking. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Kuwait of the M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank System Sustainment Support and related equipment for an estimated cost of $325m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of Kuwait has requested to buy equipment and services related to sustainment support for legacy M1A2 and new M1A2K Abrams main battle tank systems. The following non-MDE items will be included: repair parts; spare parts; replacement materials; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $325m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the infrastructure of a major non-NATO ally that has been an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East. The principal contractor will be General Dynamics Land Systems, located in Sterling Heights, MI. At this time, the U.S. Government is not aware of any offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale. 03 Jun 25. Rheinmetall has received additional major orders for the delivery of 155 mm artillery ammunition. An international customer has placed two orders at the subsidiary Rheinmetall Denel Munition to supply extended range, full bore (ERFB) 155 mm artillery ammunition worth a total of a high double-digit m amount. The order includes projectiles, propellants and fuses. The latest orders are the result of rapidly rising international demand, triggered by the tense global security situation. Rheinmetall is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of large-calibre ammunition. The Düsseldorf-based Technology Corporation Rheinmetall has been increasing its production capacity since 2022, and aims at producing at least 1.1 m 155 mm artillery shells per year by 2027. Like the entire Rheinmetall Corporation, Rheinmetall Denel Munition is constantly expanding its production capacities, as international supply capacities are unable to keep up with demand. Rheinmetall Denel Munition is also making progress in integrating significant technological innovations into its production. This also results in higher performance and outstanding field usability for users. Rheinmetall Denel Munition is currently validating the firing of precision projectiles with a range of 73 km from howitzers which are compatible with NATO’s Joint Ballistics Memorandum of Understanding (JBMOU). These ranges enable significant survivability and offensive effectiveness on the battlefield.

United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) EDGE Group has secured Dh9bn ($2.45bn) naval contract with the Kuwait Ministry of Defence (MOD) to supply FALAJ3 missile boats. The group will serve as the prime contractor and oversee the comprehensive programme, encompassing the design, construction and trials, along with vessels delivery. The contract also includes integrated logistics support and in-service support, with EDGE providing the ammunition for the 62 metre vessels. 06 Jun 25. KAI – The Philippines has signed a contract with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to acquire an additional batch of 12 FA-50PH light combat aircraft. The contract, which was announced on 3 June, is worth approximately USD700 million, South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced on 5 June. The contract includes not just the aircraft but also follow-up military support, KAI added in a statement. The contract calls for delivery of the 12 aircraft by June 2030, KAI added. The technology will enhance air support for several police services in Canada. 04 Jun 25. Royal Thai Air Force confirms selection of Saab’s Gripen E/F. The Royal Thai Air Force has today confirmed its selection of the Saab Gripen E/F as its new future multi-role fighter. Saab and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) will now follow the next steps in the procurement process with the Kingdom of Thailand. At this point Saab has not signed a contract nor received an order relating to this announcement. In addition to Gripen E/F fighter aircraft and associated equipment, Saab’s offer also includes a long-term offset package. This will benefit the national security and strategic independence of Thailand, while also bringing new jobs and investments to a range of Thai society sectors. The details are yet to be determined.
