22 May 25.  Qinetiq £1.5bn defence contract ensures world-class equipment testing for UK forces and secures 1,200 jobs. UK Armed Forces will benefit from world-class equipment training and testing under a contract which supports more than 1,200 skilled jobs across the UK. The five-year £1.5 bn contract extension with British defence firm QinetiQ provides test, trial, training and evaluation of defence equipment and capabilities at 16 Ministry of Defence sites. This includes missile firings, test pilot training and delivering live-threat scenarios.  The Long-Term Partnering Agreement will sustain 1,200 UK jobs, including more than 200 in Scotland and 200 in Wales, delivering on the government’s Plan for Change by boosting jobs and prosperity for working people, while keeping the nation safe.   The investment supports an extensive supply chain of 825 companies, including 590 small-to-medium enterprises – demonstrating the government’s commitment to small businesses and their access to the defence market and ensuring defence is an engine for growth in every region and nation of the UK.  The contract will ensure UK Armed Forces equipment remains combat-ready and will support the delivery of future capabilities, including the Global Combat Air Programme’s next-generation combat aircraft.   The Agreement has supported key moments for UK capabilities, including the first launch of a ballistic rocket into space from the UK, the first firing of a high-power laser directed energy weapon – DragonFire – against aerial targets and Europe’s first successful demonstration of teaming a piloted aircraft with an autonomous air vehicle.  (Source: https://www.gov.uk/)

17 May 25.  The Ministry of Defence has awarded a contract worth £20.5m to Northrop Grumman UK Ltd for the in-service support of navigation and radar systems across the Royal Navy’s Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) carriers and other naval platforms. The contract, announced via a transparency notice, covers the Integrated Navigation and Bridge Systems (INBS) of the QEC aircraft carriers, as well as the VM250 Radar, Astute Ships Inertial Navigation System, and MK39 Gyroscope used across multiple naval platforms. The awarded contract includes a wide range of support services aimed at maintaining the operational effectiveness of these critical systems. According to the notice:

  • “The Contract will include in service core support of the INBS Equipment and Legacy equipment.”
  • “The in-service support includes safety management, spares provision, systems repairs, a range of supplementary support tasks and technical support.”

The contract is classified as a Single Source Qualifying Defence Contract and was awarded to Northrop Grumman UK Ltd, based in New Malden. The contract supports the Royal Navy’s flagship carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, by maintaining the crucial navigation and radar systems that enable effective maritime operations. 20 May 25. Babcock International Group (Babcock) has been awarded a c£70m contract to deliver new infrastructure facilities as part of a £300m defence contract secured by Ascent Flying Training (Ascent) to deliver the Future ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) and Rear Crew Training System (FIRCTS) programme. Babcock will manage the build of two state-of-the-art training facilities at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire and RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall that prepare RAF and Navy trainees for the demands of modern worldwide operating environments.  The FIRCTS programme will also provide significant commercial, social and economic value to Cornwall, Lincolnshire and Bristol (Ascent’s headquarters) until 2033. It will increase local employment, creating approximately 68 highly skilled roles and £180m spent in the British supply chain. Ascent is a joint venture between Babcock and Lockheed Martin, responsible for delivering the UK Military Flying Training System (UKMFTS) in partnership with the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

20 May 25. Milrem Robotics to provide six THeMIS UGVs to CNIM Systèmes Industriels intended for Ukraine. Milrem Robotics, the world’s leading robotics and autonomous systems developer, will supply the French company CNIM Systèmes Industriels with six THeMIS UGVs, which will be integrated with route clearance systems and delivered to Ukraine. CNIM Systèmes Industriels will provide Ukraine with six ROCUS (Route Clearance Unmanned Systems). Financed by the French government, ROCUS UGVs will be delivered to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) for rapid ground clearance. The ROCUS was developed based on the THeMIS platform and includes a route clearance payload developed and adapted by CNIM Systèmes Industriels. ROCUS UGVs extend the stand-off distance from threats and improve operational effectiveness in high-risk environments. They enable units to remotely inspect, confirm, and neutralise a broad spectrum of explosive threats, thereby ensuring the safety of deminers. ROCUS’ will help SESU secure civilians’ movement, protect the environment, revive agriculture in the country, and rebuild residential areas.

 

16 May 25. Weibel to deliver XENTA radars for Norwegian NOMADS system. Weibel’s XENTA radar, which will be produced in Denmark, are planned to be delivered between 2026 and 2027. Danish manufacturer Weibel Scientific has been contracted by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace to supply its XENTA surveillance radars. These radars are planned to be integrated into Kongsberg’s National Manoeuvre Air Defence System (NOMADS), a mobile platform developed for the Norwegian Army. (Source: army-technology.com)

16 May 25. Electro Optic Systems Holdings Limited (“EOS” or the “Company”) (ASX:EOS) today announces that it has secured a new order for Remote Weapon Systems (RWS) amounting to €31m, or approximately A$53m. The order, placed by a European naval systems integration business and funded by a Western European government, is for EOS’ flagship Slinger counter-drone RWS, configured for naval deployment. The systems will be supplied with a range of weapon configurations, including some with cannons. The order also includes spares, training and other items. The systems are intended to address urgent operational requirements in Europe, with delivery expected during 2025 and 2026. This is the largest order to date for the Slinger counter-drone RWS and the largest ever order for EOS naval RWS. It follows extensive and ongoing marketing and sales activity by EOS in several high-growth markets.

 

21 May 25. Gabler Naval Technology, a leading German developer of submarine systems, today announced the award of a new contract to deliver an advanced mast solution for an undisclosed European navy. The announcement was made on the second day of the Combined Naval Event (CNE) in Farnborough, where Gabler is presenting its latest naval innovations. The contract, secured following a competitive international tender process, reinforces Gabler’s reputation as a trusted supplier of high-performance mast and hoist systems for both conventional and next-generation submarines. While specific details of the program remain confidential, the scope includes the design, manufacture, and delivery of a state-of-the-art non-penetrating mast tailored to meet the demanding operational requirements of European naval forces.

22 May 25. Boeing – Poland – GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bombs. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Poland of GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bombs and related elements of logistics and program support for an estimated cost of $180m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of Poland has requested to buy one thousand four hundred (1,400) GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bombs (SDB-I); and four (4) GBU-39 (T-1)/B inert practice bombs with fuzes. The following non-MDE items are also included: GBU-39 tactical training rounds; practice bombs; bomb components; containers; weapons system support; support and test equipment; spare parts, consumables and accessories, and repair and return support; classified and unclassified software delivery and support; classified and unclassified publications and technical data; personnel training and training equipment; warranties; transportation support; site surveys; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, logistics, and technical support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $180m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is a force for political and economic stability in Europe. The proposed sale will improve Poland’s capability to meet current and future threats by enhancing its capacity to conduct effective air-to-ground strikes, reinforcing its capability to protect Polish sovereign territory, and improving its ability to meet NATO requirements. Poland will have no difficulty absorbing these articles into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. At this time, the U.S. Government is not aware of any offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale. 16 May 25. Exail, a global leader in simulation solutions, announces a new partnership with Babcock France for the renowned Mentor 2 program. Awarded by the French Ministry of the Armed Forces through the Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA), this 17-year contract will see Exail supplying advanced flight simulation systems to support the French Air and Space Force and the French Navy pilot training. Fully aligned with the DGA’s stringent technical and pedagogical standards, Exail will design and deliver simulators for the Pilatus PC-7 MKX. The suite includes several interconnected mixed-reality flight training devices equipped with XR headsets, interactive touchscreens, and high-fidelity simulation software. An ejection training simulator will also be delivered to support safe, realistic emergency procedure training. 21 May 25. Leonardo Bosnia and Herzegovina – AW-119Kx Helicopters. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Bosnia and Herzegovina of AW-119Kx helicopters and related equipment for an estimated cost of $100m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. Bosnia and Herzegovina has requested to buy AW-119Kx helicopters; qualification and transition training of pilots and maintainers; in-country contractor field service representative support; program management reviews; technical assistance; product support; associated aviation ground support equipment; platform-peculiar ground support equipment; hardware; special tools; test equipment and basic issue items; quality assurance team inspections; inventories; ground run and flight test validation and verification testing; air freight transportation delivery; initial spares, repair and consumable parts; operator maintenance; and technical manuals; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $100 m. The proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and the national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe. The proposed sale will improve the capability of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH) to meet current and future threats by supporting regional and NATO cooperation exercises, protecting Bosnia and Herzegovinian national security interests in the country’s mountainous and inaccessible terrain. 20 May 25. IQM Quantum Computers has won VTT’s innovation partner tender for the delivery of a 300-qubit superconducting quantum computer. The signed agreement is an excellent match with the project’s main objective of putting Finland at the forefront of quantum computing development, as well as in the development and use of quantum computing in Finnish society. In addition, the innovation partners are developing new hardware components for future quantum computers, as well as strengthening Finland’s unique expertise in material modelling through quantum computing. The winning tender was from IQM Quantum Computers, whose bid was an excellent match with the strategic objectives of the project, the quantum computing performance requirements, as well as schedule requirements. The joint development project now signed will deliver a 150-qubit superconducting quantum computer in mid-2026 and a 300-qubit one in late 2027. The quantum computers will be integrated into the Finnish high-performance computing infrastructure to promote hybrid computing.

BAE Systems Land and Armaments L.P., York, Pennsylvania, was awarded an undefinitized, cost-no-fee contract action not-to-exceed $423,347,466 for Self-Propelled Howitzer Systems production. Bids were solicited via the internet with one received. Work will be performed in York, Pennsylvania; Sterling Heights, Michigan; Aiken, South Carolina; Elgin, Oklahoma; and Anniston, Alabama, with an estimated completion date of July 31, 2028. Fiscal 2024 and 2025 weapons and tracked combat vehicle procurement, Army funds in the amount of $214,484,323 were obligated at the time of the award. 20 May 25. CenCore has been awarded $19m by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the U.S. Marine Corps Warfighting Lab (MCWL) to build the first of its kind mobile Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) at the TS/SCI level for the USMC’s Project 7/11. Project 7/11, a forward-operating U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) initiative, will rapidly deploy CenCore’s containerized secure units (CSUs), otherwise known as mobile SCIFs, to the battlefield. CenCore’s exclusively patented CSUs are the only 100% TS/SCI and Special Access Programs (SAP-level) American-made units in the marketplace, manufactured in Aurora, CO, and will allow the U.S. military to boost U.S. military and intelligence employment in the region. 19 May 25. Mack Defense today announced they won the contract to produce two prototype vehicles for the next phase in the Medium Tactical Truck (MTT) program with the U.S. Marine Corps. The new family of vehicles will replace the Marine Corps’ Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement fleet (MTVR), which includes cargo, dump, wrecker, tractor and re-supply trucks supporting air-ground task force combat support missions. The Marine Corps’ initial development requirements for the MTT fleet focused on cargo variants consisting of 10-, 15- and 20-foot cargo bed configurations with hybrid-electric technology for reduced fuel consumption, extended range and reduced noise for silent watch capabilities. A 70% off-road and 30% on-road mission profile will be supported by a 60-inch fording capability to traverse through deep water typically encountered during Marine Corps missions.  The prototype phase includes the development of two variants: a 4×4 configuration featuring a 10-foot cargo bed and a 6×6 configuration with a 20-foot cargo bed. The trucks share DNA with the Mack® Granite® but are specially designed to meet the specific requirements of the U.S. Marine Corps. The MTT prototypes incorporate significant technological advancements in driver safety and operational capability. These include advanced driver assistance features such as collision avoidance, blind-spot detection and vehicle dynamic control systems incorporating enhanced traction control and anti-lock brakes. The vehicles also feature hybrid-electric technology delivering improved fuel efficiency while enabling critical tactical advantages such as silent watch capabilities using extensive onboard power storage and generation and exportable power for other military systems.

 

16 May 25. Raytheon Technologies, Tucson, Arizona, is being awarded a noncompetitive firm-fixed-price contract. The total value of this contract is $1,000,000,000. Under this contract, the contractor will procure and deliver a quantity up to 55 SM-3 Block IB All-Up Rounds that are manufactured, assembled, and tested in accordance with the SM-3 Block IB specifications. The work will be performed in Tucson, Arizona and Huntsville, Alabama with an expected completion date of March 31, 2031. The period of performance is from May 16, 2025, through March 31, 2031. General Dynamics NASSCO, San Diego, California, is awarded a $198,955,270 firm-fixed-price contract action for maintenance, modernization, and repair of USS America (LHA 6) Fiscal 2026 Docking Selected Restricted Availability. This contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $209,233,949. Work will be performed in San Diego, California, and is expected to be completed by July 2027. Fiscal 2025 other procurement (Navy) funds in the amount of $181,196,632 (91%); and fiscal 2025 operations and maintenance (Navy) funds in the amount of $17,758,638 (9%), will be obligated at the time of award, of which $17,758,638 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. Raytheon, Aurora, Colorado, has been awarded a $379,779,763 contract modification (P00454) to previously awarded (FA8807-10-C-0001) for global positioning system next generation operational control system and pre-operational acceptance support and post-operational acceptance interim contractor support. This modification brings the total cumulative face value of the contract is $4,511,067,078 and the option value is $162,584,179. This modification definitizes previously awarded undefinitized change order (P00439), extending the base period from 12 to 16 months and adds an additional 12-month option period. Work will be performed at Aurora, Colorado; Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado; Vandenberg SFB, California; and other locations. The base period of performance is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026, and the option period of performance is expected is expected to be completed by March 31, 2027. York Space Systems (York), the Denver-based aerospace company dedicated to the rapid deployment of complete space mission solutions, today announced its selection by the U.S. Space Force for a $237m Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to procure small satellites supporting national security missions. The contract award is designed to enable faster and more flexible acquisition of spacecraft, integration, and launch support. An Australian law enforcement agency has selected DroneShield Ltd (ASX:DRO) to deliver advanced counter-drone solutions under a contract valued at over $1m, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public safety and national security in the face of evolving unmanned aerial threats. This strategic procurement forms part of a broader initiative to modernise law enforcement tools and mitigate the growing risks posed by unauthorised drone activity across Australian skies. The increasing accessibility of drones—and their use in surveillance, disruption, and potential attacks—demands fast, intelligent, and reliable responses.

21 May 25. Elbit Systems has secured a contract, worth $55m (NIS195m), to deliver advanced protection systems for the Israeli Air Force’s (IAF) Black Hawk and Apache combat helicopters. The contract has been awarded by the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD), via its Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) and in partnership with the IAF. IMOD R&D Department DDR&D head brigade general Yehuda Elmakayes said: “We are advancing cutting-edge technologies for aerial platform protection, focusing on DIRCM systems for the IAF helicopter fleet. 21 May 25. Malaysian aviation company Weststar Aviation Group (Weststar) has entered into ‘sale and purchase agreements’ with Leonardo SpA to supply the Malaysian Armed Forces and government bodies with 28 new helicopters within three years. The agreement, which was announced during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) Exhibition 2025 on 20 May, launches the “most significant government helicopter fleet expansion and modernisation programme” for Leonardo in Malaysia, the company said in a press statement. Within the framework of the programme, Weststar “foresees” the delivery of up to 28 helicopters “of various types, in a mix of firm orders and options”, Leonardo said, adding that most of the helicopters will be provided to the Malaysian military and government between 2026 and 2027. The arrangement is intended to meet a “range of [Malaysian] national requirements for defence, security, and the support of communities”. According to Weststar, the supply of the helicopters “is in line with the concession agreement signed between Weststar Aviation Sdn Bhd and the government of Malaysia in November 2024”. Neither Leonardo nor Weststar has commented on the value of the leasing agreements. However, Malaysian government officials have said in November 2024 and in early 2025 that the lease arrangement would have a value of MYR16.5m (USD3.8m). (Source: Janes)

23 May 25. Australia announced $16.5m in grants for 50 Australian businesses, aimed at strengthening the nation’s defence manufacturing capability, workforce skills and security readiness. In the first round of the Defence Industry Development Grants program, 58 grants have been distributed across four key streams: sovereign industrial priorities, exports, skilling and security.
