21 Apr 25. Indra has won a contract to upgrade the United Kingdom’s air surveillance network with new state-of-the-art radars. NATS, the country’s air navigation service provider, has awarded Indra this contract, which will incorporate cutting-edge design and technology to cut down on CO2 emissions. Indra will deploy a total of 19 radars in the different locations, each will be equipped with a primary PSR3D and a secondary MSSR radar. Indra will also upgrade the systems of the primary radar currently in operation, previously installed by the company at Lowther Hill, and complement it with an MSSR, in such a way that NATS will have 10 identical sites to standardize its maintenance work. The project includes manufacturing, installing, supporting and maintaining the radars for around 20 years. Indra’s radars comply with the highest technical and safety standards, and they are designed to be managed remotely, a sustainable approach that cuts down on the carbon footprint while optimizing energy consumption by reusing the necessary facilities and improving the efficiency of the buildings where they have been set up. This will be possible thanks to Indra’s control and monitoring system, which will facilitate the maintenance of the radars once they enter operation. (Source: ASD Network)

22 Apr 25. Modini Gets UK MOD £4.5m Precision Strike Drone Contract. The UK Ministry of Defence has formally awarded a £4.5m contract to Modini Limited for the delivery of One Way Effector (OWE) systems under a two-year, single-source arrangement intended to support Project ASGARD and upcoming operational deployments. According to the contract award notice published on 17 April 2025, the agreement was concluded on 20 February 2025, with delivery timelines aligning to the MOD’s requirement for operational readiness ahead of Operation CABRIT in summer 2025. 24 Apr 25.  MASS, part of the Cohort plc Group, has signed a contract with Hadean, a leader in AI and spatial computing technology. The partnership will support the Joint Command and Staff Training (JCAST) programme for the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) UK Strategic Command, providing a simulated and immersive exercise design, preparation, delivery and analysis support capability for combined joint task force exercises. The JCAST programme delivers comprehensive support to the Integrated Warfare Centre in Strategic Command and other elements of MOD. It will continue to provide a complete operational-level exercise design, preparation, delivery and analysis support capability helping to ensure that the UK’s Operational Headquarters are prepared for the full spectrum of potential deployments, ranging from humanitarian assistance and disaster relief responses to non-combatant evacuations and combat operations. Combining MASS’ expertise in planning and delivering large scale training exercises with Hadean’s AI-assisted crisis scenario generation, UK Strategic Command personnel will train in a simulated setting which reflects today’s evolving operational challenges. The training environment will be augmented with additional “layers” of realism such as civilian behaviour and attitudes, as well as the evolving role of social media.

24 Apr 25. Ireland – FGM-148 Javelin Missiles and Lightweight Command Launch Units. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Ireland of FGM-148 Javelin Missiles and Lightweight Command Launch Units and related elements of logistics and program support for an estimated cost of $46m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of Ireland has requested to buy thirty-six (36) Lightweight Command Launch Units (LwCLUs) that will be added to a previously implemented case whose value was under the congressional notification threshold. The original Foreign Military Sales (FMS) case, valued at $8.7m ($7.9m in MDE), included forty-four (44) FGM-148 Javelin missiles. This notification is for a combined total of forty-four (44) FGM-148 Javelin missiles and thirty-six (36) Lightweight Command Launch Units (LwCLUs). The following non-MDE items will also be included: missile containers; U.S. Government technical assistance; Enhanced Producibility Basic Skills Trainers (EPBST); training; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $46 m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security and capabilities of Ireland to support its participation in peacekeeping missions with the United Nations and NATO’s Partnership for Peace program. The proposed sale will enhance Ireland’s capability to build its long-term defense capacity to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity to meet its national defense requirements. Ireland will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The prime contractors will be the Javelin Joint Venture between Lockheed Martin, located in Orlando, FL, and RTX Corporation, located in Tucson, AZ. At this time, the U.S. Government is not aware of any offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale. 24 Apr 25. Oshkosh Defense Europe B.V. together with Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation [NYSE: OSK] business, announced today that it has been selected by the Netherlands Ministry of Defence to produce 150 Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicles (DXPV), a JLTV variant tailored to fulfill the requirements for its Future Littoral All Terrain Mobility – Patrol Vehicle (FLATM-PV). The Oshkosh DXPV offers the Dutch Marines the world’s most advanced light military vehicle, delivering next-generation levels of off-road mobility, speed, transportability, and seamless operational and logistical interoperability with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies. Oshkosh Defense continues to be the only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) able to supply the JLTV directly to allied countries. With this award, the Netherlands joins the United States, Lithuania, Slovenia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Mongolia, Latvia, Slovakia, Brazil, Romania, and Israel in operating the Oshkosh platform.

AeroVironment (AV), a global leader in intelligent, multi-domain autonomous systems, today announced it has been awarded a $46.6m contract by the Italian Ministry of Defence (MOD) for the delivery of its JUMP® 20 vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) medium uncrewed aircraft system (MUAS). The five-year contract encompasses the procurement of JUMP 20 air vehicles, engineering services, initial sustainment and onsite technical support – ensuring rapid fielding and operational readiness from day one. JUMP 20 is a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), fixed-wing UAS with 30 pounds of payload capacity, 13+ hours of endurance and an operational range of 185 km (115 mi). Purpose-built for expeditionary operations, the system can be stored and transported with ease and autonomously launched and recovered without personnel intervention, making it ideal for dynamic on-the-move operations. Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN) a leading provider of application-specific optical systems and high-performance microdisplays for defense, training, enterprise, industrial, consumer and medical products, today announced it has secured a multi-year contract, totaling $7.5m, to supply microdisplays for pilot Helmet Mounted Display Systems, that provide augmented reality (AR) capability. This order adds to the $6m in orders for pilot helmet displays received in 2025, bringing the total to $13.5m year-to-date. General Dynamics NASSCO – Norfolk, Norfolk, Virginia, is awarded a $127,247,319 firm-fixed-price contract for maintenance, modernization and repair of USS Oak Hill (LSD 51) Fiscal 2025 Docking Selected Restricted Availability. The scope of this acquisition includes all labor, supervision, equipment, production, testing, facilities, and quality assurance necessary to prepare for and accomplish the Chief of Naval Operations Availability for critical modernization, maintenance, and repair programs. This contract includes options, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $138,724,205. Work will be performed in Norfolk, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by April 2027. Fiscal 2025 other procurement (Navy) funds in the amount of $126,320,130 (99.3%); and fiscal 2025 operations and maintenance (Navy) funds in the amount of $927,189 (0.7%), will be obligated at the time of award, of which $927,189 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured using full and open competition via the System for Award Management website, with two offers received. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity (N0002425C4400).

Lockheed Martin Corp., Sunnyvale, California (N66001-25-D-0030); Northrop Grumman Systems Corp., Boulder, Colorado (N66001-25-D-0031); and Peraton Inc., Herndon, Virginia (N66001-25-D-0032), are awarded a combined $244,174,056 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, multiple award contract with cost-plus-fixed-fee, cost-with-no-fee, and firm-fixed pricing for the development of the U.S. Space Command’s (SSC’s) Relay Ground Station (RGS). The RGS will enable the SSC Next Generation Space Based Infrared Systems (SBIRS) Ground System to operate the SBIRS Geosynchronous (GEO) space vehicles. This effort requires the design, procurement, development, integration, and testing of advanced RGS hardware and software capabilities to provide uplink and downlink capability to the SBIRS GEO, Defense Support Program, Next Generation GEO, and Next Generation Polar space vehicles. Work will be performed in various contractor facilities (75%); the United Kingdom (10%); Colorado Springs, Colorado (10%); and Guam (5%). Work is expected to be completed in April 2030. Awardees will have the opportunity to compete for task orders during the ordering period. No funds will be obligated at the time of award. Funds will be obligated as task orders and will be issued using research, development, test and evaluation funds. This contract was competitively procured via the SAM.gov website and the Naval Information Warfare Systems Command E-Commerce Central website, with three offers received. Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific, San Diego, California, is the contracting activity (N66001-23-R-0030).

 

21 Apr 25. Lockheed Martin Corp., Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., Fort Worth, Texas, is awarded a not-to-exceed $180,000,000 undefinitized cost modification (P00012) to a previously awarded contract (N0001923C0003). This modification adds scope to procure materials, parts, and components in support of the conversion of three production F-35 aircraft to flight science replacement aircraft. The new flight science aircraft are required to prevent any increase in the test capability gap, and allow for future, holistic flight science testing of block four capabilities for the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, non-U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) program partners, and Foreign Military Sales customer. Work will be performed in Fort Worth, Texas (30%); El Segundo, California (25%); Warton, United Kingdom (20%); Orlando, Florida (10%); Nashua, New Hampshire (5%); Grenaa, Denmark (5%); and Baltimore, Maryland (5%), and is expected to be completed in December 2028. Fiscal 2025 research, development, test and evaluation (Air Force) funds in the amount of $3,587,440; fiscal 2025 research, development, test and evaluation (Navy) funds in the amount of $3,587,440; and non-U.S. DOD program partner funds in the amount of $8,772,866 will be obligated at the time of award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The contract action was not competed. Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.

24 Apr 25. Westek Technology, subsidiary of MilDef, continues growth with a contract award for deliveries of rugged IT equipment to a global and mission critical defense platform from a global, Tier 1 defense and security company. This marks the single largest order so far for Westek and deliveries will take place in 2026. Order value is SEK 45m and further contracts into the program are expected to follow in 2025 and beyond. Westek Technology, part of MilDef Group since the acquisition of roda Computers GmbH in March 2025, has now signed a pivotal contract extension for rugged servers, with its long-time partner on the global defense stage. Westeks rugged products are designed and manufactured to operate reliably in the harshest of environments and include computer servers, workstations, integrated systems and peripherals.

22 Apr 25. Korean Air wins tender to upgrade UH-60P helicopters. Korean Air has announced that its Aerospace Division (KAL-ASD) has been selected as the “preferred bidder” to upgrade Lockheed Martin (Sikorsky) UH-60P Black Hawk helicopters in service with the Republic of Korea (RoK) Armed Forces. In a statement on 23 April, Korean Air said that it participated in the bid as part of a consortium with LIG Nex1 and Collins Aerospace. The company added that it was notified of its selection by South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA). The upgrade programme, which is valued at KRW961.3 bn (USD675 m), also received a bid from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) in collaboration with Hanwha Systems and Elbit Systems. The RoK Army has 103 UH-60Ps in service, plus four specialist HH-60P Pave Hawks, which are modified UH-60Ps and used in the combat search-and-rescue (CSAR) role. The RoK Air Force (RoKAF) operates 25 HH-60P Pave Hawks. The RoK Navy (RoKN) operates 10 UH-60Ps. DAPA has previously told Janes that the upgrades will be applied to helicopters in service with special forces. According to Korean Air, the upgrade covers “digital cockpit upgrades and implementing comprehensive performance improvements covering engines, survivability systems, communication suites, integrated depot maintenance, and force integration support elements”. “Korean Air will enter into detailed negotiations with DAPA regarding technical specifications and contract terms before finalising the agreement,” the company added.
