10 Apr 25. Babcock awarded Capability Insertion Period contract by UK MOD for Type 31 frigates. Babcock International Group (Babcock) has been awarded a c.£65m, five-ship contract to deliver the Capability Insertion Period (CIP) for the UK Royal Navy’s (RN) Type 31 frigates being built by the company at its Rosyth facility in Scotland. The CIP adds crucial capabilities that will support the ships throughout their life and includes the insertion, testing and enhancement of a number of upgrades that will enhance the Type 31’s military capability. The activities will take place at Babcock’s facility in Rosyth, utilising the expertise and experience of the skilled team.

JFD, a James Fisher & Sons plc company, specialising in world leading underwater services for commercial and defence markets, has been awarded an eight year, £11m service contract to continue and expand its services to the Ministry of Defence (MoD). The partnership will ensure long-term availability of Royal Navy subsea capabilities. The contract involves a thorough assessment of the current in-service Transportable Manned Compression Chambers (TMCCs), upgrades and modifications for safety and efficiency, certification and compliance for military and international diving standards, ongoing training, and regular preventative and corrective maintenance schedules. TMCCs are a transportable therapeutic compression chamber used for medically treating divers with decompression illness and for planned surface or unplanned omitted decompression. Having a fully certified and capable transportable compression chamber supported by a robust in-service support package is crucial for maintaining operational readiness of a military dive team. 10 Apr 25. Thales – Britain awards £100m for new minehunting command centres. The Ministry of Defence has confirmed a £100m contract award to Thales UK Limited for the integration and supply of up to eight Remote Command Centres (RCCs) as part of its expanding Mine Hunting Capability (MHC) programme. According to the published Voluntary Transparency Notice (VTN), the award is made under the negotiated procedure without prior publication of a contract notice, justified on the grounds that “there is a strict technical impracticality for a supplier other than Thales to achieve the Authority’s technical requirements as it is necessary to use specific knowledge, tools or means which only Thales currently has at its disposal.” The new RCCs are designed to serve as integrated command hubs for Royal Navy mine countermeasure operations. The MoD states the contract covers “the requirement to integrate the currently disparate and separately controlled range of key MHC platforms and autonomous capabilities into the Thales MMCM RCC to deliver a single, unified RCC.” This will allow for “integrated command, control and operation of the full range of MHC platforms, systems and sub-systems.” The contract also includes “the provision of associated software, training and SME technical advice in support of the integration activities and wider MHC capability delivery,” and has renewal options for three additional 12-month periods. 09 Apr 25. Axon Vision and CSG Form Strategic Partnership to Modernize Czech Armored Vehicles, Securing Initial Order for AI-Powered Situational Awareness Systems. Axon Vision iannounced a strategic partnership with Czechoslovak Group (CSG) from the Czech Republic, one of the largest defense companies in Europe. The collaboration and initial order, led within CSG by its subsidiary Retia, a renowned provider of defense technology, marks the first step in a broader partnership to modernize European armored vehicle fleets and pursue various opportunities in the region. Retia closely cooperates with Tatra Defense Vehicle (TDV), which is a manufacturer of various types of armored vehicles, including the PANDUR 8×8 EVO.
09 Apr 25. Elbit Systems Ltd. has been awarded a contract worth approximately $100m to supply its advanced UT30 MK2 unmanned turret systems to General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS). The systems will be installed on the ASCOD armored fighting vehicles and supplied to a NATO European country. Under the contract, which is to be executed until the end of 2027, the company will supply its UT30 MK2 unmanned turret, equipped with gunner and Commander sights, as well as Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) and Level 4 protection. The turrets will be produced with the industrial cooperation of local companies, supporting a secure supply chain and local support capabilities. The UT30 MK2 is a configurable manned and unmanned turret that enhances the firepower of armored personnel carriers (APCs) without compromising troop safety. Its modular design and open architecture allow for both unmanned and manned turret configurations, with easy conversion between the two and integration of various missiles and sights. Featuring a very low profile, the UT30MK2 integrates a wide array of weapon systems, including a 30mm main gun, a coaxial 7.62mm, and ATGMs. It also includes a protection suite with various levels of protection, the Iron Fist Active Protection System, and other countermeasures. These are integrated with advanced electro-optic systems—all developed in-house—to provide reliable, high-performance firepower on the battlefield.
07 Apr 25. Hanwha Aerospace and HSW S.A. has signed a contract over the supply of chassis components for 87 Krab Self-Propelled Howitzers, setting a new benchmark in a decade-long partnership between the two major industries. Under the contract valued around USD 280m, Hanwha Aerospace will supply Krab components between 2026 and 2028. The contract also includes the supply of powerpacks for the SPH Krab, a key artillery capability operated by the Polish Armed Forces. The Krab is a 155mm/52-calibre SPH designed and manufactured in Poland by HSW S.A. in cooperation with Hanwha.
04 Apr 25. Saab has received an order for the Universal Tank and Anti-Aircraft System (UTAAS) sight- and fire control system for Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90) from BAE Systems Hägglunds. The order amounts to SEK 880m and was booked in the first quarter 2025. Saab has, in collaboration with partners, established production in Europe to meet the growing demand for UTAAS. 07 Apr 25. Thales – The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) signed an agreement with Thales for the delivery of the Thales Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission Compact radar (GM200 MM/C). Building on strong international NATO cooperation, the agreement will contribute to maintaining Swedish airspace sovereignty. Thanks to Thales’s strong industrial ramp-up programme and ability to produce in short lead times, the first deliveries are scheduled for 2026. The GM200 MM/C medium range radar will contribute to strengthening the recognised air picture for the Swedish Armed Forces. 09 Apr 25. Poland’s Nitro-Chem signs $310m deal to supply TNT for US military. Polish explosives maker Nitro-Chem signed a deal on Wednesday to supply explosives worth 1.2bn zlotys ($310m) to a U.S. firm, intended for the U.S. military, the deputy defence minister said. From 2027 to 2029, TNT, or trinitrotoluene, will be supplied to U.S. firm Paramount Enterprises International by Nitro-Chem, a subsidiary of Poland’s state-owned defence group PGZ, group spokesperson Jacek Matuszak told Reuters. The deal is bigger than deals both companies signed in 2023 and 2024 for deliveries of TNT to supply U.S. government weapons programs in 2025 and 2025 respectively and intended for tasks such as the filling of artillery shells and aerial bombs. Teledyne FLIR Defense, part of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY), announced it has been awarded a four year, $74.2m contract by the U.S. Army for continued development of the next-generation mounted reconnaissance capability for the M1135 Stryker’s Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle (NBCRV) Sensor Suite Upgrade Program. Teledyne FLIR is lead integrator in modernizing the NBCRV sensor suite system with an improved and autonomous suite of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) sensors. Among other third-party solutions, the Sensor Suite features the FLIR Defense R80D SkyRaider™ drone integrated with FLIR’s MUVE™ B330 biological detection payload designed for small unmanned aerial systems. 07 Apr 25. GKN Aerospace has announced the signing of a new three-year contract with Boeing to provide fan blade repair services for the C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft. Ashot Ashkelon Industries – The Israeli Ministry of Defense (MoD) has secured a multi-million-dollar deal for Merkava main battle tank (MBT) and Namer armoured personnel carrier (APC) components with Ashot Ashkelon Industries, with the parts due to be supplied over the coming five-year period. Announcing the deal in a social media post on 9 April 2025, the Israeli MoD said under the terms of the agreement, critical systems, including 1,500 and 1,200 horsepower transmissions, suspensions, and powertrains, for the Namer APC and Merkava MBT would be provided at a cost of around $26m. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Kuwait of the Upgrade and Recertification of PATRIOT Missiles and related equipment for an estimated cost of $400m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of Kuwait has requested to buy equipment and services required to upgrade and recertify PATRIOT PAC-2 Guidance Enhancement Missiles (GEM) and recertify PATRIOT Guidance Enhancement Missiles-Tactical (GEM-T). The following non-MDE items will be included: sustainment maintenance; special tools, support, and test equipment; repair parts; modification kits; common tools; shop equipment and fixtures; material handling equipment; test support; stockpile reliability testing and inspection; repair and return support; spare parts; training; replacement materials; support from field service representatives, technicians, mechanics, and other support personnel; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $400m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a major non-NATO ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East. The proposed sale will improve Kuwait’s capability to meet current and future threats by assisting in maintaining higher levels of operational readiness while meeting its modernization and professionalization plans. Kuwait will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. This acquisition, announced during the Committee of Supply Debate, follows earlier procurements of 12 F-35B variants, solidifying the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) future inventory of 20 fifth-generation fighters by the end of this decade. 10 Apr 25. RTX – DoD/DSCA Notifies Congress of Possible FMS of AIM-120C and AIM-120D Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles to Australia
The U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress that the Government of Australia has requested to buy up to two hundred (200) AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM); and up to two hundred (200) AIM-120D-3 AMRAAMs. The following non-MDE items will be included: AMRAAM containers and support equipment; spare parts, consumables and accessories, repair and return support; weapons system support and software; classified software delivery and support; classified publications and technical documentation; transportation support; studies and surveys; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $1.04bn. The principal contractor will be RTX Corporation, located in Tucson, AZ. At this time, the U.S. Government is not aware of any offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale.
