26 Mar 25.  Babcock International Group (Babcock), the defence company, has secured a five-year contract extension worth around £1.0bn with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD). As a strategic partner to the UK MOD, this contract award further underpins Babcock’s commitment and long-term relationship with the British Army. Specialising in building new vehicles, supporting its fleet, and training its soldiers, Babcock plays a crucial role in ensuring operational readiness for the British Army. The transformation of the original contract (DSG) over the first 10 years will be further accelerated over the extension period directly supporting the delivery of the Defence Industrial Strategy, delivering significant value to the MOD and growth to the UK economy. The extension to the existing DSG Service Provision and Transformation Contract (SPTC) will deliver a comprehensive range of support capabilities for the Army in the UK with global reach. Through the course of the extension Babcock will deliver improved readiness, regeneration and asset management services underpinned by extensive engineering and supply chain expertise. This will maximise the availability of critical army equipment whilst delivering increased value for money and better outcomes for both partners. A comprehensive transformation programme will deliver a step change in support outputs, thereby setting the foundation for the army modernisation programme in the coming decades. In collaboration with the MOD, who have committed to investment in facilities and equipment, Babcock will continue to invest in its workforce of 1,600 highly skilled people across more than 20 sites throughout the UK, including skills development and a robust apprentice scheme dedicated to nurturing talent and building expertise.

AV, through its wholly owned subsidiary Telerob, has been awarded a significant contract to deliver 41 large-sized advanced EOD/IED uncrewed ground vehicles (UGV) to the German Federal Armed Forces. Initial deliveries are scheduled for summer 2025, with additional orders extending through 2027. Following a rigorous competitive procurement process, the telemax™ HT300 UGV was selected to meet the German Armed Forces’ evolving requirements for explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and counter-IED missions. Purpose-built for high-risk operations in complex terrain, the HT300 offers an advanced manipulator arm, exceptional traction, and mobility across uneven, unstable, and shifting surfaces. 27 Mar 25. Bulgaria’s parliament on Wednesday approved an $82.7m purchase of Javelin anti-tank guided missiles from the United States to modernise the country’s army and protect its territorial integrity, BTA news agency reported. In September, the U.S. State Department approved the possible sale of Javelin FGM-148F missiles and related equipment to Bulgaria for $114m. The purchase will provide the missiles necessary for the Stryker fighting vehicles that Bulgaria had agreed to obtain from the U.S. for $1.5bn in 2023, lawmakers said. (Source: Reuters)

 

24 Mar 25. Finland procures 155 mm artillery and 7.62 mm small-arms ammunition. Finnish Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has authorised the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) to order 155 mm artillery and 7.62 mm small-arms ammunition from Nammo Lapua. The Finnish Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on its website on 20 March that the FDF is procuring 155 mm artillery rounds worth EUR79 m (USD85.5 m) from Nammo Lapua for K 83-97 and K 98 towed howitzers, as well as for K9 self-propelled howitzers (SPHs). The Finnish MoD said on its website on 14 March that the small-arms ammunition order from Nammo Lapua would be for 7.62 RK 62 and 7.62 KIV weapons worth EUR180 m, with deliveries planned for 2025–28. 26 Mar 25. Thales reorganises its support capabilities to enhance mission readiness of the French Army in high-intensity conflicts

* The French defence ministry’s integrated structure for through-life support of land forces equipment (SIMMT1) has awarded Thales the ABSOLU2 operational support and logistics contract.

* In terms of its scale and format, the ten-year contract is the first of its kind for the French armed forces and will ultimately consolidate some 30 separate support contracts for land-based equipment in service with the French Army, Navy and Air & Space Force.

* This flagship agreement addresses the need to prepare the forces for high-intensity conflicts, while helping to promote sustainable resource management.

ABSOLU will consolidate some 30 separate maintenance contracts into a single agreement to simplify contract management and significantly improve operational performance. Its shared project management model will shorten repair turnaround times to increase equipment availability, as well as expanding the re-use of components and raw materials to support the development of a circular economy. Under the terms of this single framework contract for maintenance services, Thales also undertakes to double its equipment handling capacity in the event of a high-intensity conflict. Until now, SIMMT has awarded a separate maintenance contract for each platform.

21 Mar 25. Netherlands upgrades and procures more Puma UASs. The Netherlands is upgrading its Puma All Environment (AE) small unmanned aircraft systems (UASs) and procuring larger Puma Long Endurance (LE) UASs, the Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on its website on 19 March. The contract was signed with US company AeroVironment in Utrecht, the Netherlands, earlier the same day. Dutch Puma AE block II UASs will be upgraded to block III standard, which the MoD said can operate in areas in which global navigation satellite services are denied. Other capabilities will be improved and the UAS will receive a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) kit. Planning calls for the upgraded UASs to be delivered in 2025 and to be operational at the squad and platoon levels later in the year and at the company level probably in 2026, according to the Dutch MoD. The Netherlands will also receive Puma LE UASs with a longer range than the Puma AE. The Dutch MoD noted that Puma is used mainly for reconnaissance and that the small UAS collects detailed up-to-date information during operations, improving situational awareness of large areas and providing early warning of dangerous situations such as blocked routes or suspect vehicles. The UASs can also be used for civilian tasks, the Dutch MoD said. Puma can be operated by individual infantry soldiers and from Fennek armoured reconnaissance vehicles, with the ministry aiming for all reconnaissance units to be equipped with the UAS. The Puma upgrade is part of a wider Royal Netherlands Army plan to increase UAS capabilities, which the Dutch MoD expects to contribute to the service’s modernisation and improved effectiveness. United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has awarded Anduril a three-year, $86,000,000 contract to accelerate the development and deployment of mission autonomy software to multi-domain uncrewed systems in support of USSOCOM missions. To achieve the benefits of affordable enterprise capability, operators must be able to task teams of diverse, multi-domain autonomous systems to work together and execute a given mission. This requires mission autonomy software capable of integrating and coordinating multiple vehicles’ control systems, sensors, weapons, and other payloads to synchronize effects on the battlefield. Anduril has developed robust software development, testing, integration, and deployment infrastructure that now sits within Lattice for Mission Autonomy, Anduril’s hardware-agnostic, end-to-end software platform that allows human operators to interact and fight with teams of diverse autonomous systems. As the Mission Autonomy Systems Integration Partner (SIP), Anduril will support USSOCOM in developing their infrastructure, enabling them to integrate, test, validate, and deploy government-owned and commercial mission autonomy software and enabling technology across their robotic platforms. The infrastructure will cover the entire software development lifecycle, including data export and management, data model and interface validation, and system-level verification and validation (V&V), establishing a reliable, interoperable, and trusted foundation for SOCOM to rapidly and continuously integrate collaborative teams of autonomous systems into their operations. In addition to providing support for the development infrastructure, Anduril will prove out the resulting software across a series of capability demonstrations and integration events over the next several months in advance of operational fielding. 26 Mar 25. Cubic Defense has been awarded a ten-year multiple award IDIQ contract to support U.S. Army Program Executive Officer (PEO) Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (STRI) TESS programs. The dual-lot program provides engineering and manufacturing for fielded and new TESS systems, supporting home-station training, the Combat Training Centers (CTC), and Foreign Military Sales (FMS). Under Lot 1, Cubic will compete for Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) systems engineering and manufacturing for deployed U.S. Army TESS systems. Under Lot 2, Cubic will compete on the procurement of new TESS systems to aid in the modernization of U.S. Army force structure as the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for the Individual Weapon System (IWS) and Tactical Vehicle Systems (TVS) programs of record. Additionally, Lot 2 delivery orders will address FMS and Interim Contractor Support Services requirements globally for deployed TESS systems. Cubic is the prime contractor on active FMS and Foreign Military Funds (FMF) TESS programs worldwide.

 

21 Mar 25. Heil Trailer International LLC, Athens, Tennessee, was awarded a $588,594,137 hybrid (firm-fixed-price and fixed-price with economic price adjustment) contract for the Tactical Fuel Distribution System. Bids were solicited via the internet with three received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of March 21, 2030. 25 Mar 25. HII (NYSE: HII) announced today that its Mission Technologies division was selected to develop an open architecture High-Energy Laser (HEL) weapon system for the U.S. Army’s Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO). HII will develop and test a HEL prototype to acquire, track and destroy Groups 1-3 Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) used in multi-domain operations. 26 Mar 25. Leonardo DRS, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRS) announced today that it has received a prototype project award by the U.S. Army to modernize the Paladin Electric Servo Amplifier (PESA) electric weapon control system for the M109A7 Paladin self-propelled howitzer.  The OTA award is worth $16.9m. The PESA is a critical technology to the operation of the M109A7. Under the project award Leonardo DRS will develop a next-generation prototype with current electrical technology to improve the producibility and maintainability of the line replaceable units and enable the continued operation of the vehicle with no degradation to current capabilities.

The technology has potential applications across a variety of mission environments, including the DHS Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency. Due to the limitations of flying larger UAS in the National Airspace System (NAS), the project sought to identify small UAS (sUAS) with onboard sensors that meet Federal Aviation Administration guidelines for safe Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations. Enabling smaller UAS (Group III and below) to operate safely in the NAS with BVLOS capabilities significantly enhances their ability to conduct comprehensive monitoring of secure, often large and remote locations. Due to its compact size and powerful detection capabilities, MatrixSpace Radar was selected as the onboard sensor, supporting BVLOS Detect and Avoid (DAA) operations.

Raytheon, an RTX (NYSE: RTX) business, has been awarded a follow-on contract from the U.S. Army Futures Command, Futures and Concepts Center to continue to utilize its Rapid Campaign Analysis and Demonstration Environment, or RCADE, modeling and simulation capability. During the initial contract, Raytheon developed large-scale theater scenarios to assess concepts of operations in a multi-domain conflict. The PSC’s mission will be to ensure continued access to both polar regions and support the country’s economic, commercial, maritime, and National security needs. Bell Boeing Joint Program Office, Amarillo, Texas, is awarded a $590,000,000 fixed-price incentive (firm-target) undefinitized modification (P00080) to a previously awarded contract (N0001917C0015). This modification adds scope for the production and delivery of five CMV-22B aircraft for the Navy. Work will be performed in Fort Worth, Texas (30.08%); Ridley Park, Pennsylvania (15.22%); Amarillo, Texas (12.73%);Red Oak, Texas (3.33%); East Aurora, New York (2.55%); Park City, Utah (2.20%); McKinney, Texas (1.33%); Endicott, New York (1.15%); various other locations within the continental U.S. (27.49%); and various other locations outside of the continental U.S. (3.92%), and is expected to be completed in January 2028. 27 Mar 25. U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC) awarded Boeing [NYSE: BA] a $240 million contract to remanufacture five MH-47G Block II Chinook aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027. The award follows USASOAC’s acquisition of four MH-47G Block II aircraft in 2024. With this award, the Army now has a total of 51 MH-47G Block II aircraft under contract. Boeing anticipates completing the entirety of the USASOAC Chinook fleet in early 2030.

 

21 Mar 25. NAVAIR contracts Lockheed Martin to integrate AGM-158C LRASM onto USAF F-16s. US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) intends to award Lockheed Martin a contract to integrate its AGM-158C Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) onto F-16s, according to a 17 March notification. Testing is set to begin later in 2025, NAVAIR told Janes on 20 March, focusing on integrating the AGM-158C-1. The C-1 version entered service in 2018, and subsequent versions – AGM-158C-3 and LRASM-XR – have added range and seeker capabilities. Lockheed Martin manufactures both the aircraft and the missile; although the US Navy does not operate F-16s, NAVAIR manages the LRASM programme on behalf of all US Department of Defense branches. US Air Force (USAF) F-16s can already employ the AGM-158B Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM), which preceded LRASM into service and incorporates the same 4.26 m-long low-observable missile body, Williams International F107 turbofan engine, and 453.6 kg penetration warhead, with the addition of a datalink and specialised maritime seeker. The F-16 is the latest in a series of aircraft to be integrated with LRASM. The missile is operationally employed by the navy’s F/A-18E/F and USAF’s B-1B. Integration testing is ongoing aboard the P-8A, F-35B, and F-35C (integration with the F-35A is planned); a similar notice of NAVAIR’s intent to integrate LRASM onto the F-15E and F-15EX was released in January. Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, Orlando, Florida, has been awarded a $208,119,025 modification (P00012) to a previously awarded contract (FA8682-23-C-B005) for air guided missile-158D development, test, and integration efforts. Work will be performed in Orlando, Florida, and is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2027. Fiscal 2025 research, development, test and evaluation funds in the amount of $10,500,000 are being obligated at time of award. Rocket Lab National Security LLC, Long Beach, California (FA8811-25-D-B007); and Stoke Space Technologies Inc., Kent, Washington (FA8811-25-D-B006), have been awarded a multiple-award, firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with a maximum cumulative ceiling of $5,600,000,000 for the National Security Space (NSS) Launch Phase Three Lane One fiscal 2025 on-ramp. The contract is for launch services delivering NSS payloads into their intended orbits. The location of performance will be determined at the task order level. The contract will include a four-year, two-month ordering period, which will go through June 2029, with an option for an additional ordering period of five years. This award is the result of a competitive acquisition; the solicitation was posted to SAM.gov and three offers were received. Fiscal 2025 space procurement funds in the amount of $10,000,000 (the cumulative amount for the minimum guarantee) are being obligated at the time of award. 26 Mar 25. Malaysia has signed a Letter of Acceptance to procure a Multi-Purpose Mission Ship (MPMS) from Turkish shipbuilder Desan, according to a government announcement. Worth $68.8m, the MPMS will be “an important asset in enhancing Malaysia’s maritime enforcement capabilities,” Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs Secretary-General Datuk Awang Alik bin Jeman said, according to an online translation. The signing ceremony took place Friday at Desan shipyard in Ankara during a Malaysian delegation visit to Turkey. The ship is 99 meters long and is capable of operating continuously for 30 days, according to the announcement. It also has “four fast interceptor boats (FIC), two unmanned aerial drones (UAVs), a helicopter landing deck, medical facilities and a detention centre” Director-General of the Malaysian Maritime Administration, Maritime Adm. 21 Mar 25.  RTX – Australia announced a major enhancement to the Royal Australian Navy’s submarine capabilities, committing $200m to acquire additional state-of-the-art MK-48 heavyweight torpedoes from the United States. The acquisition will significantly strengthen both the defensive and offensive capabilities of Australia’s Collins Class submarines, as well as its future nuclear-powered fleet. The MK-48 torpedoes are designed for both anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, ensuring the RAN maintains a cutting-edge deterrence capability in an increasingly complex security environment. The MK-48 torpedo is developed as part of a long-standing joint program between Australia and the United States. 21 Mar 25.  BAE Systems – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Advanced Precision Kill Weapon. The State Department has made a determination approving Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems (APKWS) II All-Up-Round and related elements of logistics and program support for an estimated cost of $100m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has requested to buy two thousand (2,000) Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems (APKWS). The following non-MDE items will be included: APKWS spare parts; support equipment; missile software; training; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $100m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political stability and economic progress in the Gulf Region. The proposed sale will improve the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s capability to meet current and future threats and give it the ability to precisely engage targets with much less risk of collateral damage than other guided missile systems. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The principal contractor will be BAE Systems, Inc., located in Falls Church, VA. At this time, the U.S. Government is not aware of any offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale. Any offset agreement will be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and the contractor. Implementation of this proposed sale will require the assignment of up to two additional U.S. Government and up to two contractor representatives annually to Saudi Arabia for a duration of one week for program technical support and management oversight. 26 Mar 25.  GA – Qatar – MQ-9B Remotely Piloted Aircraft. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Qatar of the MQ-9B Remotely Piloted Aircraft and related equipment for an estimated cost of $1.96bn. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of Qatar has requested to buy eight (8) MQ-9B Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA); two hundred (200) KMU-572 Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) tail kits for Guided Bomb Unit (GBU)-38 or Laser JDAM GBU-54; three hundred (300) BLU-111 500-lb general purpose bombs; one hundred (100) MXU-650 air foil groups (AFG) for Paveway II GBU-12; one hundred (100) MAU-169 computer control groups (CCG) for Paveway II GBU-12; twenty-eight (28) Embedded Global Positioning System (GPS)/Inertial Navigation System (INS) (EGI) security devices with M-Code; twelve (12) EGI security devices with Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Modules (SAASM); ten (10) Lynx AN/APY-8 Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR); ten (10) L3 Rio Grande communications intelligence (COMINT) sensor suites; one hundred ten (110) AGM-114R2 Hellfire II missiles; and eight (8) M36E9 Hellfire Captive Air Training Missiles (CATM). 27 Mar 25. Israel signs deal with LM Sikorsky to modify Air Force. Israel’s Defence Ministry said on Monday it signed a contract worth hundreds of millions of dollars with Lockheed Martin (LMT.N)unit Sikorsky to integrate Israeli systems into 12 CH-53K Pere helicopters that are currently under construction. The modifications, which are required by the Israeli Air Force, are part of a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) deal signed between Israel and the United States several years ago, but only made public on Monday. The ministry said that assembly of the 12 helicopters is currently underway at Sikorsky’s headquarters in Stratford, Connecticut. Sikorsky is building a separate production line to modify each aircraft from the standard U.S. Marine Corps configuration to the operational mission requirements specified by the Israeli Air Force. Lockheed Martin Corp., Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., Fort Worth, Texas, is awarded a not-to-exceed $238,000,000 undefinitized modification (P00001) to a previously awarded fixed-price incentive (firm-target) contract (N0001925C0070). This modification adds scope to procure long lead materials, parts, components, and associated support in support of the F-35 Lot 20 production aircraft for non-U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) partners and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers. Work will be performed Fort Worth, Texas (59%); El Segundo, California (14%); Warton, United Kingdom (9%); Cameri, Italy (4%); Orlando, Florida (4%); Nashua, New Hampshire (3%); Baltimore, Maryland (3%); San Diego, California (2%); and other various locations outside of the continental U.S. (2%), and is expected to be completed May 2031. FMS customer funds in the amount of $186,800,000 and non-U.S. DOD partner funds in the amount of $51,200,000 will be obligated at the time of award, none of which expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not competed. Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland, is the contracting activity.

POWERTECH, part of EDGE Group, has secured its first order to supply six-cylinder fuel-injection P145i engine, to ADASI. The engine is designed to boost efficiency and performance of uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) and light aircraft. It is expected to deliver reliability and fuel efficiency, and its integration capabilities are tailored for advanced aerial platforms. (Source: airforce-technology.com)
