12 Mar 25. Airbus Helicopters has been selected by the UK’s National Police Air Service (NPAS) to supply seven H135 helicopters as the initial phase of its fleet renewal programme. The firm order is the first output of a Framework Contract, signed with the BlueLight Commercial procurement agency, which confirms Airbus as the exclusive supplier of helicopters for NPAS for up to six years.

10 Mar 25. MASS, part of the Cohort plc Group, has been awarded a two-year extension on the Joint Command and Staff Training (JCAST) contract for UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) Strategic Command. Valued at more than £17.5m, the contract extension will begin in July 2025 and coincide with MASS celebrating over 25 years delivering JCAST training support. Through JCAST, MASS provides comprehensive training support for the Integrated Warfare Centre, part of Strategic Command, as well as other parts of the MOD. The training support package delivered by MASS provides a complete operational-level exercise design, preparation, delivery and analysis support capability. The contract also includes design and delivery of essential Pre-Employment Training for UK and international staff officers joining operational HQs, and a pan-Defence data management service.

11 Mar 25. Cuashub.com said today that Latvia initiates €10m counter-drone R&D project to bolster national defense. The Latvian Ministry of Defence has entered into three research and development (R&D) contracts aimed at enhancing counter-drone solutions. This initiative is designed to strengthen national defense capabilities and promote the growth of Latvia’s independent and competitive defense technology sector. Defence Minister Andris Sprūds emphasized the strategic priorities of these agreements, which are centered on fortifying Latvia’s short-range air defense against drones. Additionally, the contracts support the creation of European counter-drone solutions, diminishing dependence on suppliers from outside the region. The R&D contracts have been awarded to Origin Robotics, SAF Tehnika, and Frankenburg Technologies. These projects will concentrate on developing automated drone interceptors, electronic warfare solutions, and guided missile systems tailored for counter-drone operations. A fourth project is currently in the final negotiation stage and aims to modify existing National Armed Forces weapon systems for counter-drone purposes, with collaboration expected from the company WeMPS. The agreements also permit the inclusion of additional partners, such as research institutions, NATO or EU member states, and international organizations who are interested in co-developing or co-financing the efforts. The flexible structure of the contracts allows for adaptations based on technological advancements and insights gained from the war in Ukraine. Funding for the projects will come from both the Ministry of Defence and industry partners, with a 65/35 investment split—65% from the defense sector and 35% from participating companies. The total anticipated investment could reach €10m ($10.7m), with the budget potentially increasing based on future investments. To facilitate swift and secure execution, the projects will adhere to the Defence Industry Law, which permits the use of Ministry of Defence-owned facilities for testing purposes. 11 mar 25. Pearson Engineering to supply 99 engineering capability kits to Polish Main Battle Tanks via US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Office. New M1A2 SEP V3 Main Battle Tanks, set to be delivered in 2025 to the Polish Armed Forces via U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS), will be equipped with track width mine ploughs and combat dozer blades following a contract awarded to Pearson Engineering. The engineering capability will be integrated via Pearson Engineering’s innovative SLICE vehicle interface kit which is designed to enable a fighting vehicle to rapidly accept and operate a wide range of Front-End Equipment (FEE) to facilitate independent battlefield manoeuvre. SLICE does not require any modification to the vehicle based on a novel ‘Plug & Play approach’ that does not impact vehicle lethality or survivability. The contract follows news released in 2023 that a first customer had taken into service Pearson Engineering’s new SLICE enabling the interoperability of FEE between main battle tanks and dedicated engineering vehicles.

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (‘KONGSBERG’) has signed a contract to deliver the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) and associated installed equipment to Denmark in a transaction valued at NOK 2.1bn. The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) is acquiring the NSM missiles and equipment for its Iver Huitfeldt-class frigates. The accelerated acquisition process is structured as a government-to-government (G2G) sale between DALO and its Norwegian counterpart, the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (FMA). 07 Mar 25. Schiebel Camcopter S-100 UAS Selected by EDA for Cross-domain Logistics Programme. Under the Hub for European Defence Innovation (HEDI), EDA has established the “Autonomous Systems for Cross-Domain Logistics (Air and Land)” programme and selected Schiebel’s CAMCOPTER® S-100 for the heavy-lift Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Air System category. The large-scale initative, hosted by the Italian Army, will focus on collaborative experimentation of UAS and Unmanned Ground Systems (UGS). In June and July 2025, several simulated missions, e.g. last-mile resupply in hostile environments, will be demonstrated. Clavister, a leader in European cyber security for mission-critical applications, has on several occasions in recent months ordered MilDef’s hardware for customized and ruggedized network equipment intended for installation in BAE System Hägglund’s CV90 combat vehicle. In December, hardware worth SEK 30 m was ordered and now an order worth SEK 40 m is signed. The hardware is a sub-component of two products in Clavister CyberArmour, a product family of AI-based, military-adapted next-generation firewalls for defense applications. First serial delivery in early 2027. Clavister is a specialized European cybersecurity provider protecting complex digital businesses. In the current projects, MilDef has customized hardware according to the customer’s needs. MilDef’s deliveries are part of Clavister’s supply to the CV90 platform.

Under the AM-2 task award, KBR will fabricate, design, assemble, supply, package and deliver various types of airfield matting kits to U.S. Air Force locations worldwide. 12 Mar 25. New York State Police has placed an order for an Airbus H160 and three H145 helicopters, making them the first law enforcement agency in the U.S. to add an H160 to their fleet. This announcement follows the agency’s order of two H145s in 2024 as New York State Police moves to replace their existing helicopters. Originally formed in 1931, the New York State Police Aviation Unit provides services to police across the state, as well as lifesaving and environmental conservation services.

The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Australia of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System-Alternate Warhead Rounds and related equipment for an estimated cost of $91.2m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of Australia has requested to buy fifty-four (54) Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System-Alternate Warhead (GMLRS-AW) rounds. The following non-MDE items will also be included: telemetry kits; engineering services; technical assistance; and other related logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $91.2 m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States. Australia is one of our most important allies in the Western Pacific. The strategic location of this political and economic power contributes significantly to ensuring peace and economic stability in the Western Pacific. It is vital to the U.S. national interest to assist our ally in developing and maintaining a strong and ready self-defense capability. The proposed sale will enhance Australia’s capability to meet current and future threats by increasing its capability to deter adversaries. The proposed sale will support its goal of improving national and territorial defense, interoperability with U.S. forces, and working to uplift industry as a new source of supply. Australia will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment and services into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. 07 Mar 25. India signs $248m deal with Russia for advanced battle tank engines. India has signed a $248m contract with Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport to acquire more powerful engines for its Soviet-era battle tanks, the Indian Defence Ministry said on Friday. The T-72 tank, first introduced in India in the 1970s, is the mainstay of the Indian Army’s fleet. It operates about 2,500 such tanks fitted with a 780 horsepower (HP) engine. (Source: Reuters)

BAE Systems has received a contract from Damen Naval for a Bofors 40 Mk4 naval gun system to be installed for anti-aircraft and anti-surface operations on the PES frigate of the Colombian Navy – a Damen Naval SIGMA-class ship. With more than 70 systems sold to eight countries since 2015, Colombia is the second Latin American customer to adopt the highly versatile and multi-target naval gun. Canada recently awarded Irving Shipbuilding (ISI) a contract with an initial value of CAD8bn (USD5.5bn) for the construction and delivery of the first three River-class Destroyers (RCDs), the Canadian government confirmed on 8 March. The contract is meant to fund the first years of construction, and also the development and delivery of necessary training, spares, and maintenance products required to operate and support the ships in service, the government said in a release. Canada estimates the cost to build and deliver the first three ships at CAD22.2 bn, including ship construction, as well as costs associated with the delivery of equipment, systems, and ammunition that Canada will be acquiring to bring the three ships into service, according to the release. SEA, part of the Cohort plc Group, has secured a contract extension with Lumut Naval Shipyard (LUNAS) to supply its fixed triple configuration Torpedo Launcher System (TLS) to the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). The agreement will see five Maharaja Lela-class Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) equipped with the advanced lightweight torpedo launcher capability, significantly enhancing the littoral water defences of the RMN. The fixed triple configuration TLS will enhance the Maharaja Lela-class LCS anti-submarine warfare capability, providing a powerful, adaptable, and reliable system that ensures the RMN remains mission-ready. The TLS system is weapons-agnostic, allowing compatibility with a range of lightweight torpedoes, while its compact design simplifies maintenance and extends its operational lifetime.
10 Mar 25. The Royal Australian Navy’s Hunter class frigates will be fitted with Ultra Maritime’s world-leading 2150 Bow Sonar under a contract with BAE Systems Maritime Australia (BAESMA). The delivery of the 2150 Bow Sonar will expand Australian sovereign undersea warfare capabilities, providing active and passive anti-submarine warfare (ASW) modes, mine and obstacle avoidance sonar, integrated underwater communications, and automated torpedo detection, classification and localization. 11 Mar 25. Japan – Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectiles Capability Support. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Japan of Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectiles Capability Support and related equipment for an estimated cost of $200m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of Japan has requested to buy equipment and services in support of its indigenous Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectiles (HVGP) capability, including test preparation, test, and transportation support; coordination meetings in the United States and Japan; etc. The estimated total cost is $200m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a major ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific region. The proposed sale will improve Japan’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing defense for remote islands. Japan will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment and services into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. Equipment and services will be provided by the U.S. Government. At this time, the U.S. Government is not aware of any offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale. Any offset agreement will be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and the contractor. The contract includes the delivery of a comprehensive self-protection suite for Mi-17/8 and Mi-35 helicopters, ensuring enhanced survivability against missile threats. This agreement represents a significant milestone in the African Air Force’s ongoing efforts to modernize its fleet with combat-proven missile defense solutions that enhance pilot survivability and strengthen national airspace security. 07 Mar 25. Boeing Defence Australia secures $569m contract to enhance RAAF Wedgetail fleet. The Albanese government has reinforced the future of the Royal Australian Air Force’s E-7A Wedgetail surveillance aircraft with a $569 m contract, securing hundreds of highly skilled jobs in the Hunter region of NSW. The contract with Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) will fund enhancements to both the aircraft and ground systems, ensuring this critical capability is upgraded and maintained over the next decade. The investment will provide job security for hundreds of workers in Brisbane and Adelaide, as well as in the Hunter region of NWS, where it will support 170 jobs alone. 11 Mar 25. Dassault – India and France have concluded negotiations for the purchase of 26 Rafale Marine carrier-based fighter aircraft, a strategic contract valued at approximately $7.6bn (€7bn). According to Indian Defence News, the formal agreement is expected to be signed in April 2025 during a visit to India by the French Minister of Defence. This acquisition represents a significant step in the modernization of the Indian Navy’s air capabilities, replacing the aging MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB aircraft currently operated by INAS 300 “White Tigers” and INAS 303 “Black Panthers.” The new aircraft will be deployed on the INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya aircraft carriers, enhancing the Navy’s operational capabilities in the Indian Ocean. This modification adds scope for the production and delivery of two Navy MQ-4C Triton unmanned air systems and one Navy Main Operating Base, as well as associated support, related technical, and administrative data in support of low-rate initial production Lot Seven. Additionally, this modification procures MQ-4C spare parts for the government of Australia. Work will be performed in Rancho Bernardo, California (36.82%); Palmdale, California (14.11%); Red Oak, Texas (11.15%); Salt Lake City, Utah (5.57%); San Deigo, California (4.48%); Bridgeport, West Virginia (4.33%); Indianapolis, Indiana (3.81%); Moss Point, Mississippi (2.4%); rolling meadows, Illinois (2.07%); Whippany, New Jersey (1.41%); Waco, Texas (1.17%); Baltimore, Maryland (1.14%); various locations within the continental U.S. (10.38%); and various location outside the continental U.S. (1.16%), and is expected to be completed in October 2028. Fiscal 2024 aircraft procurement (Navy) funds in the amount of $265,807,120; and Royal Australian Air Force Cooperative Funds in the amount of $1,357,880, will be obligated at the time of award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
