Kahootz, the leading British provider of secure online collaboration platforms, has today announced that the Ministry of Defence (MOD) will extend its existing contract, ensuring its continued use of the Defence Share platform. 25 Feb 25. FNSS has secured a significant contract to produce the new generation PARS Alpha armoured vehicles for the Turkish Land Forces. The contract, which includes an initial order of 25 units, entails the serial production of both 8×8 and 6×6 variants of the PARS Alpha armoured vehicle for the Mechanized Armoured Units. 21 Feb 25. GDELS to Supply PIRANHA 5 for German Army’s TaWAN Project. General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has been selected by the German Army for their critical procurement of a vehicle-based, long-range telecommunications network as part of the modernization efforts of the German Bundeswehr. The order for the delivery of up to 256 modern PIRANHA vehicles has a volume in the three-digit m range for the initial batch of 58 vehicles. First series vehicles will be delivered in 2026. 23 Feb 25. Norway acquires precision artillery ammunition for K9 VIDAR howitzers from the United States. Norway has signed an agreement with the United States to procure advanced artillery ammunition aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the Army’s artillery systems. The acquisition, made through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme, involves purchasing Precision Guidance Kit (PGK) M1156A1 fuses from Northrop Grumman. These advanced fuses, equipped with GPS and guiding fins, will be integrated with Norway’s 155mm VIDAR artillery system. 24 Feb 25. Raytheon, an RTX (NYSE: RTX) business was awarded an additional multi-million-dollar contract by the Danish Defence Armed Forces for ELCAN Specter DR dual role sights. The NATO Support Procurement Support Agency (NSPA) is the contracting authority. The ELCAN Specter DR sight is a direct-view optic that provides close quarters and precision capability in a single sight. The Specter DR sight switches instantly between magnifications, providing the user with “both eyes open” target acquisition while boresight, eye relief and sight picture remain constant.

Safran Electronics & Defense announced a significant agreement with the Finnish Defence Forces for the supply of advanced Geonyx Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) for their Artillery systems. The contract spans from 2024 to 2031, reflecting a long-term commitment to equipping Finland’s military forces with cutting-edge navigation and positioning technology. 25 Feb 25. Airbus to build the communication network for the French air and naval force, stage 3. The French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) has awarded the contract for the IP Network of the Naval Force (RIFAN) stage 3 to an industrial consortium led by Airbus Defence and Space and also comprising Naval Group. With a maximum value of 480 m euros and a maximum duration of 10 years, the contract covers the development of RIFAN upgrades, their deployment and operational maintenance. The developments will be carried out incrementally between 2026 and 2030 and deployed on ships between 2028 and 2032. More than 80 vessels will be equipped with the RIFAN 3 network: aircraft carriers, amphibious helicopter carriers, frigates, command and supply vessels, patrol vessels, minesweepers, submarines and support vessels.

Teledyne FLIR Defense, part of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY), has received an order from the German Army to provide its Black Hornet® 4 Personal Reconnaissance Systems to German armed forces. Teledyne FLIR performs as the supplier within a two-year agreement with the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) to deliver Black Hornet 4 systems, parts and training. The contract award was facilitated by Teledyne FLIR’s regional partner, European Logistic Partners (ELP) GmbH of Wuppertal, Germany as the contractor for BAAINBw. Black Hornet 4 represents the next generation of lightweight nano-drones, able to provide enhanced covert situational awareness to small fighting units. Its 12-megapixel daytime camera and high-resolution thermal imager deliver crisp video and still images to the operator. At just 70 grams Black Hornet 4 can fly for over 30 minutes, more than two kilometers, and function in 25-knot winds and rain. Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) today announced that it has been awarded two contracts from TerraPower to design and supply plant simulation and digital control solutions for the Natrium1 advanced nuclear reactor design. Under the contracts, Curtiss-Wright will design and deliver the Training Simulator (TSN) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for the Natrium plant. The TSN is a full-scope simulator that will replicate plant equipment and simulate system conditions and operations to support operator training and licensing. The DCS is a digital platform that serves as a core component for automating control and operation of plant processes. In addition, Curtiss-Wright has been selected to develop two separate control systems for the Natrium plant: the NIC (Nuclear Island Control system) and EIC (Energy Island Control system). Under previously awarded contracts, Curtiss-Wright was selected to develop the Reactor Protection System (RPS) for the Natrium plant, as well as the software platform and engineering services for the Natrium Engineering Simulator.

24 Feb 25. Leonardo DRS, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRS) announced today that it has received a $45m U.S. Navy Submarine Industrial Base (SIB) investment commitment through contracts with HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding. The investment is expected to expand the capabilities of DRS’s new, 140,000 square-foot naval propulsion manufacturing facility currently under-construction in Goose Creek, SC, and includes capital equipment and other infrastructure enhancements. The $45m SIB investment will serve as a catalyst for a 40,000 square-foot expansion of the facility in support of capabilities critical to current and future U.S. Navy nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers. This investment builds on several Navy funded engineering contracts, including Newport News Shipbuilding, and from General Dynamics Electric Boat previously issued to Leonardo DRS. These contracts, combined with internal investments, will strengthen steam turbine system design, manufacture, integration, and test capabilities, including steam turbine generators.

Indra has been awarded a contract by Canada Department of National Defence (DND), valued at more than €13m, to upgrade its entire ground-to-air communications system with the supply of approximately 600 state-of-the-art, scalable and flexible radios that are equipped with advanced technologies to guarantee the effectiveness of its air traffic and defence operations. Replacing the current equipment will benefit the pilots and different defence agents by providing them with greater clarity and reliability in their voice communications, in turn, optimizing the DND’s operations. The contract includes the Indra Park Air T6 radio systems, which feature simultaneous call transmission (SCTO) capabilities to streamline communications between pilots and other agents and advanced IP technology to optimize performance in high-demand air traffic environments, as well as a compact and efficient design that reduces energy consumption and minimizes any environmental impact. Indra will also supply interoperable M7 radios that are compatible with the secure frequency on which NATO member States and other defence customers operate. Brazilian missile specialist SIATT – Engenharia, Indústria e Comércio has been awarded a contract by the Brazilian Army to carry out the first serial production of the MAX 1.2 AC medium-range manportable anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) system, the company said on 17 February. The contract to acquire the first serial production batch worth BRL54.1 m (USD9.4 m) was signed between SIATT and the Army Obtentions Center of Logistics Command on 30 January, Janes has learnt. The contract for an undisclosed number of missiles and launchers is scheduled to be fulfilled by January 2027, Logistics Command said. The MAX 1.2 AC missile has a length of 1.38 m, a diameter of 130 mm, a weight of 15.4 kg, and a maximum range of 3.2 km, SIATT told Janes in December 2024. 24 Feb 25. Australia awards defence funding to UAS research projects. Five research projects have received a funding boost to deliver real-world technologies to address some of the Australian Department of Defence’s most challenging problems. The winning projects will receive up to AUSD 250,000 each over the next 18 months under the Queensland Defence Science Alliance’s (QDSA) 2024 Collaborative Research Grants (CRG). Additional co-funded investment associated with the projects brings the total combined value in this round of funding to more than AUSD 3m. The QDSA grant programme received 41 submissions from across Queensland and the Northern Territory. The winning projects include a partnership between Charles Darwin University, Griffith University, SAI Dynamics and Safran that aims to integrate long range cargo uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) into battlespace operating systems. The project will develop, test and trial the delivery of medical items over long-ranges using Australian-made UAS. Another winning project, by Griffith and Charles Darwin universities and EPE, is for an autonomous littoral AI marine threat detection system. This capability integrates an uncrewed ground vehicle, remote electromagnetic sensors, and UAS into a self-contained mobile unit optimised for littoral detection of sub-surface objects, bathymetric changes and activity.
