Babcock International Group (Babcock), the defence company, has been awarded a second contract by NATO’s Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) – to provide the Alliance with expert advice on wargaming activities. Based at JWC in Stavanger, Norway, and operating across NATO’s command headquarters, the one-year contract will see Babcock support the design, delivery and management of professional wargames for strategic and operational level participants. Wargaming is a vital tool for providing a safe-to-fail environment for testing and enhancing defence preparedness. It also enhances headquarters’ command, control, and decision-making processes.

19 Feb 25. Kitron has received an order with a value of about NOK 73 m covering electronics for the Joint Strike Missile (JSM) supplied by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG). 19 Feb 25. Rheinmetall has received a major order from the Bundeswehr for logistical support in connection with redeploying military forces within Germany as well as their deployment abroad. The framework agreement concluded with the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services (BAIUDBw) is worth up to €260m gross. The agreement is initially valid for three years. It can be extended twice, by one year at each extension, up until the end of 2029 as a maximum. The contract explicitly stipulates that Rheinmetall is to provide the specified services in a national defence situation and in conjunction with the mutual defence clause. The corporation is thus expanding its portfolio to include logistical support for the redeployment of forces. Due to its central location in Europe, Germany is both a transit nation and a logistical hub for collective defence. Within NATO and the EU, the country therefore plays a key role concerning the redeployment of forces. With this order, Rheinmetall Project Solutions GmbH is the first industrial partner to take on the task of setting up and operating holding areas (Convoy Support Centres or CSCs) and assembly areas along convoy routes as part of the Bundeswehr’s ‘Operationsplan Deutschland’.
19 Feb 25. SMARTSHOOTER and IEA MIL-OPTICS GmbH are pleased to announce another significant order to supply a mid-three-digit number of SMARTSHOOTER SMASH systems for the German Armed Forces. 20 Feb 25. Spectra Group announces the award of a contract to supply Troposcatter COMET to the Irish Defence Force. Spectra Group (UK) Ltd, the specialist provider of secure voice, data and satellite communications systems, has announced a contract award to supply the Irish Defence Force with Comtech’s Troposcatter Compact Over-the Horizon Mobile Expeditionary Terminals (COMET). Spectra Group acquired the global distribution rights to supply Comtech’s Troposcatter Family of Systems (FoS) in February 2024 (less USA, Canada and Mexico which Comtech retains). This procurement is the next in a series of overseas sales under this agreement. The Irish Defence Force has procured a number of COMET systems, with more systems and the associated training and support package in the pipeline, including aspirations to deploy the new Troposcatter on the Move (TOTM) enhancement; more news on this exciting new capability coming soon.

The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO or FMI) has decided to enter a government-to-government agreement with Norway for the procurement of Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) from Kongsberg. As per information posted on the European Union’s Tenders Electronic Daily (TED) platform, the proposed contract’s value ranges between DKr900m ($126.35m) and DKr1.5bn. 18 Feb 25. Rheinmetall to equip German Navy with simulation-based training systems. The Bundeswehr has commissioned the Düsseldorf-based technology corporation Rheinmetall to supply training simulators called Distributed Naval Training Architecture/Verteilte Trainingsarchitektur der Marine (VTAM). The order, worth a mid-double digit m Euro sum, was signed in December 2024 and booked in the same month. The project, which began in January 2025, will run for four years. VTAM is a networked simulation-based operational training solution for the German Navy. For this purpose, Rheinmetall Electronic Solutions GmbH is supplying, and taking into operation hardware and software modules at six German Naval bases. VTAM is the first simulation of its kind to be introduced into the German Navy, simulating the interaction between the external and internal combat schemes of a warship (weapons deployment and damage control). This will create a wide range of training and exercise options in the future, enabling crews of vessels, boats and aviation units to be trained together in a virtual scenario.

19 Feb 25. Romania – GBU-39B Small Diameter Bombs. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Romania of GBU-39B Small Diameter Bombs and related equipment for an estimated cost of $84m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of Romania has requested to buy four hundred (400) Guided Bomb Unit (GBU)-39B Small Diameter Bombs (SDB-I), and two (2) GBU-39 (T-1)/B inert practice bombs with fuze. The following non-MDE items will also be included: GBU-39 tactical training rounds; Common Munitions Built-In-Test (BIT)/Reprogramming Equipment (CMBRE); ADU-890E Computer Test Set Adapter Groups; containers, weapons system support, and support and test equipment; training aids, devices, and spare parts; consumables and accessories, and repair and return support; publications and technical data; personnel training and training equipment; warranties; transportation support; site surveys; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, logistics, and technical support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $84m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO Ally that is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe. This proposed sale will improve Romania’s capability to meet current and future threats by increasing its ability to deter and defend against all threats and to participate in NATO coalition air operations. Romania will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The principal contractor will be The Boeing Company, located in St. Louis, MO. At this time, the U.S. Government is not aware of any offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale. Any offset agreement will be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and the contractor. 07 Feb 25. CGI awarded ASCEND contract by ESA to support ESA-MAAP platform development. CGI (TSX: GIB.A) (NYSE: GIB) was recently selected to deliver key system engineering and cyber security expertise for the European Space Agency’s ESA-MAAP, a Multi-Mission Algorithm and Analysis Platform, as part of a consortium led by Serco—this initiative will enhance access to advanced processing capabilities for Earth Observation (EO) data, empowering global scientific collaboration. CGI’s teams in the UK and Italy will play a vital role in the platform’s development, contributing to system engineering, security design, and implementation. Pierce Aerospace, a dual-use aerospace technology firm and global leader in drone Remote Identification technologies, announced that it was awarded a U.S. Navy SeaPort NxG Prime Contract along with teammates Allen Control Systems, Glassboard, HEKA, and InterSpatial Analytics. The SeaPort Next Generation (NxG) is the Navy Virtual SYSCOM Commanders’ (NAVAIR, NAVFAC, NAVSEA, NAVSUP, NAVWAR, and ONR) as well as Military Sealift Command (MSC) and the United States Marine Corps (USMC) integrated approach to contracting for Professional Support Services. The U.S. Navy’s SeaPort NxG contract is a multiple-award, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract valued at $50 bn and spans a five-year base period with an additional five-year option. 20 Feb 25. BWX Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: BWXT) today announced the award of U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program contracts totaling approximately $2.1bn for the manufacture of reactor components. Naval nuclear reactor component manufacturing and material procurement activities for Columbia and Virginia class submarines, as well as Ford class aircraft carriers, will be performed at BWXT Nuclear Operations Group, Inc. locations in Lynchburg, Virginia; Barberton and Euclid, Ohio; and Mount Vernon, Indiana, over an approximately seven-year period that began in 2023. In addition to the contracts announced today, production and delivery of fuel and support activities for the U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program is performed by Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc. in Erwin, Tennessee. 07 Feb 25. AURA Network Systems awarded FAA contract to enhance UAS integration in National Airspace. AURA Network Systems has been awarded a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) contract to demonstrate and validate technologies in support of the safe integration of Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System (NAS). AURA will work closely with the Northern Plains UAS Test Site (NPUASTS) to demonstrate the company’s voice capabilities. Headquartered in Grand Forks, North Dakota, NPUASTS is one of seven FAA-designated UAS test sites in the nation, known for its innovation and results. 20 Feb 25. Trillium Engineering has been awarded a Phase One Production contract for the supply of its HD25-LV gimbal systems for integration with a Raytheon Loitering Munition. Awarded in December 2024, this latest contract supports a critical customer for Raytheon, and highlights the HD25-LV’s suitability for demanding Loitering Munition requirements. The HD25 gimbal system offers superior image quality, robust stabilization, lightweight design, and is capable of withstanding high-velocity applications. EDGE, one of the world’s leading advanced technology and defence groups, and Fincantieri, one of the world’s leading groups in high-complexity shipbuilding, announced today that MAESTRAL, their Abu Dhabi-based shipbuilding joint venture, will be awarded a major ‘In-Service Support Strategic Partnership Project’ for the entire UAE Navy fleet by Tawazun Council. Tawazun Council is an independent government entity that works closely with the Ministry of Defence and security agencies in the United Arab Emirates. The value of the agreement is of approximately 500m euros over a five-years period.
18 Feb 25. Milanion has secured an agreement with Indonesian defence company PT Republikorp for the provision of autonomous maritime solutions to the Indonesian Navy. The agreement was signed by Milanion Group CEO Davinder Dogra and Republikorp CEO Norman Joesoef at International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) 2025 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The contract involves the conversion of 20 metre (m) vessels into uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) using Milanion’s advanced autonomous technology. An initial batch of five USVs is expected for delivery. It also sets the groundwork for future joint ventures. The collaborative effort will see the inclusion of a local Indonesian shipyard, which will be responsible for the vessel construction and customisation in line with the navy’s operational needs. 14 Feb 25. Algeria becomes launch export customer for Russia’s Su-57, national media says. Algeria is to be the launch export customer for Russia’s Sukhoi Su-57 ‘Felon’ combat aircraft, Algerian national media announced on 11 February. Algerian media reported that up to 14 examples of the Su-57E export version of the ‘fifth-generation’ fighter had been acquired, seemingly firming up Russian pronouncements in 2024 that a first buyer had been secured. The Algerian Ministry of National Defense (MND) had not responded to Janes request for confirmation and further information at the time of publication. As noted by Janes World Air Forces, the Algerian Air Force is a traditional customer of Russian (and prior to that, Soviet Union) combat aircraft types, now fielding MiG-25 ‘Foxbat’, Sukhoi Su‐30 ‘Flanker’, MiG-29 ‘Fulcrum’ fighters, and Sukhoi Su-24 ‘Fencer’ aircraft. (NYSE: BKSY) won a six-figure contract from a new strategic international customer to provide immediate, subscription-based on-demand Gen-2 imagery and analytics services and comprehensive analyst training on the AI-powered BlackSky Spectra multi-intelligence tasking and analytics platform. Analyst training will also emphasize the use of BlackSky’s automated broad area search and discovery tools. Delivering high-frequency, low-latency imagery and analytics with Spectra platform training will establish an essential base for developing an immediate and long-term national space-based capability. The training program will give analyst teams the ability to integrate BlackSky data with other sources of intelligence and generate intelligence products to support various missions, with a special emphasis on BlackSky’s proprietary AI-enabled broad area search and discovery technology developed through customer-funded research that the company continues to scale.
