13 Janu 25. Babcock has secured its first NATO training contract – for the delivery of support to its Joint Warfare Centre (JWC). The five-year contract, delivered primarily in Stavanger, Norway, will support military exercises by providing subject matter experts to fulfil play functions, such as role players and script writers. The contract also includes the provision of exercise control staff who will support the design and delivery of training for the Alliance’s multinational headquarters through computer-assisted command post exercises. This new agreement draws on our proven successes in supporting the design, delivery and management of collective training for the British Army’s deployable headquarters.
16 Jan 25. ISTEC selected to provide the Smoke Discharger System (SDS) for the British Army’s new MLRS A2. ISTEC Services Limited is a British company with 35 years of operationally proven experience in the design, manufacture and supply of complex weapon integration solutions and smoke discharger systems (SDS) for military platforms. ISTEC has been selected to provide the SDS for the British Army’s new M270 MLRS A2. At DVD, in September 2024, ISTEC announced the delivery of 65 GPMG gun mounts for MLRS A2 and the combined contract value supplied via the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) catalogue exceeds £1.5m. ISTEC has a long history of delivering weapon integration solutions for crew-served weapons such as HMG and MMG across Land, Sea and Air domains and has an extensive operational pedigree having supplied gun mounts for key operational vehicles such as WMIK, Mastiff, Viking and Jackal used for Land operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, ISTEC has also been providing bespoke platform SDS since 2018 and their systems have been fitted to specialist light strike vehicles so also have an extensive operationally proven pedigree.

16 Jan 25. AgEagle Aerial Systems has fulfilled an order for its eBee VISION uncrewed aerial systems, which are being provided to its reseller for surveillance operations with the French Army. This order, comprising 15 units, marks the company’s largest single sale to date, with a total value of $3.4m (€3.3m). The eBee VISION system is engineered to provide real-time situational awareness and is particularly suited for military intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. 13 Jan 25. Adarga, a leader in AI-driven information intelligence, has been awarded an Enterprise Agreement Lite worth up to £12m by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD). 15 Jan 25. Hall & Watts Defence Optics and ARIS Partner to Supply Artillery Sighting Systems to the Italian Army. Hall & Watts Defence Optics, a leader in artillery sighting systems, in partnership with ARIS (Applicazioni Rielaborazioni Impianti Speciali), a renowned Italian company specializing in the design, manufacturing, and maintenance of special vehicles and equipment, has been selected by the Italian Ministry of Defence (MOD) to supply up to 54 artillery sighting systems to the Land Forces’ FH70 15mm MLU program.
14 Jan 25. Micropol Fiberoptic, a developer of passive fibre optic technologies, has received a significant order from the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV). The order, valued at 69 MSEK, includes field tactical fiber optic communication systems and related accessories.
Micropol’s fiber optic solutions are suited for a wide range of applications such as mission-critical military communications and surveillance sensor networks, and have been selected by a number of leading defense suppliers including BAE Systems, Saab and MilDef.
Micropol’s expanded beam fibre optic connector utilize a lens in front of the fiber end that expands and collimates the light into a mating connector. This expansion of the beam provides enhanced alignment tolerance and lowers the impact of contaminants, making the connectors much more resilient to harsh-environment factors. The company’s expanded beam connectors are designed to MIL-DTL-83526 20/21 standards, and are the solutions of choice for the Swedish Armed Forces. The latest order relates to the existing 3-year contract signed in 2023. 15 Jan 25. The Italian Army has decided to introduce Skynex air defence systems from Rheinmetall. The order to supply a first system worth a total of €73m has now been placed at Rheinmetall Italia S.p.A., Rome. The contract includes an option to supply three additional systems worth €204m. A Skynex system consists of a sensor and tracking unit for air surveillance, a control station as a command-and-control centre and four 35mm firing units. Skynex systems are designed to counter threats from missiles, artillery and mortars, as well as drones and loitering munitions – both for national defence and for the protection of contingents in operational areas.
The scheduled delivery of the pilot system is to be completed during Q2/2026, while three follow-up systems, as option, could be contractualized within 2027. The distribution package includes the appropriate ammunition, training and maintenance services as well as spare parts.
06 Jan 25. Norway and Sweden order heavy rail wagons from Finland.
Finnish State Railways subsidiary VR FleetCare announced in a press release on 20 December that it had received an order for heavy rail wagons for Norway and Sweden. VR FleetCare will design, manufacture, and deliver an initial batch of 10 units, with an option for another 110, for Bane NOR, the owner of Norway’s rail infrastructure; the Norwegian Defence Materiel Administration; and the Swedish Armed Forces. Design work has begun, with the first deliveries planned for 2025.
The six-axle wagons must be able to transport heavy NATO equipment, be able to operate in the Arctic’s polar climate zone, and be designed to be usable, as well as having a long life cycle and maintainability. 10 Jan 25. Babcock France, part of Babcock International Group, the defence company, has been awarded a prestigious new 17-year contract for the provision and support of military air training solutions for the French Air and Space Force and French Navy. The €795m contract, awarded by the Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) will see student pilots trained on 22 new PC-7 MkX Pilatus aircraft and on 12 training simulators provided by Babcock France at the Salon-de-Provence Air Base before they specialise as either fighter or transport pilots. In addition to the provision of aircraft and simulators, this contract will include through-life support of the aircraft, infrastructure and pilot equipment.
The contract will create more than 100 new roles in the Salon-de-Provence and Le Cannet-des-Maures regions including engineers, technicians, project managers and administrators who will help deliver nearly 11,000 flight and 6,500 simulator training hours to approximately 120 students per year. Since 2018, Babcock France has been working alongside the French Air and Space Force to provide modern training systems on flight simulators and 26 existing PC-21 aircraft at Cognac-Châteaubernard Air Base.
14 Jan 25. Schiebel, as part of the SEACURE consortium led by Thales, has been awarded a grant agreement under the European Defence Fund’s call for unmanned anti-submarine and seabed warfare solutions. The SEACURE (Seabed and anti-submarine warfare capability through unmanned feature for Europe) consortium consists of 35 companies from 13 European countries and aims to progress joint Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Seabed Warfare (SBW) with unmanned air, surface and underwater systems protecting critical maritime infrastructure. The focus is on detection, classification, identification and tracking of underwater threats in demanding conditions. Schiebel’s latest product, the CAMCOPTER S-300, will serve as the dedicated Unmanned Air System (UAS) for this project. With a maximum take-off weight of 700 kg, the S-300 offers an impressive endurance in excess of 24 hours with a camera and Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) or typically 6 hours with a 250 kg payload. The firm fixed-price IDIQ contract is worth more than $99m. Under the contract, Leonardo DRS is responsible for the production and delivery of fire control systems and fielding services to support mortar Weapons and Fire Control programs. The MFCS modernizes the U.S. Army’s current mortar fire control capability, linking mortar fires with the digital battlefield. MFCS combines a highly accurate weapon pointing device, an inertial navigation/position system, and a digital communications capability embedded in a rugged fire control computer to create a highly responsive and accurate fire control system. 15 Jan 25. Serco, the international provider of critical government services, has been awarded a new contract to support soldier readiness and performance within the US Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) System. The contract starts immediately and has an eight-month base period plus four one-year option periods. The estimated total value is $247m (£203m) if all options are exercised. Serco and its contract partners will support the US Army’s initiative to enhance soldier readiness, support optimal physical and non-physical performance, significantly reduce injury rates, and streamline rehabilitation post-injury. Serco will provide training support to 45 US Army brigades at 15 locations across the United States. Serco supports the entire career lifecycle of military personnel. 14 Jan 25. In 2024, the U.S. Navy awarded BAE Systems an $85m production contract to deliver additional Network Tactical Common Data Link (NTCDL) systems. NTCDL will enable a real-time exchange of voice, data, imagery, and full-motion video from a variety of air, surface, subsurface, and man-portable sources. Systems under the company’s current contract are presently being installed on U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and will be installed on new Constellation-class frigates. NTCDL is a multi-platform solution for all U.S. Navy Common Data Link (CDL) requirements. It is a modular, scalable system designed to increase link capacity and embrace waveform evolution. NTCDL supports multiple, simultaneous, networked operations using currently fielded CDL equipment, as well as next-generation manned and unmanned platforms. It enables operators to simultaneously transmit and receive real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance data from multiple sources and exchange command and control information across separate or independent networks. 14 Jan 25. Chemring has signed a multi-year agreement with a major US Prime Contractor for the supply of its high-speed Miniature Radar Altimeter (“MRA”). With its compact design and integrated antenna, Roke’s MRA is the smallest and lowest mass radar altimeter of its type currently available for use in missile systems and uncrewed air vehicles. Roke’s proprietary software algorithms and digital signal processing hardware enable highly accurate altitude measurement over land and sea when operating in high speed, low altitude, austere environments.

16 Jan 25. The UK placed a £61m contract with defence giant BAE Systems to produce the barrel forgings, working with Sheffield Forgemasters. The barrels will be produced in Yorkshire, before being sent to Ukraine for finishing and integration. 13 Jan 25. Rheinmetall supplies artillery ammunition worth €21 m to international customer. An international customer has contracted with Rheinmetall to supply five-digit quantities of 155mm M107 artillery ammunition. Worth €21m, the order is to be delivered in the first half of 2025. The order was booked in December 2024. The ammunition will be manufactured by Rheinmetall Expal Munitions in Spain. In service with several NATO nations for decades, the M107 is still among the world’s most widely used artillery projectiles. It can be fired from a large number of 155mm weapon systems. Rheinmetall is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of large calibre ammunition. The U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress that the Republic of Zambia has requested to buy Bell 412 Enhanced Performance exportable medium-lift transport helicopters; radio communication and navigation systems; weather radar and transponder capabilities; qualification and transition training for pilots and maintainers; in-country Contractor Field Service Representatives support; Program Management Reviews; technical assistance and product support; associated aviation ground support equipment; peculiar ground support equipment; hardware; special tools; test equipment; basic issue items; Quality Assurance Team inspections, inventories, validations, and ground run and flight test verification testing; air freight transportation delivery; initial spare, repair, and consumable parts; operator, maintenance, and technical manuals; technical and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $100 m, to be funded by a combination of Foreign Military Financing and Zambian national funds. The principal contractor will be Bell Textron, located in Fort Worth, TX. Embraer (NYSE: ERJ/B3: EMBR3) today announced that the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) and the Uruguayan Ministry of National Defense (MDN) have converted options for five A-29 Super Tucano aircraft into firm orders. The agreement is part of a commitment signed in August 2024, when the FAU has announced a firm order for one aircraft plus the options that have now been converted. The agreement also includes mission equipment, integrated logistics services and a flight simulator. The contract is part of a fleet renew program to expand FAU’s operational capacity.

The U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress that the Government of Japan has requested to buy up to sixteen (16) AGM-158B/B-2 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles with Extended Range (JASSM-ER). The following non-MDE items will also be included: AGM-158 JASSM Dummy Air Training Missiles (DATM) and containers; JASSM Anti-jam Global Positioning System Receivers (JAGR); munitions support and support equipment; spare parts, consumables and accessories, and repair and return support; integration and test support and equipment; classified and unclassified software delivery and support; classified and unclassified publications and technical documentation; personnel training and equipment; airlift and transportation support; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; studies and surveys; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $39m. The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin, located in Orlando, FL. At this time, the U.S. Government is not aware of any offset agreement proposed in connection with this potential sale.
