Lockheed Martin has secured a two-year extension from the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to continue operating, maintaining and providing technical support for the British Army’s Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (CATT) programme. This ensures Lockheed Martin can continue to modernise and adapt CATT, to meet the Army’s changing operational and training requirements, to be ready to train today, tomorrow and beyond. The contract, worth approximately £10m, runs until February 2027. Based at two sites, the British Army Land Warfare Centre in Warminster, UK and Sennelager, Germany, CATT has continually evolved and improved, and remains as the largest and most sophisticated battlefield simulation trainer in the world. The extension reaffirms Raytheon UK’s commitment to providing cutting-edge, technology-enabled solutions to meet the evolving needs of modern military operations. Over the past three decades Raytheon UK has provided command and staff training for the British army and NATO, innovating its approach to training by integrating live, virtual, and constructive training environments that enhance realism and provide near real-time feedback to soldiers. At the heart of the training is Raytheon’s Advanced Battlespace Computer Simulation System, which supports large-scale complex exercises such as NATO’s ongoing Exercise Cerberus.
13 Nov 24. tlmNexus awarded new Framework Agreement for G-Cloud 14. G-Cloud is a Crown Commercial Services (CCS) Digital Marketplace framework that public sector buyers use to procure services based on the latest cloud technology and innovation. The framework provides access to multiple suppliers and cloud services including cloud hosting, cloud software and associated support. During the first ten years since its launch in February 2012, over £11bn has been spent through the framework with annual spend now exceeding £200m according to CCS. CCS has recently completed its assessment of bids from all existing and new suppliers to provide services on the latest iteration of the G-Cloud framework, G-Cloud 14, which goes live in early November. tlmNexus has supplied cloud software and cloud support services through the G-Cloud since 2013 and are fortunate to have been able to use the channel to supply our services directly to Government as a SME. Our ongoing participation in the framework supports our ability to respond and adapt at pace to changes in our customers’ business processes. There were over 5000 suppliers offering in excess of 40,000 cloud services on G-Cloud 13 so setting up G-Cloud 14 was a huge undertaking and we are immensely grateful for all the work done by CCS to keep the framework operating and, in particular, for judging our own submission as compliant, awarding us a place on the G-Cloud framework and enabling us to continue to deliver our innovative digital solutions.

Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, has received a $19m contract from the Department of Defense to equip a fleet of new H-47 Chinooks for the UK Royal Air Force with its Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) avionics management suite. This cockpit upgrade will make UK Chinooks interoperable with the U.S. Chinooks, using the same avionics system, advance digital cockpit displays and applications. CAAS’s Flight2™ Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) architecture design integrates multiple communications, navigation and mission sensor subsystems through its flexible hardware and software. Its open systems architecture enables cost-effective system upgrades and enhancements, reducing total sustainment costs over a platform’s life cycle. As part of this contract Collins Aerospace will also be responsible for completing data analysis and testing whilst working with the UK Ministry of Defence to help it meet the UK Military Airworthiness Authority’s requirements. Earlier this year, the UK government announced that the UK’s heavy lift capability would be enhanced with the purchase of 14 extended-range Chinooks, contributing an estimated £151 m into the UK economy. Work on this contract will be conducted in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Huntsville, Alabama.

13 Nov 24. Latvia selects Ascod infantry fighting vehicle for its land forces. The Latvian Ministry of Defence has selected the Ascod infantry fighting vehicle for the country’s armed forces, and officials expect procurement negotiations with manufacturer GDELS-Santa Bárbara Sistemas to conclude by the end of this year or early next. 12 Nov 24. Type for Switzerland’s New Artillery System Selected: PIRANHA-IV- Based Wheeled Howitzers. 12 Nov 24. Sensor specialist HENSOLDT has been awarded the contract to modernise the sensor technology of a total of 90 Fennek vehicles. As part of the project, 30 Fennek scout vehicles will be upgraded from the now obsolete BAA I observation and reconnaissance equipment to BAA III. In addition, 50 Fennek Joint Fire Support Team (JFST) vehicles will be upgraded from BAA II to BAA III. Ten additional BAA III sets will serve as a recirculating reserve during the upgrade and will subsequently be available as spare parts. Another two BAA III sets will be delivered to the customer KNDS Deutschland for integration and verification management. The order itself comprises 92 BAA III sets. The order value is in the mid double-digit m range. The integration work is scheduled to be completed in a short time frame to ensure that the Fennek is operationally ready for use by the Bundeswehr. Deliveries will begin as early as the first quarter of 2026. This modernisation is part of a comprehensive programme that is being implemented in close cooperation with the Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw). As a technology partner, HENSOLDT is responsible for the delivery and integration of the new sensor packages.

IDV, the brand of Iveco Group (EXM: IVG) specialised in defence and civil protection equipment, has signed today a preliminary agreement with Leonardo, a world leader in the aerospace, defence and security sector, to supply functional parts for future contracts within the Leonardo and Rheinmetall joint venture. IDV’s participation will be 12 to 15% of the joint venture total activities for the development and production of tracked combat ground vehicles for the Italian Army. IDV is well-positioned to contribute to the joint venture considering the unique competencies it has developed at its sites in Italy. The collaboration will leverage the company expertise, which spans from advanced propulsion and drivetrain systems for military vehicles to highly specialised protection technologies. This will also guarantee that a significant portion of core supplies for the joint venture will come from Italy, leveraging on the highly skilled workforce that IDV has in this country. The agreement will enable the brand to keep contributing to the development of vehicles for defence and civil protection, as demonstrated by an order portfolio that in 2023 exceeded 4 bn euros.
14 Nov 24. Patria to provide 56 additional armoured command and control vehicles for Latvia. Patria and Latvian Ministry of Defence have agreed on the manufacturing and delivery of 56 additional armoured Patria 6×6 vehicles, on top of the already ongoing deliveries as part of joint Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme. These vehicles will serve as command and control (C2) units. Production of the vehicles will utilize local industry capabilities in Latvia, including Patria’s armoured vehicle production facility in Valmiera, opened in May 2024. The deliveries will begin during this year and last until 2029. The value of the agreement is above 60 m Euros.

Forsway, provider of cost-efficient hybrid satellite terrestrial solutions and equipment for broadband connectivity, secures a major development funding contract from the European Space Agency (ESA) with support from the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA). In the new project, Xtend 5G, Forsway will build a next generation 5G NTN two-way/hybrid satellite connectivity system enabling the combined use of satellite and ground infrastructure to provide seamless connectivity anywhere, regardless of network. Xtend 5G will provide European government, defence, emergency services and critical infrastructure sectors with seamless connectivity anywhere, anytime, in an open or closed network and with full system control. The Xtend 5G development will be co-funded by ESA’s ARTES 4.0 Space for 5G/6G & Sustainable Connectivity programme line. The Xtend 5G system will be an independent connectivity solution to satellite platforms with the aim of providing a main connectivity source or essential backup for a critical system. Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) has signed a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) for the realisation of one satellite for the precursors mission of the Arctic Ocean Surveillance (AOS) project that will deliver space-based maritime surveillance services for the Norwegian government. This AOS mission was initiated by the Norwegian Space Agency (NOSA) and is part of the Arctic Surveillance Program initiative from NOSA, the Norwegian Armed Forces, the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (Forsvarets Forskningsinstitutt, FFI) and the Coastal Administration. It will be the precursor to a series of satellites for space-based maritime surveillance. When completed, the first part of AOS program will, offering real-time satellite-based surveillance services to support and secure Norwegian national interests and sovereignty at sea. 12 Nov 24. ORBIT Communication Systems has been contracted by an undisclosed European integrator to deliver its OceanTRx 4MIL satellite communication (Satcom) systems for an unidentified Nato navy. Scheduled for delivery next year, the systems are set to be installed on military maritime platforms. The value of the contract is $3m. The OceanTRx 4MIL Quad-Band Satcom system, recently launched by Orbit, is based on the OceanTRx4 system and includes advanced features adapted for military platforms. Ovzon has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for an integrated solution including mobile satellite terminals and Ovzon 3 based SATCOM service to enable a unique implementation and demonstration with unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). The demonstration will take place during second half of November in Sweden. Ovzon’s SATCOM solutions are industry leading and can support sovereign use cases where services can be controlled within a country’s borders, while deployed anywhere in the world. 09 Nov 24. US almost doubles contract ceiling for C-UAS to fund urgent requirement. A procurement action notice by the United States Department of Defense states that it is increasing the Counter Unmanned Systems (CUxS) Systems Integration Partner (SIP) contract ceiling on the current Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract from USD 967,599,957.09 to USD 1,917,599,957.09. “The contract ceiling increase is required to fulfil immediate C-UxS capability expansion and support requirements anticipated from Ukraine and Israel, supplemental funding for USSOCOM, United States Army, United States Marine Corps (USMC) and other government agencies,” the notice reads. In January 2022, January 2022, the USSOCOM (United States Special Operations Command) Directorate of Procurement awarded the SIP production contract to Anduril Industries, Inc. as a 10-year (IDIQ). Based on the current high threat environment driving an increased force protection footprint for deployed special operations forces (SOF), USSOCOM says it is now facing “urgent procurement demands” in support of SOF and its partners. “Due to the urgency of the pending requirements, USSOCOM has determined that, in accordance with FAR 6.302-1(a)(2)(ii), no other responsible source will satisfy agency requirements with the available technical data without incurring substantial duplication of cost that is not expected to be recovered through competition,” the procurement action notice states. Avon Protection, renowned leader in innovative personal protective equipment, has been awarded three contracts by the US Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) ASPIRE HMI (Advanced System for Protection and Integrated Reduction of Encumbrances Hood/Mask Interface) program, which is executed by the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND). Serco, the international provider of services to Governments, announced today that the Company has received a recompete contract to continue supporting the U.S. Army’s mission to provide globally responsive strategic logistics capabilities and materiel readiness in support of the full range of military operations. The five-year contract has one base year and four one-year option periods, with an estimated value of $73 m, if all options are exercised. Under this contract, Serco’s team will provide acquisition and cost analysis, strategic program mission support, contingency and operational planning, and global training and exercises in over 25 locations across 13 countries.

As lead integrator will continue work on multi-sensor detection system for manned and unmanned platforms designed to safeguard troops from CBRN threats. Teledyne FLIR Defense, part of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY), announced it has been awarded a five-year, $168.3m Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract by the U.S. Army for low-rate initial production to upgrade the M1135 Stryker’s Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle (NBCRV) Sensor Suite. (NASDAQ: CMTL) (“Comtech” or the “Company”), a global technology leader, announced today that the U.S. Navy Information Warfare Systems Command awarded the Company a sole source contract for Comtech’s U.S sovereign software-defined SLM-5650B satellite communications (“SATCOM”) modems, upgrade kits, firmware options and technical support. The contract has a four-year period of performance and is valued in excess of $50.0m. Funded orders received to date are valued at approximately $2m. Currently, multiple U.S. Navy programs field thousands of Comtech SATCOM modems. 14 Nov 24. The Canadian government has awarded Rheinmetall a major order for the production of 85 heavy recovery vehicles to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) as part of the Enhanced Recovery Capability (ERC) project. The five-year purchase agreement, worth $325m CAD (around €215m), includes vehicles, recovery equipment and other modifications. The first deliveries are scheduled for 2027. A supplementary $28.9m CAD (around €20m) multi-year in-service support contract has also been awarded to Rheinmetall. Serving as prime contractor, Rheinmetall Canada will replace the CAF’s heavy logistic vehicle wheeled recovery fleet with 85 HX 8×8 trucks, each equipped with a heavy towing and recovery module. This will provide the CAF with enhanced capabilities to effectively recover and tow their latest generation of heavier armoured and logistical vehicles. The new HX heavy recovery vehicles also provide additional capabilities, such as an integrated rotary crane that can be used for container handling and for other crane work.
