Saab has received an order from the UK to provide Carl-Gustaf M4 recoilless rifle training systems for use by the British Army, as the service continues its introduction of the weapon system following the order of a small batch in 2023. According to a late-August social media post from Saab, the order will see M4 ‘outdoor trainer’ systems provided, which includes replica launchers that provide the same form, fit, and function as the live weapon, as well as a ballistic tables and temperature index to replicate the use of live ammunition. 27 Aug 24. Denmark’s €1.34bn deal secures CV9035 MKIIIC vehicles upgrade. Forsvarsministeriets Materiel—og Indkøbsstyrelse (FMI) bypassed competition in purchasing advanced armoured vehicles from Sweden’s BAE Systems Hägglunds AB. Denmark’s Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (FMI) has committed nearly 10bn DKK to procure 115 CV9035 MKIIIC armoured vehicles to add to its military capability. Denmark has invested in its military capabilities with the recent announcement of a 9.975bn DKK (approx. €1.34bn) direct award contract for the procurement of 115 CV9035 MKIIIC infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs). 29 Aug 24. MilDef wins order from Norwegian NDMA for delivery of computers to CV90 combat vehicles, worth SEK 72m. MilDef continues its long-standing collaboration with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) and has now been entrusted with the delivery of 900 rugged computers for the modernization of Norway’s existing fleet of CV90 combat vehicles. The order value amounts to SEK 72 m and deliveries will take place in 2025. The order is part of the framework agreement that MilDef has had since 2020 with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) and which is about providing cutting-edge military IT solutions to support the Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency. The order includes MilDef’s customized and rugged computers that now replace older computers in the Norwegian Armed Forces’ CV90 combat vehicle, built by BAE Systems Hägglunds in Örnsköldsvik.
30 Aug 24. Saab has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the Giraffe 1X radar for one of Sweden’s Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) solutions. The contract period is 2024-2027 and the order value is approximately SEK 700m. The order includes Saab’s Giraffe 1X radar, associated command and control systems and integration to a Swedish GBAD solution. The radar will be installed on a Sisu GTP armoured vehicle.

Exail Robotics Belgium announced an order worth of nearly 60m Euros for K-Ster C underwater mine disposal vehicles, K-Ster CT training vehicles and associated equipment to the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). These advanced systems are primarily intended for the Belgian and Royal Netherlands navies. Exail Robotics Belgium is pleased to announce the order worth of nearly 60m Euros for K-Ster C underwater mine disposal vehicles, K-Ster CT training vehicles and associated equipment to the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). A joint venture between Lockheed Martin (LMT.N), opens new tab and RTX’s (RTX.N), Raytheon was awarded a $1.3bn follow-on contract by the U.S. army for its Javelin missiles, which has played a major role in Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion, Lockheed said on Thursday. The US Department of Defense (DoD) has awarded Florida-based BAE Systems Jacksonville Ship Repair a $26.2m modification to a previously awarded contact to perform a post shakedown availability (PSA) for an as-yet undelivered US Navy Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). Detailing the award on 23 August, the DoD stated that the PSA would be performed on LCS 29 (the USS Beloit), with work due to take place in Mayport, Florida, and expected to be completed in February 2026. Launched in 2022, the USS Beloit is currently undergoing outfitting at Fincantieri Marinette Marine, with construction first starting in 2020. 29 Aug 24. Raytheon Co., McKinney, Texas, was awarded a $51,754,623 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for the Defense Experimentation Using Commercial Space Internet program. This contract seeks multi-band, satellite communications antennas capable of use on military aircraft. Work will be performed in McKinney, Texas, and is expected to be completed by May 22, 2027. This contract was the result of a competitive acquisition, and 15 offers were received. Fiscal 2024 research, development, test and evaluation funds in the amount of $10,000,000 are being obligated at the time of award. Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the contracting activity (FA2385-24-C-B037).
23 Aug 24. Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Co., Stratford, Connecticut, was awarded a $52,192,314 modification (P00060) to contract W58RGZ-22-C-0010 for HH-60M Black Hawk helicopters. Work will be performed in Stratford, Connecticut, with an estimated completion date of June 30, 2027. Fiscal 2022 and 2023 aircraft procurement, Army funds in the amount of $52,192,314 were obligated at the time of the award. Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.

The Department of Defense announced today a $6.56m award via the Defense Production Act Investment (DPAI) office to Montana Technological University (Montana Tech), located in Butte, Montana. The award will fund the development and delivery of a critical workforce development program that will allow trainees to upskill their capabilities in metallurgical, geological, mining, and environmental engineering. The project directly bolsters the 2024 National Defense Industrial Strategy’s aim to expand support for domestic production of critical minerals and prepare the workforce for future technological innovation.

US small-arms manufacturer SIG Sauer has signed a contract with the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) to supply the Indian Army with an additional 73,000 SIG716 7.62×51 mm rifles. 26 Aug 24. India – Anti-Submarine Warfare Sonobuoys. The US Secretary of State has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of India of Anti-Submarine Warfare Sonobuoys and related equipment for an estimated cost of $52.8m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today. The Government of India has requested to buy AN/SSQ-53G High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare (HAASW) sonobuoys; AN/SSQ-62F HAASW sonobuoys; AN/SSQ-36 sonobuoys; technical and publications and data documentation; U.S. Government and contractor engineering and technical support; and other related elements of logistics and program services and support. The estimated total cost is $52.8m. This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to strengthen the United States-India strategic relationship and improving the security of a major defense partner which continues to be an important force for political stability, peace, and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia regions. The proposed sale will improve India’s capability to meet current and future threats by enhancing its capacity to conduct anti-submarine warfare operations from its MH-60R helicopters. India will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The principal contractor(s) will be Sparton Corporation, located in De Leon Springs, FL, or Undersea Sensor Systems Inc. (USSI), located in Columbia City, IN, or a combination of both. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale. 29 Aug 24. Rohde & Schwarz Australia Secures Hunter Class Frigate Communications Contract.
- The Royal Australian Navy’s first three Hunter class frigates will be fitted with Rohde & Schwarz’ world-leading NAVICS communications technology under a contract with BAE Systems Maritime Australia (BAESMA).
Rohde & Schwarz Australia will deliver integrated communication and control systems into the first batch of three Hunter class frigates, the Australian variant of the BAE Systems-designed and built Global Combat Ship. NAVICS will be the central nervous system of the Hunter frigate’s communications system, providing integrated and reliable internal and external communications and the processing classified information, within a multi-level security environment.
Rohde & Schwarz has operated in Australia for more than 40 years, establishing a sovereign integrated communications system (ICS) and service delivery capability in Australia. The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Australia of AH-64E Apache Sustainment Support Services and related equipment for an estimated cost of $300m. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.
The Government of Australia has requested to buy AH-64E Apache sustainment support services, including U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; technical data and publications; personnel training; and other related elements of logistics, and program support. The estimated total cost is $300m.
This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States. Australia is one of our most important allies. The strategic location of this political and economic power contributes significantly to ensuring peace and economic stability in the Western Pacific. It is vital to the U.S. national interest to assist our ally in developing and maintaining a strong and ready self-defense capability. The proposed sale will improve Australia’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing the necessary sustainment support to successfully employ its AH-64E Apache helicopters. It will also improve Australia’s capability to support coalition operations and contribute to mutual security goals in the region. Australia will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment and services into its armed forces.
The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The principal contractors will be The Boeing Company, located in Mesa, AZ, and Lockheed Martin, located in Orlando, FL. 26 Aug 24. Embraer today announced the sale of up to six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft to the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU). The contract, which is part of a fleet renew program to expand FAU’s operational capacity, provides for the acquisition of one aircraft plus the commitment to acquire five additional units, with deliveries scheduled from 2025, including mission equipment, integrated logistics services and a flight simulator. With this order, Uruguay becomes the sixth nation to operate the A-29 Super Tucano in South America along with Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Paraguay. Due to its operational flexibility in the South American region, the aircraft is used for several missions, mainly for control of illegal activities, border monitoring, reconnaissance and advanced training. A regional fleet of more than 160 Super Tucanos operate in the most austere and demanding environments in South America, from the humid and warm Amazon rainforest, the cold regions of southern Chile to the heat of the desert further north, from mountainous regions of Colombia and Ecuador to the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
