Under the Hypersonic Technologies & Capability Development Framework (HTCDF), Amentum has secured a place across all lots and as such is eligible to bid for contracts that will deliver a comprehensive suite of services to the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) encompassing advanced research, state-of-art simulation, edge technology development, seamless solutions integration, and rigorous testing.  The HTCDF framework, valued up to $1.25bn (£1bn) over the next seven years, has been established to accelerate development of a sovereign UK Hypersonic Strike Capability, whilst bolstering AUKUS collaboration with Australia and the United States. 17 Jun 24. Exail has secured a major contract with Rheinmetall to supply 1004 units of its Advans Ursa inertial navigation systems (INS) for integration into the German Army Caracal 4×4 vehicles. This agreement follows Rheinmetall’s recent larger contract to provide more than 3,000 Caracal airmobile platforms to the German and the Netherlands armed forces. Built on Exail’s Fiber-Optic Gyroscope (FOG) technology, the Advans Ursa is a compact and cost-effective INS tailored for tactical navigation. It provides precise and reliable navigation data in challenging environments, enabling Caracal vehicles to navigate accurately even in complete GNSS-denied conditions, without limitations on time or distance. These capabilities, along with a very low cost of ownership, make the Advans Ursa well-suited for all tactical vehicle fleets. As a plug-and-play device with no periodic maintenance needed, it allows for quick swaps or installations in the field to support the diverse tasks of Caracal vehicles, including special forces operations, logistics missions, and support for airmobile formations.

 

18 Jun 24. HENSOLDT is supplying an unspecified number of state-of-the-art optical vision systems for the PUMA infantry fighting vehicle. The customers are the system houses KNDS and Rheinmetall, which produce the PUMA infantry fighting vehicle and distribute it through the jointly founded PSM GmbH. The order value is in the double-digit million range. In addition to the vision systems for the turrets of the infantry fighting vehicles, the order also includes the equipment for twelve turret trainers for training vehicle crews. With this delivery, HENSOLDT is helping to improve the PUMA on the K-Stand S1.  The order consists of the delivery of the turret-independent stabilised main optics PERI-RTWL for the commander and the turret-bound stabilised fire control optronics WAO for the gunner. Three high-performance sensors are integrated in each of the two sighting systems: A third-generation ATTICA thermal imaging device, an eye-safe laser rangefinder with a long range, a highly sensitive day vision camera in the WAO and a scanning camera in the PERI, which films the high-performance glass-optical channel.

 

17 Jun 24. Thales has won a major contract to supply all three branches of the Irish Defence Forces with software-defined radios systems and related support services. The agreement covers the initial provision of over 3,500 SquadNet tactical radios and around 2,500 radios from the SYNAPS product family. The Framework Agreement positions Thales as a key partner for the Irish Defence Forces.

17 Jun 24. The Kingdom of Belgium will procure 15 multi-role H145M helicopters for the army and two helicopters plus three options for the Federal Police. The contract was signed between the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), on behalf of Belgium, and Airbus Helicopters.

 

17 Jun 24. Collins Aerospace, an RTX (NYSE: RTX) business, announced today that the French Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) has selected the company’s vehicle-mounted Air Traffic Navigation, Integration, and Coordination System (ATNAVICS) for the tactical control, approach and landing capabilities of the French Armée de Terre.  With this order, France joins the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Air Force in the use of this solution for rapid ground control approach deployment. The announcement took place at Eurosatory during a signing ceremony with representatives from both parties.  Packaged into the most capable, lightweight and compact configuration available, ATNAVICS provides air traffic services for the rapid deployment of troops and equipment to remote locations or in support of humanitarian missions in severe environments.

 

19 Jun 24.  HENSOLDT is now equipping the German Armed Forces with 90 additional Spotter 42. The enhanced Spotter complements HENSOLDT’s Spotter 60, which are already in use in the troops, and replaces a predecessor model. Compared to the Spotter 60, the magnification range of the Spotter 42 starts at six times instead of twenty times. The Spotter 42 is therefore optimised for use with night vision and thermal imaging attachments (NSV and IRV). The result is a significant improvement in observation capability in restricted visibility conditions.

Astronics Corporation (Nasdaq: ATRO), a leading provider of advanced technologies for global aerospace, defense and other mission critical industries, announced today it has been awarded the production contract for the U.S. Army Radio Test Set TS-4549/T. The award provides for the program management, engineering, and product manufacturing to support the operational readiness of the Army’s extensive range of radio communication devices. The firm-fixed price, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract has a total value of up to $215m with an expected period of performance of five years. The contract was awarded with an initial delivery order of $15.5m to cover qualification and low-rate initial production. LeoLabs announces it has been selected by AFWERX for a SBIR Phase II contract in the amount of $1.245m focused on S-band 2-D Direct Radiating Array (DRA) to address the most pressing challenges in the Department of the Air Force (DAF). The Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX have partnered to streamline the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) process by accelerating the small business experience through faster proposal to award timelines, changing the pool of potential applicants by expanding opportunities to small business and eliminating bureaucratic overhead by continually implementing process improvement changes in contract execution. This contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $1,130,051,137. Work will be performed in Bath, Maine, and is expected to be completed by July 31, 2029. Fiscal 2024 operation and maintenance (Navy) funds in the amount of $5,992,369 (45%); and fiscal 2024 other procurement (Navy) funds in the amount of $7,216,706 (55%), will be obligated at time of award, of which $5,992,369 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. 17 Jun 24. US Space Systems Command contract Blue Origin, SpaceX, for space access. Award under Lane 1 of the NSSL Phase 3 programme, valued at more than $5bn, will see three companies provide commercial-grade launch services for US military operation in space. The US Space Systems Command (SSC) has contracted a series of space launch providers in a multi-bn-dollar deal to deliver military capabilities into orbit as part of the National Security Space Launch (NSSL) Phase 3 Lane 1 programme. Awarded companies include Blue Origin, Space Exploration Technologies (also known as SpaceX), and United Launch Services, under a multiple-award, firm-fixed-price (FFP), indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract with a maximum cumulative ceiling of $5.6bn for launch services procurement.   In a 13 June 2024, contract notice issued by the US Department of Defense (DoD), it was stated that the contract will include a five-year ordering period which will continue through to June 2029, with an option for an additional ordering period of five years. 14 Jun 24. Frontier Technology Inc. (FTI) was one of twenty companies selected by the Space Rapid Capabilities Office (Space RCO) to compete for work under the Rapid Resilient Command and Control (R2C2) indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract to assist in the development of a next-generation ground software system for military satellites. The R2C2 IDIQ was competed as a small business set-aside and seeks to build a ground system on a commercial cloud architecture to support dynamic space operations missions. Through this IDIQ contract, Space RCO will compete and issue task orders for software tools and infrastructure designed to enable Space Force operators to reposition satellites and perform other operations in a more agile manner. A Space RCO spokesperson said the Combined Program Office will procure software systems in “bite-sized” pieces and expects to award the initial task orders in the next few months. NASA has selected Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] to develop and build the nation’s next generation weather satellite constellation, Geostationary Extended Observations (GeoXO), for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The baseline contract is for three spacecraft with options for four additional spacecraft. The total estimated value of the contract including options is $2.27bn. The GeoXO mission will continue and expand upon critical observations of weather provided by the Lockheed Martin-built GOES-R Series geostationary satellites to include new observations of our oceans and air pollution. GeoXO’s new capabilities will deliver more accurate weather forecasting and address emerging environmental issues and challenges that threaten our economy and safety. GeoXO and the nation’s weather satellites are vital infrastructure for national resilience.

 

13 Jun 24. Raytheon, an RTX (NYSE: RTX) business, was awarded a $506m contract from NASA to design and build the Landsat Next Instrument Suite (LandIS), which includes three next generation space instruments, with an option for an additional instrument. The instrument suite will perform Earth observation from three identical observatories from Low-Earth orbit. Through multispectral imaging technology, LandIS will collect images of the Earth’s surface every six days, detecting natural and human-induced changes.  Data from Landsat Next and the LandIS sensors will offer critical information about land use, crop production, weather activities, and natural resources. The next generation instrument will help to identify patterns that may have been missed in prior missions due to timing of image collection or image fidelity, helping agencies to respond to natural disasters, human migration, and environmental disasters. 17 Jun 24. The Australian federal government has announced the details of a new $150m industry grant program for the defence industry. Minister for International Development and the Pacific and Minister for Defence Industry Pat Conroy said the new program is expected to grow Australian defence industry, according to a public statement released on 17 June. The Defence Industry Development Grant (DIDG) program, announced in the Defence Industry Development Strategy, is expected to soon be open for applications. The new grant program will provide over $150m over four years dedicated to supporting Australian small- to medium-sized business in areas of sovereign industrial priorities, exports, skilling, and security. 17 Jun 24. Arquus announced new contract with Barzan Holdings, strengthening our industrial collaboration. Today at Eurosatory, Arquus welcomes Barzan Holdings on its booth (Hall 5a – F127) to sign contract for the modernisation of 54 VABs realised in Qatar.  Local modernisation programme for Qatar Armed Forces’ VAB fleet The Qatar Armed Forces initially acquired VAB Mk1 vehicles in 1982, which have been supported by Arquus since then. In 2018, QAF decided to extend the life of these vehicles and signed a modernisation contract with Arquus. This vast programme includes not only the modernisation and modification of the vehicles but also their repair and the training of both industrial and military personnel in France and Qatar.  The first VABs is being modernised in France, while a production line is being established at a military base in Qatar. To date, 126 vehicles have been successfully modernised.

 

17 Jun 24. The Brazilian Air Force acquires the Ground Master 200 Multi-mission All-in-one (GM 200 MM/A) tactical air surveillance radars, reinforcing air sovereignty capabilities. The Department of Airspace Control (DECEA), through the Airspace Control System Implementation Commission (CISCEA), has signed a contract for the acquisition of Ground Master Multi-Mission “All-in-One” radars in order to enhance Brazil’s air surveillance capability. To protect airspace, the Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission radar family covers the whole spectrum of threats, from low mini-drones to faster, more agile targets at longer ranges, while retaining a very high tactical mobility and a very short deployment time. More than 250 radars from the GM family have been sold worldwide. The GM200 MM/A is designed for modern multi-mission air surveillance and GBAD missions, figuring amongst the most flexible radars on the market today – offering radar operators instant superior situational awareness. 17 Jun 24. The Kingdom of Morocco has recently announced the acquisition of ten Harpoon Block II anti-ship missiles and SLAM-ER cruise missiles from Boeing. This move is part of an ongoing effort to enhance the capabilities of the Royal Moroccan Air Force by integrating these missiles into the F-16 Viper combat aircraft. A total of 24 advanced-version jets are expected to be delivered by 2026.
