29 Jun 05. Clarification of the rumoured sale of the whole of the Thales Optronics Group was given to BATTLESPACE today at DVD. A spokesman told the Editor that it was just the HTO(High Technology Optics) Group in St Asaph that manufacturers telescopes and the Kite family of riffle sights that is being sold to a U.S. Venture Capital Group, not the whole of Thales’s Optronics UK, Singapore and French operations as previous information suggested. The HTO business is not core to the Thales UK operations we were told.
29 Jun 05. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the AEI company, the UK Company handling the subcontract for the FCLV remote overhead weapon station has gone into receivership last week. Some of the problems involve conflict with the Israeli company, Rafael who licensed the system. Thales bid their OHWS, developed in the UK and told BATTLESPACE that they could not compete on the price offered by AEI. It is not known who will take over this contract from AEI.
