29 Dec 16. Leonardo-Finmeccanica Acquires Sistemi Dinamici. Leonardo-Finmeccanica acquired the full control of Sistemi Dinamici S.p.A from IDS S.p.A on December 23rd. The control of the company, which involved the remaining 60 percent of shares, is aimed at further strengthening the commitment of Leonardo in unmanned products thanks to the acquisition of the new unmanned lightweight helicopter SD-150 Hero programme.
Leonardo now widens its unmanned helicopter portfolio, which also includes the SW-4 Solo, and consolidates its capabilities as a system integrator, developing both platforms and equipment and sensors.
Mauro Moretti, CEO and General Manager of Leonardo said: “This acquisition is a testament to the quality of our investments in the field of unmanned systems, a sector with high added value in which Leonardo is a leader in Europe. Thanks to a defined investment strategy, our portfolio is further enriched, making Leonardo even more competitive and ready to meet the future challenges in advanced technologies.”

22 Dec 16. AIT to Acquire Nova-Tech Engineering. Based in Lynnwood, WA, Nova-Tech is a designer and integrator of critical assembly automation, materials handling and friction stir welding equipment and tooling for the aerospace and space launch industries. Nova-Tech’s talented engineering and executive team will join the AIT family while continuing to operate as a distinct business line and brand led by Nova-Tech’s CEO, William B. (“Benny”) Teal.
“In our industry, Nova-Tech is synonymous with engineering excellence and dedicated customer service,” said Ed Chalupa, AIT’s Chairman and CEO. “Benny and his team have established a culture that perfectly exemplifies the entrepreneurship and innovation that has always driven the aerospace industry forward. Nova-Tech’s strong presence in international markets and adjacent sectors like space launch is particularly unique in our industry.”
“The adoption of automation in aerospace is accelerating, just as the automation supply base is consolidating offshore,” said Teal. “It’s exciting to have a partner in this environment and to be a part of a platform with this scale of technology and engineering talent.”
AIT’s investment in Nova-Tech represents its second transaction in the aerospace automation sector following the purchase earlier this month of KUKA Systems Aerospace North America (as recently reorganized) in a carve-out transaction from KUKA Systems North America LLC.
The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. (Source: Yahoo!/BUSINESS WIRE)

22 Dec 16. China’s Wanfeng acquires Canadian aerospace firm. Chinese company Wanfeng Aviation has acquired a controlling stake in the Canadian subsidiary of Austrian aerospace firm Diamond Aircraft Industries, it was announced on 21 December.
Diamond Aircraft said in a statement that Wanfeng has acquired 60% of the total shares in Diamond Canada, based in Ontario, but did not reveal the value of the transaction.
Diamond Aircraft said the investment by Wanfeng will “support expanded production, sales and service activities globally with a strengthened focus on the US market”. The company added that its Austrian headquarters is not part of the deal. “Diamond Aircraft Industries GmbH, (Diamond Austria), remains completely independent and will assist production and development activities in the Canadian company,” it said.
