August 9, 2007 by

23 Jul 07. MoD: Report and Accounts Published. The MoD’s Annual Report and Accounts 2006/07 have been published (23 Jul 07). The “comprehensive overview of Defence” has two main sections: the first being the performance report for 2006/07 and the second the MoD resource accounts for the same period. Eight annexes containing background information about the MoD complete the 358-page document.
Comment: The Report and Accounts is an interesting record for the year ended 31 Mar 07, but is otherwise of limited value to the Defence community. In an accompanying Press notice, the MoD admitted that the Armed Forces’ “ability to take on additional Operations is limited”. The Report and Accounts is available online (www.mod.uk) and from TSO and The Parliamentary Bookshop (Tel: 020-7219 3890), as HC 697, for £40:00.

24 Jul 07. Strategic Export Controls: 2006 Report Published. The Government’s 2006 Annual Report on Strategic Export Controls has been published (24 Jul 07). The Report “describes UK policy and international developments in export control regimes, as well as including information on licensing decisions made during 2006”. At Table 4.4, the Report lists 137 countries which accounted for £2,059m worth of military equipment exports delivered during 2006.
Comment: The figure of £2,059m only covers “Identified Defence Equipment Exports” and not “Additional Aerospace Equipment and Services” as accounted for by the Society of British Aerospace Companies.
The Report is available online (www.fco.gov.uk) and from TSO and The Parliamentary Bookshop, as Command 7141, for £25:00. (Source: DNA DEFENCE NEWS ANALYSIS, Issue 0731, 06 Aug 07)
