12 Apr 12. Research and Markets announced the addition of iCD Research’s new report “The Thai Defense Industry – Market Opportunities, Entry Strategies, Analyses and Forecasts to 2016” to their offering. The Thai Defense Industry Market Opportunities and Entry Strategies, Analyses and Forecasts to 2016 offers the reader insights into the market opportunities and entry strategies adopted by foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to gain market share in the Thai defense industry. What is the current market landscape and what is changing? Thailand, the third largest country in Southeast Asia, has one of the fastest growing defense markets in the world. As a consequence of years of defense budget underfunding, country’s military spending is anticipated to increase during the forecast period as the country’s armed forces undergo an extensive modernization program. As a result of this the country’s military expenditure as a percentage of GDP is projected to increase during the forecast period. Thai defense expenditure is expected to be driven by factors such as security threats, modernization plans, border disputes and an ongoing arms race within the Southeast Asian region.

12 Apr 12. Research and Markets announced the addition of the “Kuwait Defense and Security Report Q2 2012” report to their offering. The influence of the Arab Spring spread to Kuwait in late 2011, as protests that began in September culminated in the storming of parliament in Kuwait City by dozens of demonstrators on November 16. However, the emir subsequently proved responsive to the demands of the protesters, first accepting the resignation of the cabinet, including the prime minister, and then dissolving parliament in December. He also announced the appointment of Sheikh Jaber al-Hamad al-Sabah, formerly the defense minister, as the new prime minister. These moves appeared to quell the popular unrest, suggesting the Kuwaiti protests were aimed more at ousting a prime minister perceived to be corrupt rather than at toppling the status quo, as has been the case elsewhere during the Arab Spring. There was at any rate no repeat of the late 2011 unrest in the early part of 2012. (Source: BUSINESS WIRE)
