4 Apr 02. BAE SYSTEMS has announced the appointment of Chris Geoghegan as Chief Operating Officer, responsible for Operational, Capital and Shared Services Businesses. Chris will also take leadership of the Commercial Function throughout the company as part of his responsibilities. Mike Turner, Chief Executive, will retain the responsibilities he previously held for the company’s relationship with Airbus.
Prior to assuming his duties as one of the three Chief Operating Officers of the company, Chris was Group Managing Director of Avionics Group. Chris has been with BAE SYSTEMS and its predecessor companies in various roles since 1976.
Nick Franks is appointed Group Managing Director, Avionics Group. He was previously Managing Director, Gripen and South Africa.
Comment: BAE SYSTEMS has still to fully clarify the sudden departure of John Weston. BATTLESPACE sources suggest that John Weston had raised the hackles of other Main Board Directors by trying to dictate certain policies to the Board. In addition the MoD was believed to be unhappy with some of his tactics with regard to a number of large contracts such as Type 45 and Nimrod
