Excelitas has used this year’s AUSA to show off a new range of advanced technologies. This large exhibit confirms not only the extensive technology inherent within Excelitas but how the company has expanded into areas outside its traditional camera and EO/IR systems.
“This year at AUSA Excelitas builds on its heritage as a global technology leader delivering innovative, customized solutions for mission-critical defense and aerospace applications. On our booth (300) we are showing the latest long range surveillance systems alongside cutting edge weapon sighting capability for the Dismounted User. Our experts are on hand to advise.” Craig Taylor of Qioptiq told the Editor.
Excelitas supports safer landing of helicopters in extreme conditions
The unique solutions provided by Excelitas are intended to support system designers of Laser Turbulence Systems. The CIPRM – Coherent InGaAs PIN Balanced Receiver Module allows the detection of small changes above the interfering noise floor of incoming optical signals, cancelling out the common optical noise. This module, as well as our hybrid receivers – from the C30659 series, are used to detect obstacles around helicopters operating in brownout situations, as well as detecting turbulence of aerosols which ultimately aids smoother flight trajectories.
Eric Desfonds – Product Leader explains “this enables the design of systems to ease safer landing of helicopters in extreme conditions. Further detection of wind turbulence can ultimately help save fuel and insure smoother flight paths for personnel.”
Beyond the standard catalog parts, Excelitas can provide further custom packaging, screening and qualification to meet the most stringent operating conditions. ITAR-free and BAFA-free solutions are available.
Excelitas expanding Laser Range Finder (LRF) Receivers Capability.
Laser Range Finders will benefit from improved Emitter and Receiver capability over longer distances.
Excelitas is expanding capacity for InGaAs APD designed for Laser Range Finder (LRF) Receivers, as well as introducing a new generation of Pulsed Laser Diodes for LRF Emitters. Receivers have fast response and high optical dynamics for long distance Range Finders. Emitters operate at eye safe wavelengths of 1550nm and offers an improved efficiency.
Eric Desfonds – Product leader explains “The new generation of 1550nm Pulsed Laser Diode have a much better efficiency than previous generations. That allows up to 100W of optical peak power with reduced use of battery power on hand-held devices.”
Laser Range Finders will benefit from improved Emitter and Receiver capability over much longer distances, which will also deliver lower false alarms during operation. Beyond the standard catalog parts, Excelitas can provide further custom packaging, screening and qualification to meet the most stringent operating conditions, providing ITAR-free and BAFA-free solutions.

MIL-STD 1275G compliance is a must for critical vehicular systems and compliance with complex military standards and is at the forefront of our design activities helping our customers ensure mission success.
We have the power – saving the smart bombs
Excelitas Technologies introduces better efficiency Pulsed Laser Diodes and fast photodiodes as Emitters and Receivers for Laser Proximity Sensors.
Excelitas is introducing better efficiency 905nm Pulsed Laser Diodes for Laser Proximity Sensors, together with a range of fast photodiodes – offering both the Emitter and the Receiver of Laser Proximity Sensor from the same manufacturer in Canada.
The better efficiency of the Pulsed Laser Diode allows designers of Laser Proximity Sensors to save power on board missiles and smart bombs. Low-cost and Surface-mounted design (SMD) versions are available for low cost sensors such as Height of Burst (HoB) for mortar.
“Laser Range Finders will also benefit from improved Emitter and Receiver for longer distance and low false alarm operation as well as saving power” commented Denis Boireau – Director of Business Development.
Beyond the standard catalog parts, Excelitas can provide further custom packaging, screening and qualification to meet the most stringent operating conditions. ITAR-free and BAFA-free solutions are available.
Excelitas ready to support demand for heated YAG-enhanced quadrant photodiodes.
Excelitas stand ready to support worldwide demand for heated YAG-enhanced quadrant photodiodes for the precision guided munition market, providing safer engagement distances for warfighters.
Intended for, amongst other applications, Munition guidance, Semi-Active Laser (SAL) seeker, Laser Spot Tracking (LST), and Laser seeker header, etc. Our extensive capability means we are ready to support both common cathode (N-type) and the continued support of common anode (P-type) seeker designs. Heating increases performance while smaller active areas enable guidance for smaller weapons, such as smart grenades and mortars.
Eric Desfonds – Product Leader, said “Localized heating of the Silicon photodiode, while slightly increasing the noise of the photodiode, greatly increases the responsivity. Rapid heating allows faster locking-in from a farther distance and safer engagement distances for warfighters.” Beyond the standard catalog parts, Excelitas can provide further custom packaging, screening and qualification to meet the most stringent operating conditions, delivering ITAR-free and BAFA-free solutions.
