07 Oct 22. Lockheed Martin Australia unveils veteran employment initiative. A new program has been launched to boost employment opportunities for ex-service men and women.
Lockheed Martin Australia has announced the launch of its inaugural Military Veterans Employee Resource Group (MilVet ERG), established to support recruitment, development, sustainment, inclusion, empowerment and retainment of Australia’s veteran community.
The program aims to increase awareness of veteran-related events, while also endeavouring to improve the employee value proposition for veterans via a strong professional network.
MilVet ERG, developed by LMA’s own veteran cohort, is underpinned by three key pillars — data, people, and networks.
- Strong data tools and analysis aim to drive HR strategies.
- Learning opportunities aim to develop employee understanding of diversity and inclusion and its importance at Lockheed Martin.
- Networks aim to be cultivated to increase veteran workforce social capital and provide meaningful career opportunities to ensure long-term career success within defence industry.
Lockheed Martin Australia chief executive Warren McDonald AO, CSC, said the program is a reflection of the company’s commitment to the veteran community, with veterans making up 22 per cent of LMA’s 1,200 local workforce.
“Having served more than 40 years with the Royal Australian Air Force, I am proud to launch a program that both supports and strengthens our veteran workforce,” he said. (Source: Defence Connect)
SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has been providing lifelong support to our Forces and their families since 1885. In 2020, our teams of volunteers and employees helped more than 79,000 people in need, the currently serving (both regulars and reserves), veterans from the Second World War and those who have served in more recent conflicts, as well as their families. SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. And we are here for that person – any time they need us, in any way they need us, for as long as they need us.
