01 Nov 23. Exsel Group, a leading independent defence technology solutions company, is proud to announce it has been awarded a prestigious Gold Award by the UK’s Ministry of Defence and its Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS). The award is in acknowledgement of the company’s continued commitment to supporting the armed forces community and the Armed Forces Covenant.
The awards, which took place at the notable Royal Air Force Club in London, saw directors from the company receive the honourable Gold Award amongst peer 18 other organisations who share the same values of continued and dedicated support for veterans and their families. The awards were presented by distinguished guests, including Air Vice-Marshal Ranald Munro, Captain Paul Hill RN, and Colonel Thammy Evans, representing the tri-service.
Lt Col (Retd) James Marment and now Exsel Group Director who attended the awards ceremony said “Exsel Group is proud to support all those in the Service of our great nation and will always support them as they, and their families, resettle into civilian life.”
For over a decade, Exsel Group has supported UK military personnel and their families as they look to transition into civilian life by providing further support and career opportunity across all of the group’s companies.
Currently, the company employs 16 veterans across all areas of its group business who abide by the same employment policies of ensuring ex-forces personnel are given the required training and support to become valued members of the company. To date this has encapsulated support for reservists, spouses of military personnel, together with presented opportunities for Cadet training.
The ERS is a coveted award that is granted to organisations who have demonstrated and proved historical support for the armed forces community. There are over 10,000 strong signatories who have pledged support for the Armed Forces Covenant since it was enshrined into law in 2011, of which those who demonstrate continued and dedicated support gain the gold recognition accolade.
As part of its Gold Award status, Exsel Group continue to advocate the benefits of supporting those within the Armed Forces community, by encouraging other organisations to sign the Armed Forces Covenant and engage with the Employer Recognition Scheme.

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has been providing lifelong support to our Forces and their families since 1885. In 2020, our teams of volunteers and employees helped more than 79,000 people in need, the currently serving (both regulars and reserves), veterans from the Second World War and those who have served in more recent conflicts, as well as their families. SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. And we are here for that person – any time they need us, in any way they need us, for as long as they need us.
