30 Jan 19. Meggitt Training Systems to Display Live-Fire and Virtual Solutions at IDEX 2019 in UAE. Meggitt Training Systems, the leading provider of integrated live-fire and virtual weapons training products and services for armed forces and law enforcement, will display a broad range of solutions on two stands during the biennial International Defence Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Feb. 17-21, 2019.

On the International Golden Group stand (#04-C20), Meggitt will display the FATS® 100MIL simulation training system. Chosen as the system of record by the US Army (EST II) and US Marine Corps (ISMT), as well as the United Kingdom and Australia, the FATS 100MIL is a major expansion in weapons training capability, introducing revolutionary features such as advanced game engine 3D marksmanship, enhanced diagnostics with intelligent automatic coaching and collective training. The system provides an impressive array of functionality for both instructor and trainee, delivering solid weapon-handling and shot-placement analytics, coaching tools that automatically highlight trainee results for reinforcement or correction, and enhanced graphic capabilities for an all-encompassing immersive training platform. The FATS 100MIL at IDEX will be complemented by a selection of wireless BlueFire® and convertible BlueRail® weapons, including the AK-47 rifle, M4 carbine, Glock G17, Taser X26P and an 81mm mortar.
At the US pavilion (#02-B31), Meggitt will showcase its extensive portfolio of live-fire products. These include a dual Pop-up Turner Target (TSIT), a 360° turning/pop-up target actuator capable of displaying friend and foe silhouette presentations, plus LOMAH (location of miss and hit) technology. Also on display will be the XWT ProImage®, a compact video projector and camera system that attaches to Meggitt’s XWT target carrier and moves downrange to any distance on the track. Wirelessly connected to a 10” lane control unit mounted to the shooting stall, the system projects interactive games, digital videos and images that a shooter can upload onto white paper or cardboard targets. Finally, event attendees can see a model of Meggitt’s GranTrap™ granulated rubber bullet trap that utilizes soft media to stop incoming rounds and capture them predominately intact. 12 Feb 19. ManPAD Simulator And More. WesCom Defence will display a selection of their key products at IDEX. The showcase includes the ManPAD Simulator, MERS Illumination Rocket and the first fragment-free impact simulator, MECoSt Simulator Impact/Thunderflash.
The ManPAD Simulator, replicates the launch and flightpath of a ground-to-air missile. Upon ignition, it provides a blast, a flare and a white smoke trail that lasts about 10 seconds to create an exact indication of a missile’s flight path, allowing for the direction a threat comes from to be visible.
In contrast, the MERS Illumination Rocket has a minimal signature at initiation and no visible signature in flight. It provides concealment from detection of the launch and is suited to carry various payloads which could be parachute suspended for large area illumination or free-falling flares for signalling purposes. Finally, the MECoSt Simulator Impact/Thunderflash creates a fragment and debris free simulation of a grenade impact and features an un-cocked striker mechanism. (Source: ESD Spotlight)
12 Feb 19. Protection And Simulation. Two key aspects of Rheinmetall’s IDEX programme are protection and simulation. For the first time, Rheinmetall is presenting its new Hybrid Protection Module. It is a hybrid module for vehicles that can be used both as a stand-alone module and as an upgrade module, combining active and passive protection technology. Passive protection components provide both interface and protection for the components of the active protection system ADS. The ADS components provide ballistic functions and characteristics. The outer protective layer protects the ADS components against fragments, small calibre bombardment and smaller mechanical loads. Different material configurations allow the hybrid protection modules to be adapted to customer requirements.
“Total Ship Training” is the integrated simulation-based approach for training com-plete ship crews ashore. Training simulators are networked to form a simulation system and thus enable both individual teams and the entire ship‘s crew to be trained together. The aim of this concept is to increase operational readiness and reduce training costs, taking into account modern requirements for intensive usability of the ship and the multi-crew concept. At IDEX, Rheinmetall will also be exhibiting the Multi Ammunition Softkill System (MASS) in various variants, air defence systems with the Skynex information and command system, the remote-controlled and network-capable Oerlikon Gun Mk3 revolver loaded on an HX77 truck, the X-TAR3D search radar, a Cheetah guided missile and a high-energy laser effector. Military systems such as Argus New Generation or Gladius 2.0, the Tactical Management System TacNet, the Rheinmetall Command and Control Software (RC2S), tactical and logistic vehicles, weapons and ammunition systems as well as networkable sensors complete the spectrum.
