OWNING THE NIGHT BLAST OFF
By Julian Nettlefold
Today’s 24-hour war subjects the infantry soldier to a complex array of demands and vulnerabilities that require new tactical and technological responses. OWNING THE NIGHT provides manufacturers with a unique opportunity to display and demonstrate the latest developments in infantry systems in both day and night conditions.
Holding a Night Vision event at night is key to enable the vendor and user alike the opportunity to see the equipment demonstrated in the right environment. Staging a night shoot and night driving demonstrations are also key to this process. ‘Owning The Night’ is a world first international Exhibition.
The Exhibition includes:
* IED night-time detection demonstration, supported by the UKTI DSO Export Support Team.
* Night driving event showcasing a range of lighting systems and DVEs.
* First live drive of a DVE and demonstration of QTQ/ISTEC spotter.
In addition to the outdoor displays and activities there will be an indoor exhibition area, featuring specialist acoustic, eyewear and clothing manufacturers.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those people who have worked tirelessly to make this unique event happen particularly the BATTLESPACE team of Andy McAllister, David Harrison and Yvonne Headington, Peter and Barbara Hobson, the Chairman and Trustees of the NRA and all the team at Bisley headed by Jeremy Staples. I would also like to thank Ken McGinty for his ideas and support to kick start the event and create the support from DRS Technologies Inc.. I would like to thank our sponsors DRS Technologies Inc, Finmeccanica UK Battlespace Solutions, FLIR Systems Inc. and Qioptiq and all Exhibitors for their huge support in making this event happen.
We could not have begun to make Owning The Night happen without the professional support of Captain Tony Green and his team from UKTI DSO who agreed to manage the Range and the Safety Case. I would also like to thank our speakers who have worked with us to create a very interesting and stimulating conference and all the staff and the managers and staff at the Clubs at Bisley who have worked so hard to make this happen.
We have already received support for an annual event at Bisley for next year entitled ‘Force Protection.’
We are producing a special issue supporting the event and will be running an email Update after the show reporting on the Demonstrations, Exhibits and Speeches.
We very much hope you enjoy the Owning The Night Exhibition and Conference and your ‘Bisley Experience.’
