ORDERS ANNOUNCED DURING DSA MALAYSIA

21 Apr 08. DSA MALAYSIA 21—24 April 2008 was held at the World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In total, 600 Exhibitors from over 40 countries covering 35,000 square metres attended the Show. There were a number of Country group pavilionsincluding, 23 from Malaysia, Turkey, Italy, France, Germany, Russia, United Kingdom, Austria, Brazil, China, India, Iran, Korea, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Australia and the USA. Over 40 companies were represented on the DMA Pavilion.

The Expected number of VVIP Government Guests was 200 from 60 countries.

The DSA Show Daily on Day 2 reported that DRB HICOM Technologies Sdn Bhd (DIFTECH), a wholly owned subsidiary of DRB-HICOM Berhad, has entered into an agreement with the Government of Malaysia for the supply and delivery to the Malaysian Army.:
1. 48 Armoured carrier Vehicle ACV-300 vehicles. The Malaysian government signed an order in 2000 to procure 211 ACV-300 vehicles, known as Adnan in Malaysia, manufactured by FNSS in Turkey. Out of 211 units, 34 units were manufactured in Turkey with the balance being assembled by Deftech in Malaysia. These vehicles are a further number to the original order.
2. 8 ACV-S 120mm Mortar Carriers
3. 87 of the 3 ton 4×4 Hicom Handalan GS Cargo
4. 200 Korean Ssangyong utility vehicles which will be assembled locally.
DRB subsidiary, Defence Services Sdn Bhd (DSSB) also entered into an agreement for the refurbishment of 21 Alvis Scorpion and 13 Alvis Stormer vehicles.
In total 14 contracts, one Letter of Acceptance (LOA), one Letter of Intent (LOI) and 3 MoUs were signed between the Malaysian MoD and local and overseas companies to the value of RM 1,129,803,598.47.

Malaysian MoD Secretary General Dato’ Haji Abu Bakar Hj Abdulah signed for the Government of Malaysia, whilst DSSB was represented by its COO Muhammad Nasir Mohd Ramly. Among the companies represented at the ceremony were DRB Hicom Technologies (Deftech), SME Ordnance, Lockheed Aeronautic Service International, Master Defence Malysia, Defence Services, Mesra Melia, High Point Worldwide, CTRM, Comlenia, BN Shipyard, TDA Armaments and AgustaWestland.

One particular important Order was that for the sup[ply of 8 2R2M 120mm Mortars from Thales subsidiary TDA Armaments (Formerly Thomson-Brandt)
In addition to these signings, the Government of the Republic of Timor-Leste (DRTL) confirmed that DEFTECH will support the force modernization of FALNTIL-FDTL.The system is the same mortar as that ordered in February of this year by Oman and by the U.S. Marine Corps. Confirming the superiority of the 120mm rifled mortar system.

An initial batch of 60 Spanish VAMTAC high mobility tactical vehicles, configured as support weapons carriers, were ordered and another v25 units as Igla carriers.
