27 Jun 09. AP reports that the Northrop Grumman Corp. and Cobham Intercoms LLC team received a $2.4 billion contract for an upgraded vehicle intercom system, according to an Army contracting notice posted Friday. The expanded intercom system will allow crew members to speak to each other in high-noise environments, and provide some with tactical headsets equipped with technology to reduce noise. It will also let crew member talk over tactical radios. Those systems will initially be installed on new tactical vehicles built, according to the notice. It is expected that the new intercom will be phased in slowly as older vehicles are refurbished. Some vehicles have been selected for the upgrade, but the government doesn’t plan to replace all of the older intercom systems, the notice said.
