21 Aug 11. Afghanistan: OP HERRICK. The Sentinel R1 aircraft of V (AC) Squadron RAF made a full return to Operations in support of US Marines,
30 Commando Brigade Reconnaissance Force and Afghan troops in Helmand Province. (RAF, 21 Aug 11.)
Afghan Forces discovered over four tonnes of illegal fertiliser (ammonium nitrate) in Khosh Kowa, East of Lashkar Gah. British Forces provided an outer cordon for the Afghans. (TFH Media Ops, 21 Aug 11.)
Afghan Police took part in a helicopter assault Operation alongside soldiers from 1st Bn The Rifles. The Operation was aimed at disrupting insurgents in the Nahr-e Saraj District. (MoD, 21 Aug 11.)
Despite experiencing “a massive explosion” a Mastiff vehicle operated by 31 Armoured Engineer Squadron only sustained minor damage. There were no casualties among the passengers. (TFH Media Ops, 23 Aug 11.)
Following the closure of RAF Lyneham the repatriation of Service personnel killed on Operations will move to RAF Brize Norton on 1 Sep 11. (MoD, 26 Aug 11.)
