21 Sep 22. Jankel signs partnerships with two UK SMEs, Atmos-clear and FuelActive to help increase Defence Sustainability. Jankel, a world-leader in the design and manufacture of high-specification defence, security and NGO protection systems, has announced partnerships with two UK technology companies, Atmos-clear and FuelActive. The partnerships form part of the Jankel Advanced Technology strategy to increase sustainability, reduce carbon emissions, increase efficiency and help to protect the environment. The announcement coincides with the DVD 2022 exhibition at Millbrook, where Jankel are showcasing a range of innovative partnerships, including these ones plus, some exciting examples of Electric Vehicle (EV) technology.
In line with and to support the UK MoD Climate Change and Sustainability Strategic Approach, the announcement of these two new collaborative agreements expands the existing Jankel Advanced Technologies portfolio and represents Jankel’s move to leverage the best of UK innovation to address the critical issues of fuel economy and defence sustainability. Jankel’s other recently announced technology partnerships include BodyTrak and Williams Advanced Engineering (both announced in late 2021). These partnerships demonstrate Jankel’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of emerging technologies, delivering solutions that bring added value capability enhancements to new and existing customers, whilst promoting UK export.
The Atmos-clear EXO devices significantly reduce fuel particulates and emissions when fitted to any existing fossil fuelled engine. The Exo 1 and the Exo 3 solutions allow fuel to burn hotter and cleaner. The two major benefits of this are a drastic reduction in harmful emissions and an increase in fuel economy. Jankel and Atmos-clear are bringing this new technology to defence and security fleets globally and will jointly support the product, once in service.
FuelActive provides defence with a fit-and-forget solution to protect engines from fuel contamination while improving fuel economy. The FuelActive solution uses an innovative design to prevent contaminants entering the vehicle’s engine. This increases fuel economy and dramatically improves engine in-service time, especially in areas with low grade or dirty fuel such as overseas operational deployments. Jankel and FuelActive will bring this new technology to defence and security fleets globally.
Jacob Jankel, Technology Lead at Jankel Group said: “British Innovation and the use of advanced technologies have been at the heart of our business since it was formed by my Grandfather Robert Jankel in 1955. It’s great to form these new partnerships with Atmos-clear and FuelActive as a continuation of that British legacy”. He added: “In addition to our continuous innovation across our own product and service lines, Jankel are also committed to the establishment of successful collaborations and partnerships to integrate the best technologies available into our products whilst using our relationships and export routes to develop new opportunities.”
21 Sep 22. TT Electronics Expands RBSL Relationship with 10-year, £10m Contract. TT Electronics to provide cable assemblies for RBSL’s Boxer programme; major contract award prompts local hiring effort by TT,
Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) has awarded a contract worth £10m to TT Electronics to supply cable assemblies for the British Army’s new Boxer vehicles prompting significant recruitment.
The contract ensures the Boxer vehicles will be equipped with electronic modules and cable harness assemblies, enabling mission critical functionality and providing safe and reliable operation for British Army Boxer crews.
An additional 10 roles will be created as a result of the latest contract, with further recruitment investment planned in 2023.
The work will be completed at TT Electronics’ manufacturing facility in Abercynon, Wales, which currently employs 140 skilled engineers and technicians.
Ben Sutton, Vice President and General Manager of TT Electronics said: “This award is recognition of the value added by TT Electronics to UK MoD programmes and continues our years-long relationship with RBSL which, to date, has equipped every operational RBSL land vehicle platform with TT Electronics solutions.
“TT’s extensive experience and track record in the defence industry gives us a unique perspective into how to deliver critical programmes like Boxer, working closely with RBSL, there is a collaborative approach across all functions, from technical support to obsolescence management.”
Colin McClean, Managing Director at RBSL added: “This latest contract award will not only help us to successfully deliver the Boxer programme for the British Army, but it also contributes to investment in UK skills, capability and the resilience of the UK defence supply chain. Both RBSL and TT Electronics have worked closely together for several years and we look forward to commencing the next phase of our relationship.”
19 Sep 22. TE Connectivity’s Raychem USB 3.1 cable provides up to 10 Gb/s data rates. Powering the next generation of aerospace applications with full legacy. USB 2.0 support and USB 3.1 power. TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensors introduces its new Raychem USB 3.1 cable, increasing data rate speeds up to 10 Gb/s. The Raychem cable was designed to support commercial and military aerospace applications and supports USB 2.0 legacy applications. With double the bandwidth of USB 3.0, the USB 3.1 cable is specifically designed for eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing), UAM (urban air mobility) and UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) applications.
“Higher data rates are becoming a staple requirement for next generation aerospace platforms,” said Greg Shirk, product manager for TE’s Aerospace, Defense and Marine division. “We know how important it is for data to get to its destination quickly to keep aerospace vehicles in the air and critical data moving. That is why we designed the USB 3.1 cable to meet and exceed current industry expectations.”
TE’s USB 3.1 cable can withstand harsh environment temperatures ranging between -65˚C up to 200˚C. From IFE (in-flight entertainment) and data transfer to missile applications and avionics systems, the new cable helps reduce harnessing time and cost. Compared to industry-standard tape wrap constructions in the marketplace, TE’s construction implements the use of an extruded component and jacket which can lead to a more simplified termination.
The USB 3.1 cable is engineered for high-speed data rates, offering:
- Temperature Range: -65 °C to +200°C
- Flammability: meets the requirements of FAR part 25, Appendix F, Part 1 when tested in accordance with the 60-degree test
- Jacket tensile strength of 2000 psi minimum
- Jacket elongation of 200% minimum

18 Sep 22. Ixblue at DVD Stand C4-215. The IxBlube ADVANS SERIES Based on Fiber-Optic Gyroscope (FOG) technology, the Advans Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) are designed to provide highly accurate positioning and pointing. North-seeking even in GNSS-denied environments, the series covers the needs of the full range of land applications from tactical navigation to high-grade artillery systems. Very compact and adaptable to any communication protocol, they are developed from the same architecture, making them easy to integrate and operate. ITAR-free, the Advans Inertial Navigation Systems have been selected by many integrators and armies worldwide.
The FOG is an extremely high performance rotation sensing device based on the Sagnac Effect. A fibre optic gyroscope uses optical waves propagating in a fibre-optic coil to accurately measure a rotation rate. This apparently simple design takes full advantage of the reciprocity principle in the propagation of light which enables a perfect device to be created from imperfect components. A FOG is therefore a genuine strapdown solid[1]state gyroscope exempted from all physical drawbacks that may affect other existing technologies (vibration, mechanical dither, sealed cavity and mirrors wearing away over time, etc.). This results in unrivalled longevity and reliability as well as very low power consumption and silent operation.
Neil Perriton and the team will be on the stand (C4-215) to help explain current projects already delivered for artillery and vehicle systems all ready in service with UK MOD. Now a preferred supplier to UK MOD especially in the current climate facing UK Forces. The Inertial products have an NSN and now in use with may NATO/European militaries, the future of navigation is here!
The team have recently won the Dragon program in Spain and would like to be considered for the Boxer program in the UK.
