12 June 06. DRS Codem Systems, a unit of DRS Technologies, Inc., introduced the CDF-9200 Series of direction finding (DF) processors and antennas, which provide a low-cost, versatile and high-performance radio frequency (RF) signal location solution for many applications, including surveillance and intelligence, frequency regulatory enforcement, and frequency control and analysis (FCA) for range monitoring, military, maritime patrol, civilian intelligence and commercial functions. DRS’s direction finding systems may be utilized in stand-alone deployments or larger signal collection and location systems. The CDF-9200 Series operates in the HF, VHF and UHF frequency spectrums, with broad frequency coverage between 500 kHz to 3 GHz. There are many standard and optional features that include global positioning system (GPS) for enhanced signal location and mapping. Signal analysis capability includes waterfall and narrowband signal spectral displays and line of bearing (LOB) histograms.

12 Jun 06. Lockheed Martin announced the successful completion of a four-year program to integrate its precision-strike HELLFIRE® II missile system—including the M299 “smart launcher”—with its first international helicopter launch platform, Eurocopter’s Tiger armed reconnaissance helicopter (ARH) for Australia. HELLFIRE scored seven target hits in seven shots in a test series that spanned more than six months, and demonstrated its capability in multiple flight/launch scenarios against different targets. Based on those successes, an eighth planned flight test was canceled by the customer. The series of tests began in May 2005 under the auspices of Australian Aerospace and with the cooperation of Australia’s Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO), the Australian Army, Eurocopter and Sagem (manufacturer of the sight), and the U.S. Army. It was conducted in two phases at Woomera, South Australia, using multiple launch scenarios and various targets to test approaches, ranges, altitudes and speeds, during daylight and nighttime conditions.

07 Jun 06. Lockheed Martin officials said today that they have proposed their in-production short-fuselage variant of the combat tested C-130J for the Joint Cargo Aircraft (JCA) program. JCA requirements call for an aircraft capable of short-field performance, able to transport a payload of 12,000 pounds, and designed to accommodate new technology such as defensive systems and state-of-the-art avionics.

13 Jun 06. SELEX Sensors and Airborne Systems (SELEX S&AS), a Finmeccanica company, is delighted to announce the successful first flight of its latest lightweight radar product known as PicoSAR. Flying on an ASS-355 Twin Squirrel helicopter out of Cumbernauld, in central Scotland, the radar was able to map various urban and rural areas across the country. PicoSAR was operated at various altitudes, ranging from 3,000ft to 9,500ft. SELEX S&AS has specifically developed PicoSAR as a lightweight, compact Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar for small airborne platforms, such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and helicopters. PicoSAR is a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) which provides high resolution ground mapping and ground moving target indication in all weather conditions. This radar builds on existing technologies that have been in development for over 10 years.
